  1. Great thread! It’s not as interesting for those like me that grew up in Minnesota. I will say, though, that for those of us that are old enough that we became mlb ‘aware’ in the 1960’s in Minnesota there WAS a wrinkle: Our parents, aunts/uncles…the generations ahead of us…were NOT necessarily Twins fans, at least in the early years. They had lived adult lives without the Twins existing and had developed loyalties for other clubs in the mid-west…some of whom could be followed by the powerful radio broadcast of the day, even in northern Minnesota. My mom was a Milwaukee Braves fan, my dad, a Tiger’s fan, and my uncle and grandfather, Cardinal fans. They all adopted the Twins eventually…some more ardently than others, but I can absolutely remember watching games on TV where my dad was rooting against me and my team. For us kids, we knew we were Minnesotans…and being able to see them (and only them) play on television at that time, made most of us instant Twins fans. As an aside, the impact of Harmon Killebrew, and how he put Minnesota on the mlb baseball map can not be overstated in terms of how it accelerated the adoption of the franchise as ‘ours’ among the adult population of Minnesota in the 1960’s.
  2. Still...if you're counting on a streaky, barely league-average hitter in Buxton, and two rookies to carry your offense...there's a very good chance your offense isn't going to be consistent, period.
  3. In an extremely sad and frustrating way...yes. Between the two of them, could end up being the difference between 80 and 85 wins, with their 'above-expectation' performances. Maybe just enough to clear the extremely low hurdle to win this division....for whatever that may prove to be worth.
  4. Live with it? EMBRACE it... DH Buxton to preserve replacement-level value at DH and CF; play average (or worse) veterans at all costs; neither sell nor buy at deadlines; tout the pennant 'race' in the ALC, as if it means you're good or a legitimate contender; periodically rearrange deck furniture like hitting and bench coaches... Rocco fits perfectly. Mediocrity is a PROGRAM with this organization.
  5. Balazovic. Showing signs that his fastball may be as easy to hit as his chin.
  6. Been to old Yankee, Wrigley, Fenway, etc…. Really regret having not made it to old Tiger’s stadium. What history!
  7. Game day runs an ad between innings that includes footage of Byron Buxton sprinting through what appears to be an outfield with a baseball glove on his left hand.
  8. To be fair, the results at the major-league level against lefties so far has not been good, despite a couple of important hits. In the minors, the OBP has been fine against lefties, though.
  9. …or, to go to a night game in Detroit?
  10. Well, he had reached base in 7 of 9 PA when Rocco decided to bench him against the back- to-back lefties. Not a believer in momentum, apparently.
  11. Not well at all since the early positive returns in 2021.
  12. Never know when the 3rd outcome is going to show up.
  13. For 2024, throw him in CF (with a better back-up plan than MAT). Or send him to a surgeon. Or see if he'll agree to a buy-out/retirement. Anything but DH.
  14. Time only helps if he spends it playing (against lefties).
  15. Given the team's struggles against lefties, I get not playing Julien. But I wonder if this divisional 'race' is going to be so tight that we can't afford to let Julien play more against them and figure out some adjustments. I'm not wanting to accept already that his ceiling is that of a somewhat better version of Randy Bush.
  16. Is it just me, or does Jenkins swing seem ‘handsy’...a lot of weight forward? Admittedly, I’ve only seen a very few…so. But it seems like there might be (even) more power to unlock there.
  17. wRC+ of 143 since June 9…that’s 2 months of being one of the better all-around corner outfielders in the league. And around wRC+ 108 for the year…something even good teams can live with. Wouldn’t shock me if they try to find a legit right-handed OF bat in the offseason…but it doesn’t appear that it would be that high on the priority list the way things are playing out after the deadline.
  18. Well…yeah. Winning a conceded and terrible division doesn’t mean much, but if they do it convincingly and follow it up with a series win…especially with contributions from an emerging new core…that would be a real step forward.
  19. Simply because winning a really bad division…while not getting really much better than you were the previous season and while sticking with veterans that aren’t going to get better, isn’t much of an accomplishment.
  20. Cleveland has a pretty well established record of doing more with less than the Twins. This seems pretty consistent with that trend, IMO. Takes guts to acknowledge when a race really isn’t a race. Civale will sting…but the Bell move doesn’t make them an ounce worse.
  21. If they win the division and win a game or two, it will be sold as a resoundingly successful season…and more than half of the fan base would swallow that narrative whole.
