  1. Hey…but a dominant series against Oakland out of the brake can turn things around!! (apologies for not knowing how to do the sarcasm font)
  2. Will the FO demonstrate the courage and common sense to sell at the deadline?? If we played in a legitimate division…any division accept this one, there would be no question. Instead, no doubt, we’ll be asked to continue to pretend we’re “competing”…and embrace mediocrity in perpetuity.
  3. Meanwhile, Cleveland has the youngest roster in baseball. The Twins are middle of the pack age-wise and the core aren’t getting any younger (or better). What to do?
  4. But sometimes it too many K’s and sometimes it’s soft contact, and sometimes it’s poor situational hitting and/or failure with RISP, and sometimes it’s rally-killing GiDPs, and sometimes it’s bad baserunning, and frequently it’s a permutation or combination of two or more. I never know how they’re not going to score.
  5. And three of the most disappointing have been high school guys (Stewart and Gordon at 5, and Covaco at 13.) The Twins passed on college bats like Michael Conforto and Tre Turner when they took Gordon. Oops. I agree...pick the talent not the current level. But, the talent can be easier to project for the college guys and, if you hit on one, they arrive a lot sooner. But fwiw, the college bats the Twins would be looking at this year at #5 are a universe removed prospect-wise from Sabato who was taken at the tail end of round 1 (27th) in a draft that was thinner than this year's is supposed to be. IF (and only if) the Twins think Teel is a mlb catcher, I'd be all over him. Otherwise, I'm hoping for Clark.
  6. I’ll actually throw up a bit in my mouth if Gonzalez is the pick. (Which probably increases the odds he’ll be good.)
  7. So….. ALC Champions! LET’S GO!!!!!!
  8. Didn’t blow up. Got hurt on two curve balls. Why? Why? Why?
  9. Not one off-speed pitch in the 10th from Bautista. Because why would you?
  10. 101 mph fastball and 99 mph splitter. But we feel the need to go with the 88mph curve.
  11. Battle of the domination (and large) closers now.
  12. Him or Gordon in 2024? They’re both signed, but which sticks? Maybe neither?
  13. If you can’t be good. Be lucky, Jovani!
  14. Boy, the FO sure seems to have been right on the Castro signing…and me wrong. Probably no more useful than Gordon defensively…which is to say VERY useful…but actually younger than Gordon, showing consistent signs of being near league average offensively, and a switch hitter. Arb eligible.
  15. Regardless…bless her heart for trying. My mother and grandmother were HUGE Twins fans. I’m not at all sure if they would have even tried to engage today’s technology, however.
  16. Unbalanced schedule. 25 of the losses against winning teams came against Braves and Mets, division rivals that were super legitimate and made the Phillies a stronger team. It’s not the same as racking up wins (or losses) against Cleveland. That would be my point. Look, I have no problem with the ‘get there and anything can happen’ view point. That’s fandom, and it’s technically true. I just don’t ascribe to that as a plan. I’d rather see the club take the 2023 opportunity to rebuild/reload and simultaneously compete for a division. This year it’s not an either/or, IMO.
  17. Doing the same for me. Have tried refreshing the connection about a dozen times…still shows zero runs for the Twins.
  18. Look at the division they compete in. Their 87 win last year would be about the equivalent to AT LEAST 95 in the ALC. The ALC central is 6-22 in playoff games since 2016. It’s not an accident, and it’s not going to ‘normalize’ until it starts fielding true contenders. And this year it’s worse than ever. Usually I’d agree that the pitching gives you a punchers chance. But you have to have punchers…and the week division provides a unique chance to sell and accelerate the rebuild…AND still ‘compete’ for a playoff spot.
  19. I’d rather try to build a complete team…one that would have an actual chance in the playoffs.
  20. So…this is the year? Nothing about the offense or the losing record against everyone not the Royals, or the failing and about-to-be-past-their-prime core? Letting Gray walk makes sense to you? And if you DO think this is the year…a left-handed swing-man to maybe spot start for a specific playoff scenario is exactly something this club could use. Playoffs don’t care about regular season averages. They care about today’s game.
  21. We can’t know that he wouldn’t wave it for the right (to him) situation. Maybe, in this theoretical situation where a good team WOULD let him play CF, etc. never say never.
  22. Kep will have SOME value at the deadline. Polanco will have more (his option will not vest). What about Buxton? If (and only if 😉) FO has DECIDED that he’s no longer a center-fielder…ever…they should start shopping him hard now. On the other side of it, does playing Solano at 2nd instead of hoping Polanco returns to form (ever) make us worse in the 2nd half? Does DH’ing Julien instead of Buxton over the next 5+ years make us worse? (Not to mention how that money could be used.). Heck, Kepler’s defense might be the biggest loss among those names with regard to 2023. Admittedly, it would crush 2023 depth. And, of course, the Polanco and Buxton moves could (and most likely would) wait until the offseason. But, fwiw, along with Gray, this is where I’d rather see the FO’s collective heads.
  23. Yeah…I don’t think it makes sense this year, either.
  24. Sonny Gray… To anyone that breaks the bank (relative to rentals). Not interested in buying (rentals). If this division means anything to anyone, it can be won by standing Pat or even selling. Last year Cleveland walked away with it after standing Pat with the youngest team in the majors ( to eventually lose to the Yankees, who got demolished by Houston). We,re a relatively old club and we’re average. Precarious spot to be in. If I thought the Twins were legit, I’d go after Snell (thinking playoff matchups), and Turner for 3B with Lewis moving to CF.
  25. Four….with Pat Dobson. That was in 1971.
