  1. This is the kind of guy you add if you’re a great team on the verge of a pennant run. Just filling a couple small cracks…a veteran spot-starting, pinch-hitting, outfielder. Just no, please.
  2. In 2022 with Buxton playing only 92 games, and a hodgepodge at DH, The DH and CF positions combined for bWAR of 2.4. This season, with Buxton at DH full time and MAT at CF (basically) full time, that number is -0.4. If Buxton was hitting this year at career average (about 110-ish OPS+), the number wouldn’t be that much better…maybe up to zero or 0.1. And that’s with MAT over-performing slightly. Again, this could NOT have been a plan. If it was, it was literally a plan to be worse.
  3. This. A huge opportunity here to figure out how to be legitimately good in 2024….AND still compete (win) a divisional title this year. Just need to act on it.
  4. I get why the Angels FO may have felt the need to do this. But, I still think it’s dumb. Just as many fans will be pisses when they fail to sign Ohtani as would have been if they had traded him. And they overpaid, besides. If it results in them signing Giolito, though…
  5. And what the ____ happened to Yoan Moncada?? Maybe he’s really 38 instead of 28?
  6. That would be fantastic. But, to be fair, Bergman demolished the Texas League the year after he was drafted. Lee hasn’t done that. But he’s been good…very promising!
  7. It’s pretty clear that in Rocco’s mind Buxton has been the one blocking Wallner…not Gallo. It’s been the opening up of the DH at-bats that finally got him here. (Today he rested Kepler). That, and Rocco doesn’t want to give up the delta in defensive flexibility between Wallner (none), and Gallo (a lot). But if Wallner is going to hit,,,and Gallo is not…it can’t be ignored when Buxton (and Polanco) return. As usual, the obvious solve is putting Buxton in center. Then you can part company with Gallo, and take turns picking between Wallner and Julien who you’re going to hide at DH.
  8. Well, the FO probably couldn’t have known how things would develop with his family when they acquired him. But, they’re doing the right thing. And hope and prayers to the family. I DO wish the FO would have known that he’d be bad. Or that Cano would be good. Or that Mahle was damaged goods. Or that Dyson was damaged goods. Or that Spencer Steer was going to be better than Miranda. Or…
  9. I’m so dumb…. I didn’t know Severino was a switch hitter. His right handed splits (this year) are not AS good, but similar, to his left-handed splits…good SLG, OBP…with a ton of K.
  10. But, then again, none of the others have anything close to elite stuff, either.
  11. The bats kind of imploded as well. Very few balls put in play…and the only reason they had the big lead is that early in the game, literally everything they did put in play has a hit, XBH, or HR. Horrible loss in that it was potentially a huge momentum-breaker. Hope not.
  12. Is Lewis coming back? If yes… Will Candelario be free? And will he come with an active roster exemption?
  13. btw, there’s no truth to the rumor that the league tried to take Córdova’s trophy back a couple of years later. None. ok, they might have tried.
  14. True. But my point would be don’t get any more of that type just to add to average-ish depth. Get a needle mover, or don’t bother. Having said that…if you CAN’T count on Thielbar…you have to get another lefty, period.
  15. Pagan only gave up the one hit and retired 3 out of 4… What did I miss?…plus…someone said the would be no math!
  16. Two walks up by 4 with 6 outs to go…harder to forgive than the HR for me.
  17. Seattle is a lot like the Twins, IMO. I like their starters, not as much their bullpen…and their lineup has some guys, but they haven’t produced consistently…and K a lot. I suspect that the 3 game difference in the records could be easily different if they played the same schedules.
  18. I still say this is a don’t buy year…unless you can make a splash. The Twins roster is jamb packed with guys that are ‘decent’ or ‘talented, but inconsistent’. Even St Paul has some. Don’t need any more. You’re keeping Gray, you’re keeping Kepler. Lewis and Polanco are coming back. I like the Idea of a right handed corner outfielder for the postseason. But even that isn’t needed to get there. Meanwhile Thielbar and Stewart should be healthy soon. A real difference maker for the bullpen…sure. But only that.
