Both Jenkins and ERod had 4 PA each against lefties, as well. So, not bad.

Can Luke Keaschall Break Out of His Sophomore Slump?
jkcarew replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Part of the process (I think and hope). Based on his athletic pedigree (elite wrestler), he isn’t going to fail from lack of effort, work, or discipline. Keep writing his name in the lineup. Use a pen. -
CJ Culpepper’s best AA outing. Ideally…given his age due to the seasons ruined by injury…he’d be in AAA soon. It’s been such a struggle to get back to this level. Love to see some momentum building for him.

Bradley had very good results considering he faced much more adversity than in his previous starts. Very encouraging.

But, I literally said the approach is GREAT when you can hit 340-360 with it. But that’s really really hard. Especially now when you face 3 different pitchers a game. Not sure the approach is ideal today for anyone not named Joe Mauer.

Jenkins is starting to remind me of Maurer…but not in a good way. He’s taking 93 mph fastballs on the inside half of the plate and hitting them to left field. That approach is great if you’re hitting 340-360 with it as Maurer was in his prime. But, through 154 AAA plate appearances Jenkins is hitting 233 with 2 home runs. Not saying he’s flaming out as a prospect. He’s 21. Small sample, but it’s been slow going so far at the AAA level for him. Doesn’t seem real close to being a needle mover in the bigs quite yet. Meanwhile, loving ERod’s work on trimming the K-rate. 25% vs 32% last year. Small sample, baby steps. But, in watching him, he really does seem to be trying to tweak the approach. More aggressive earlier in the count.

Twins 13, Red Sox 6: This Team is Hot
jkcarew replied to Matthew Taylor's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
13 runs on 16 base runners. 6 for 7 with RiSP. This is exactly how I saw the lineup performing this season. -
Can This Saints Standout Help The Twins Right Now?
jkcarew replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To me it’s outfield. I don’t think he’s likely to materially improve our situation at 1B. But against lefties in the corner. Yes. The conundrum is do you take him out of an every-day role in AAA to have him platoon (and playing 35% of the time) with the Twins? I’d say yes based on his age…how much more development is there given his age? But, I think they’re in love with Outman’s defense. Unfortunately, probably not going to see Fedko until an IL stint from Larnach or Wallner.- 33 replies

15 total bases in 4 PA is good, right? 411 foot shot in the bid for number 4. Big tip of the hat to Fedko! Very very rare at any level. Raya on the other hand. Sigh. He’s progressively had worse results every year of his professional career. Across the board. Strike %, K%, BB%, OPS against, ERA, pitches per inning…everything. Always being promoted…so, there’s that. Now, he may just need to bake at AAA for an extended period. Keep trotting him out there, though. See what happens with regular work. The command just continues to disappear on a recurring basis.

Twins 8, Blue Jays 2: G4 Ignites a Twins Onslaught
jkcarew replied to Hans Birkeland's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I agree with this. Still, I’d be conflicted watching these over-achieving veterans if any of the prospects were pounding at the door at St Paul. But, they aren’t. It’s still very early. Hopefully when (sadly in all likelihood) some of these guys run out of steam, one or two of the prospects will have heated up and carry some momentum with them to the big club.- 92 replies

Twins 8, Blue Jays 2: G4 Ignites a Twins Onslaught

It’s a rope-a-dope pitching staff we have. Tiring them out running between home plate and 3rd base. Ali would be proud. Working so far.- 92 replies

Buxton today also made the same contribution he himself has in about 95% of his starts this season. You and I have more bWAR than Buxton through 2-and-a-half weeks. Though, I see Buck pulling away from us eventually. If he stays healthy. Not as sure about Outman.- 92 replies

The “absolutely loaded” Saints are absolutely underwhelming so far. Better outing from Matthews…still basically all of his AAA outings last year were better than last night’s. Don’t know what’s going on with him.

3 teams with positive run differential in the American League. Three! And a negative 78 differential for the AL as a whole. 33-52 head to head vs the NL. That’s a .612 clip for the NL! .388 for the AL. Wow! You could notice the trend scoreboard-watching, but when I look at the numbers it’s even worse. Horrific showing by the AL so far. Man, maybe the Twins CAN ‘compete’ in the AL this year.

I’m guessing NOT what Tigers players or fans thought the outcomes would be of back-to-back Skubal and Valdez starts against the Minnesota Twins. And definitely not what I thought the outcomes would be. Baseball.

I would separate a players personal character from how he approaches his profession…certainly for the most part. There’s nothing morally ‘wrong’ with wanting the comfortable or ‘known’, I don’t think. It’s his professional legacy I’m talking about. It’s a very short profession, and one where the ultimate reward and objective is to contribute to a championship (and he and his family have no connections that will keep them in Minnesota permanently regardless). The time is now for him. I would expect him to be putting more pressure on the org to win or be moved. Maybe he is behind the scenes. We’ll know for sure at least by next offseason.

Not sure the baserunning hasn’t given up more outs than the defense. It will be exciting to see which proves to be worse over the coarse of the season.

Bailey Ober Is Reinventing Himself in Real Time
jkcarew replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I’ve noticed the velocity of his changeup (which he loves to throw) has NOT declined in velocity along with the fastball. Seems the delta in velocity of those two pitches is very narrow. I’d think the number one thing you’d want to do if your fastball is weakening…improve the changeup (or whatever your go-to offspeed pitch is) in terms of deception and control. I don’t see that. At least yet.
