  1. I don't understand why Buxton can't play CF but he is doing nothing as a DH. Some players get more into the game when they are also on the field. His swing looks terrible with a noticeable uppercut and he doesn't swing at hittable pitches. Though it pains to see a 5 tool player sit, that has to happen at this time. Just don't make the mistake of trading him- at least not now. It's best to trade a player when he is going good- not bad. And if he is injured, he should be on the IL. Even if we can get him back in late August, he can perhaps be a force down the stretch. As for Julien and Wallner, let's see how they do over a longer run.
  2. Look. I will always agree that the players are the ones that can make a manager better or worse. But a manager has to take the heat when a team isn't playing well. That's where Rocco has to take the heat. I feel the team needs a shakeup- even after these 2 wins- and firing the manager and hitting coach seemed plausible. Get rid of Gallo? Well, he does lead the team in Home Runs. Dump Kepler? Well he is just about the best outfielder out there (with a possible exception of Michael A Taylor). I bet the over at the start of the season and still think this team can win 84 games- especially if the starting pitching keeps going well and we get Polanco back for the second half.
  3. My team is Kirby CF, Oliva RF, Carew 2B, Jones LF, Kaat P, Rollins 3B, Morneau 1B, Smalley SS, Reardon RP, Harper C and Winfield DH. The only possible change I would consider id Killebrew at first and switching others around but I'll skip that. It's a tough task but Kirby, Oliva and Carew are the best at their positions by far and Kaat is my favorite all-time Twins pitcher. Thanks for the fun. Now on to APBA baseball to see which team wins.
  4. It's nice to have these options plus maybe the Twins have some players they can deal for something better if we are to make a run for the Central division and beyond. Right now we have to get and stay healthy since Polanco and Buxton have been missing. We'll see what Miranda does offensively over the next few weeks and go from there but we can't just write him off as our offense has been spotty at best.
  5. I'd rather they bring up some AAA hitters than trade anyone. We don't have much to offer right now.
  6. Don't we have anyone at AAA who can hit? Whatever happened to Miranda? He can't be any worse than these guys. We weren't terrible today but even when we try to build a run, we fail as Correa pops out. Teams go through that and it is a long season and we are VERY lucky to be in the AL Central. To me though, the biggest problem is we keep having guys getting hurt and maybe also playing hurt. That will kill an offense. We've proven that we can hold the best teams down (at least now) but we are even more feeble than Cleveland right now. Let's get some hitters up from AAA who can hit. Trades? What do we have that can bring something in return? I don't see anything and we can't break up the rotation or the bullpen.
  7. I don't see what was wrong with Miranda at 1B. I would have thought that Abreau would have been a great signing and have to believe that he is currently injured though playing. He is a much better hitter than he currently shows and is an RBI machine. Solano is ok but maybe not a long term answer. Maybe if Lewis is called up, someone like Polanco can move to 1B. The overall hitting by this team is below what we expect from Buxton and Correa and needs to get better if we are to stave off Cleveland again.
  8. Framing is important but not as important as blocking pitches or throwing out runners (though much depends on the pitcher as well). If we ever go to automated balls/strikes calling (a possibility soon with all the home plate umps have to do now), framing may not mean much. I wonder how umpire's calls are actually influenced by framing since they are supposed to call balls and strikes as the pitches cross home plate. We had a former umpire give a speech here a couple of years ago and he said framing may have influenced about 10% of his calls.
  9. To me, last year fell apart in early August when the Guardians got hot and we got tired or ???. We could have been closer in the division race but weren't going to win without beating Cleveland who killed us down the stretch.
  10. The leadoff batter has changed somewhat in that some teams use a power hitter while others use an on base hitter. We have several choices but none are great though Buxton would be my choice right now. I like Gordon but am not sure he can hit enough. Gallo is a waste anywhere he bats. Kepler will be ok but leadoff???. Lewis would be great when he gets better. Most others are a big question mark. Let's just keep winning.
  11. I would trade Pagan for a bag of (used) balls but maybe we can get a low A player for him.
  12. I thought Archer could help as a long reliever for 3-4 innings in a game. Bundy could help a team looking for pitching depth. Sanchez improved his catching a bit and gets streaky but not consistently enough. He could be a DH for someone vs left handed pitching. Sano needs to get healthy, wasn't a terrible 3B or 1B at times (IMHO) but costs too much. However, the problem for each of these is that they would take away a roster spot from a better player or prospect. Thus, unless a team has a bunch of injuries, I would doubt any of them- except maybe Bundy- will see the major leagues for any decent period of time this season.
  13. Maybe just what we need..... a Season Of The Witch.
  14. Don't need both Solano and Farmer. You cannot win with fringe players even though both are versatile. Solano seems better than Farmer and maybe will bump him off the roster. Can't see dropping Larnach. Definitely don't drop a pitcher. But let's see how Spring Training pans out with injuries or a trade (2 of ours for 1 of theirs who can help).
  15. Ober could be a #3 or #4 starter for this team as Maeda and Mahle have to prove themselves after injuries. I'm not sure why so many think Gallo is such an answer. He's good defensively and hits homers but is a hole in the lineup. I'd keep Kepler and sign Fullmer. Still, it's a long way to the start of the season and we'll see. Reynolds would be a nice addition but I'd rather trade prospects that proven big leaguers right now. You don't really know how prospects will turn out. And I can't agree that we would trade starters at the deadline if we are in contention.
  16. I often review many of the old Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins players that I rooted for over the years (I'm giving my age away) and wonder whatever happened to them after baseball and even if they are still alive. Thanks for the review.
  17. While I wouldn't trade Polanco, I can see them trading Kepler (but I wouldn't) though I think he will benefit with the end of the shift. Much depends on what they can/will get for Max. I like him since I am also Jewish so I hope that, if he is traded, that it's to the Yankees.
  18. We need bullpen arms and Barnes could help.
  19. I'd rather have Gordon than Taylor. Taylor has experience but isn't any better than what we already have and takes a spot away from a youngster who should get ML experience. He doesn't hurt us except in that way. As for Celestino, I'm not confident that he will get much better though I like his hustle.
  20. I thought he did a decent job and could give good innings. Hopefully he will make the majors with Miami but don't expect him to start unless injuries come up.
  21. Comparing a proven major league hitter to a AA ballplayer (who doesn't hit much) is Ludacris. Why was this article even printed?
  22. I have no confidence in the Twins front office. Trading a hitter of Arraez caliber for a pitcher is a mistake. There was no reason why Luis couldn't be a DH if his fielding is "that" bad. So now we have a DH who hits below the Mendoza line and strikes out half the time. I would have felt better about the deal if the Twins would have gotten a reliever included in the deal. Our bullpen is our weakness right now (though the offense did take a hit) and now there is talk of trading Kepler- who will be helped with no shift anymore- and for what? We can have 10 starters but they won't pitch more than 6 innings. So, with a weakened offense scoring fewer runs, the added burden falls on the bullpen. Yikes! I am growing more concerned about the Twins ability to win more than half their games in 2023. But I'll wait for now before making any predictions.
  23. I'm amazed that nobody mentioned Arraez who is the heart of this team. If he can come close to last season, the offense- even with Gallo striking out 200+ times- should be fine. Also, Polanco will be here all season and he is a big contributor. While I'm not high on Lewis, he has shown flashes of being a solid major leaguer when he is healthy. If Kirilloff can stay healthy and Buxton the same, we'll be very good. Let's see if Miranda is real going forward. The starters are good enough and the bullpen is the big question. I'd say we can win 86-87 games. The Guardians added some much needed pop but only were good for 2 months of last season. The White Sox are a big question mark though I expect them to be better. Having an old, out of touch, manager plus injuries hurt them last year. The Tigers will be better and KC probably won't. So we are right in it. The thing that may hurt us is we don't play as many in our division as in the past. But there are other patsys to beat up on.
  24. This is a clear sign of what is wrong with baseball and salaries. Nobody ever gets a cut in pay. Gallo has been awful for 2 years and Conforto didn't even play last year. It's sickening to see players who do not get what they should because teams are just plain stupid and throw money around like they are printing it and then charge us to pay for it. Yuck!
  25. I'm surprised the Twins didn't get Taylor Rogers back but another failure on management's part. Fullmer would be good and we still have a couple like Lopez who could bounce back. I wouldn't count on Thielbar continuing to get hitters out. The league is catching up to him and I don't expect him to continue his late career success. I'm not sure about Hand or Smith though I like Smith more. Britton could be a good answer if he is healthy as his stuff is nasty. Moore had a breakout season but who knows. Reyes might help but I'm not sure about any others. What about our closer of the future? The time is now.
