    I would say extend for 3 years at 40 million with a 15 million option year.

    Had Sano been healthy all season, he would have been the MVP. I would lean toward Santana slightly over Mauer this year with Dozier third over Buxton and Rosario or Kinzler fifth. Buxton is most improved and gets the defensive nod as well. Just my opinion.

    Molly is pulling his pitchers very quickly. The bullpen is going to have to carry that weight the rest of the season.

    I also had a birthday just before yours and the Twins didn't reward me with a win. However, I hope we can get those Yankees back when we meet in the wildcard game.

    Gee would make the most sense to start Sunday. However, I don't think Santiago is THAT bad. He may have been pitching injured a few times before going on the DL. At least he is way better than the guy we traded for him.

    Glad to see the Twins bouncing back into wild card contention. Hope it can continue. Each game ahead is winnable except when Boyd pitches for Detroit. We can't seem to beat that sucker.

    The Twins did what they had to do by trading two players they could lose after the season. If they wish to trade Dozier (a mistake) and Santana (not sure about this), the off-season would bring them more of what they need. Funny that neither trade brought in any offense which is what they need. They are (close to) last in runs scored, nobody knows how to move runners over and they are horrible with runners in scoring position.

    I predicted 73 wins for the Twins because I figured they weren't nearly as bad as last year. They have not been very good since mid-June but I wonder about their lineup. They have several .240-260 hitters with limited power and yet have a power hitter (Vargas) going back and forth to the minors. Also, Granite comes up and they bat him second for awhile- not where you want to put a rookie. The relievers are again overworked but, when they do pitch a scoreless inning, they immediately get taken out. I don't know much about what is coming up but there is a big difference between the minors and majors. I guess we'll hope to continue to improve.

    Sadly, I think it's time for the Twins to become sellers. While this team has done very well so far (compared to what was expected), we are not yet a contender for future years. However, I hope they do not trade Dozier or Santana (though he won't be as good as the first half) unless they can get quality that they can control. I do not like trading for prospects who, in reality, are suspects. I do not think this really makes a team better. However, I understand the need to trade those who will become free agents after this year to get some future quality. Kinzler seems most likely to go. I would not give up completely on Santiago. He started well but then faltered then got hurt. I also think it's way too early to give up on Gibson who is younger. We need another starter and 2 more decent hitters plus 2 middle relief guys if Pressley cannot get better.

    Gee can't hurt if he is healthy. Wilk was horrible as a Met with no fastball. I could not understand that pickup at all. Don't know much about the others they've tried. Feliz could help in the middle if he gets his mojo back. For a few bucks, he could be worth a shot. What we have right now is not getting the job done a majority of the time. At least management is trying to do something rather than sitting on their hands. I agree with not rushing the kids but giving them some exposure in September if we are out of it. The future still looks good.

    I expected the Twins to win 78 games this year and am sticking with that. Fortunately, the AL Central stinks overall and thus we have been able to grab first place for awhile. The biggest problem is their horrible inconsistent middle relief. They should probably dump half or most of them and get a few others. Belisle has been the worst. However, Molly doesn't let someone pitch more than an inning when he gets 3 outs without being scored on. He brings in someone else who gets bombed. Another concern is that we have several .250ish hitters with minimal (10-15 home run) power. Which ones do we keep is a big question. If I were the GM, I would NOT trade Dozier or Santana but would see if I can trade Mauer for some value. Joe deserves to play on a pennant contender in his final years and maybe we can get something good for him though we may have to pay some of his salary. You build through the draft and we are trying to do that. I am not a fan of teams that are "sellers" at the deadline. They rarely ever really get better and usually trade off their best assets.
