  1. Ok. My bad. So 3 years at $65 mil.
  2. I don't care about those comparisons. I say give him 3 years at $45 mil
  3. Let Darvish go to the Cubs or even the Yanks. I'd rather have Arrieta or (mostly) Archer (though we would have to trade for him).
  4. I got to know Thome when he played in Kinston (Carolina League). He was mainly a third baseman at the time but played a bit of first and DH. He was a class act then and throughout his career. I am glad he was able to play for the Twins near the end. I don't see how the scouts did not feel he could hit.
  5. A very good deal. I still think Hughes can help and they need to get something out of him with that big salary. I don't like the Duke signing but we will see. Maybe Duffy can do well in long relief like he did this year. I don't see them keeping both Granite and Adrianza on the ML roster as both are weak on power numbers. One more starter should do it.
  6. You have got to be kidding! I liked Duke when he first came up but he has never been successful yet has lasted a long time- probably because he is a lefty. The only thing this signing does is cost the team a roster spot for a young prospect. Why can't Rogers do what Duke is proposed to do? And now I read they may be going after Napoli. Yuck! Bring back Park instead. It's the same difference. Maybe these signings would make sense if someone gets hurt but I can't see it helping at all.
  7. To me it doesn't take much to build a very good bullpen. It is harder to manage that bullpen so you know when to use them and you don't burn them out. If a major league pitcher cannot consistently throw 1 inning without giving up a run, he doesn't belong in the league. The strikeout has caused teams like the Yankees to be thought of as having a "super" bullpen. However, getting people out is most important. Had the Twins been able to bring Kintzler back to complement Rodney, that would have been great. Pressley is the one guy who has been an enigma. He should be very, very good but is not as yet. Hopefully 2018 will be his breakout year.
  8. Like I said in another post, grow your fingernails over the winter because you will be biting them often when Rodney pitches in the ninth. He should, however , save 38 games but will blow 6 saves in 2018 if healthy. Pineda is a good signing but may not pitch until mid-season. The big ballpark should help him. I'm not as big on Darvish as maybe some other starters and hope we don't over pay for a guy who is over rated.
  9. I thought someone like Cichek or even getting Kinsler back would be better but Rodney is a good one. However, he will make several 9th innings very interesting. I hope everyone grows their nails over the winter because you will be biting them next summer. Rodney should notch 38 saves with 6 blown saves if he is healthy all year. I guess Perkins is finally through.
  10. They lost out on Petit who has been very good though not a closer. Reed is a possibility. I cannot find a list of all free agents anywhere- just the "top" ones. Getting Kinzler back could help as well. I don't buy getting Nicasio. Wade Davis might be too expensive. Looks like Grienke might be going to the Rangers.
  11. Our history shows that a Twins playoff team comes along for about 3 years then goes into hibernation for several years before returning. Thus we should make hay while the sun shines and trade for Cole or Archer and sign a good free agent. I don't think we will win Darvish nor do I think we should trade the entire farm but prospects do not always pan out. Proven commodities are best. And I still believe we need a top closer. After all, do you trust who we have at this point?
  12. Why didn't we get a pitcher or two? I'm not impressed with either of these two though they are still babies.
  13. Prospects/Suspects- Call them what you will. Sometimes you have to take a chance and either trade 1-2 or put 1-2 in the rotation. I still say we will get something out of Hughes this season. I also wonder if Gibson turned the corner. We would not have made the playoffs without his contribution. Are there any free agents we can afford? How much would Fiers cost?
  14. My guess is that Santana will get about 40% of the votes. I do not see him being placed in the same category by the voters as some of the pitchers coming up for election. I also do not buy the argument that he was as good as Koufax in his prime. He was very good and should be on the ballot for many years but I will be surprised if he ever gets more than 60% of the votes. We'll see.
  15. Ok. Are we the Twins of 2016 or 2017? Or somewhere in between? Is Buxton going to continue to improve? Will Sano bounce back? Is Berrios a possible #1 (I don't believe in #1,#2, etc stuff)? How much of the farm do we mortgage and for what? Cole and Odorizzi are not lights out pitchers but are as good as what we have at this point after Santana and Berrios. I would keep as many of our prospects as we can and see where we are in 2018. I hope we can repeat or better 2017 but the jury is out on that one. Let's see. And let's get a good closer.
  16. Wait! Do we want to become the (crippled) Yankees? If Hughes is healthy, couldn't he be as good as Lackey? Someone mentioned Melky Cabrerra. He would be a better addition. I'll wait til the free agent listing comes out before posting anymore about free agents. Sano can be an occasional RH DH if needed. Whatever happened to Park?
  17. I wouldn't even have Francona on this list. I'd put Joe Gerardi on it. I think Molitor should win because of expectations. The over/under on the Twins this year was 73. They went wayyyyy over that and continued on even after they lost their big gun. Neither they nor the Yankees were expected to make the playoffs and both did. Hinch is a very good manager and will probably win because his team won the division and had the best record. So Paulie should win but AJ will win.
  18. The problem with all these extensions is that you are talking about basically unproven products. Dozier is a proven product. Buxton, Sano and Berrios are not. I say give them at least the start of another year before you start tossing around 8-10-12 million a year numbers. We need to spend some money on a very good starter and maybe a closer. We could also use a better DH though a platoon may be in the works with Vargas and Grossman. While it would be great to keep this group together for 5-10 years, let's make sure they are all the real deal.
  19. I can see expansion but they had better keep the Twins out of the same division as the Yankees are in. That would be a disaster for this franchise. Oh, it may help attendance for home games vs the Yanks but I do not think they would get a good chance to compete with the big money Yanks (not to mention the Mets and Boston as well). Hopefully they can keep us in a Central division with teams like Cleveland, both Chicagos, Detroit and St Louis and Pittsburgh. Maybe put Philly in that North division. If they keep the American and National Leagues, then have 2 divisions of 8 teams each with 8 teams in each league making the playoffs and reduce the regular season to end in mid-September then start the playoffs with best of 5 series.
  20. I would say extend for 3 years at 40 million with a 15 million option year.
  21. Had Sano been healthy all season, he would have been the MVP. I would lean toward Santana slightly over Mauer this year with Dozier third over Buxton and Rosario or Kinzler fifth. Buxton is most improved and gets the defensive nod as well. Just my opinion.
  22. Molly is pulling his pitchers very quickly. The bullpen is going to have to carry that weight the rest of the season.
  23. I also had a birthday just before yours and the Twins didn't reward me with a win. However, I hope we can get those Yankees back when we meet in the wildcard game.
  24. Gee would make the most sense to start Sunday. However, I don't think Santiago is THAT bad. He may have been pitching injured a few times before going on the DL. At least he is way better than the guy we traded for him.
  25. Glad to see the Twins bouncing back into wild card contention. Hope it can continue. Each game ahead is winnable except when Boyd pitches for Detroit. We can't seem to beat that sucker.
