  1. Well if baseball would adopt my rule that a batter can only have 2 fouls after two strikes, you would have starters going deeper and games going faster. There are several 8-10+ pitch at bats which greatly increase the number of pitches thrown per inning and game. I also feel that, at least for this year with very few days off-especially in the post-season, you can't have a starter go very far because you will need him again soon. However, during a normal season there is no reason to have a starter throw less than 90 pitches unless they are getting hammered. Pitchers today aren't as good as pitchers in the past because they don't vary the game plan and thus can't get through a lineup the third time. And several hitters know how to spoil many 2 strike pitches to prolong the at bat.
  2. Why should we go after injured players? Can we get a real medical report that will show he is worth the risk? Otherwise, we'll just have another mid-high priced player watching from who knows where. As for trading Rosey for him or anybody? That's a no-no in my book.
  3. Stroman has always been highly touted but has never lived up to it. He can be a good pitcher if healthy but we should not overpay for him. If we can get him for 7-8 million per year for 3 years and he is healthy, I'd be ok with that. However, it is a gamble.
  4. If we lose all our players, I would sign Tony Watson for relief and Jurickson Profar as a utility infielder. I'd sign Brandon Workman or Shane Greene as a closer backup to Rogers who could bounce back. I might take a flyer on Brad Peacock if he is healthy or Julio Teheran but would not want to overpay for either. I'd try to bring back Hill and Odo. After that, I'd still try to trade Sano to the NL for a good starter and a prospect. A 100-110 million dollar payroll is feasible.
  5. With the offense the Twins have when healthy, they can afford less offense from the catching position. I would keep all 3 if Avila is willing to take less than 2 million (I don't see another team paying him even that much). Garver will bounce back to a .280, 20 home run season in 120 games and Jeffers can fill in for 25 games. Avila is a good catcher, an insurance policy, experience for the younger players and a left handed bat against the tougher righties. All is dependent on health and whether there is a full season.
  6. How anyone could vote Buxton over either Maeda or Cruz makes me wonder what team they were watching. Basically it's a tossup between them. I thought Cruz would be the league MVP before he got hurt. Maeda could have won 8 games if he's have gotten support. For third, I would lean towards Duffy or Rosario. Duffy kept us in many games or kept the leads. Rosario had several key hits during the season. And Jeffers saved the catching position and handled pitchers well so he should get my 5th place vote.
  7. I think they should keep Marwin but can also see them moving on depending on the numbers. Cabrera might be the best of those you named while Iglesias has turned on the offense recently but probably will not want a backup role.
  8. My votes are for Maeda first, Duffy second and Berrios third. However, I would have put Rich Hill second if he would have pitched more as he was very effective when in there. Romo saved the bullpen for awhile when Rogers went south and deserves a mention. Wisler and Alcala were also good.
  9. I would vote for Thielbar first, Rosario second because of his better approach to hitting and Wisler third with a mention of Jake Cave who had some key hits early in the season and played better defense all year.
  10. I can agree with Jeffers as ROY but would put Alcala second and Dobnak third. All have a good future. I hope Randy can bounce back but it will depend on how many starters we keep and/or bring in. I think the team gave up on him too soon. Usually when a starter has trouble, you have him pitch in relief for awhile but I don't think that happened. We'll see Sorry this was repeated but I never saw the first note go thru
  11. I can agree with Jeffers as ROY but would put Alcala second and Dobnak third. However, all have a good future. I hope Randy can bounce back next year (I think the team may have given up on him too soon) but a lot will depend on how many of our starters we keep and/or bring in. It used to be when a starter had troubles, a team would use him in relief for a bit but I don't think that happened with Randy.
  12. No! No! No! I have said it before that we should not sign Bauer. I don't believe he would fit in or would be good in the clubhouse because of his "do my own thing" way of life and pitching. Yes, he is a good pitcher and a good competitor but I just don't think he would fit in. Add to that he will be way too expensive. This guy is NOT Koufax or Gibson or even Cole or Kershaw. I am not even sold that he will win the Cy Young over Darvish or DeGrom but he probably will.
  13. I would rather keep Eddie as well and have said so. I'd rather get rid of Sano. But the Twins have to get Kiriloff in the lineup next year so one of the outfielders may have to go, become a DH or get benched. Of course, we would be lefty heavy out there so somebody will have to sit vs a southpaw. I guess we'll see how it plays out.
  14. Can Buxton learn to play first base? All chronically injured players are of concern. I guess I am more concerned over Donaldson because of his age and contract. Have we wasted precious money? Most of Buxton's injuries have come from his tremendous hustle and athleticism. Maybe moving him to first could help him stay on the field more. Or just let him DH (especially if we lose Cruz). Arraez could become an elite hitter if he is healthy. If Polanco needs surgery, get it to him now rather than wait.
  15. I have to laugh at some of these posts. get rid of the Bomba Squad name? C'mon now. First of all, you could not count on Garver because he had never done what he did in 2019 and he was hurt. Next, the manager made mistakes, yes- to me the biggest was not pinch hitting for the catcher with 2 on after he had looked terrible in all at bats- but the players have to execute. When a guy like Kepler or Sano takes a pitch down the middle then swings at something well out of the strike zone, you have to shake your head. Finally, seeing Romo throw a fastball out of the strike zone when his best pitch is a slider they can't hit was disgusting. The manager, like the umpire, doesn't lose games though he may win a game or two. And now you want to trade Rosario who may be the best all around healthy ballplayer we have? C'mon now guys and gals.
  16. As good as Bauer seems to be, I somehow feel he would be a poison in the clubhouse and he plays by his own rules. Why does Marvin have to go? He is very valuable with all the positions he plays and he can hit a little. Hill should be brought back for a year. Give Cruz 2 years if that's what it takes. Keep Rosario but get rid of Sano for a starter and maybe a hitter. I'm not crazy about Lewis and would rather have Polanco or Iglesias. Retool the middle relievers with power arms and get a closer if Rogers doesn't bounce back (I think he can). And please teach these hitters how to make better contact, beat the shift and move runners. It also would be nice (as I said before) to get a little more speed. See y'all next year.
  17. If I were the GM I would look for some speed, a closer and I would definitely trade Sano to the NL. I like him and he made a nice transition to first but he's no different than Dave Kingman- maybe worse. Rogers may bounce back but has been leaving too many pitches up. We were out managed and out played by a Houston team that I thought we could beat. We are now like the Cubs before they won the WS in that if anything can go wrong in the post season, it will. Since they look at all these crazy analytics, how about getting some hitters who do not swing at pitches out of the strike zone. Kepler is decent but he took too many down the middle pitches and swung at junk- as did most of the players. If only we would not have swung at so many pitches out of the strike zone we'd be moving on. Just a bit of re-tooling is needed.
  18. The Reds series has been one I have been fearing so I hope the Cubs can handle the Chisox. The problem is we don't need to go from the frying pan (Yankees) to the fire (Indians). Both those teams might be the best in the AL today. I hope we win the division and play Houston or Toronto (preferably Houston) in round 1 but we'll see. Anyway, the season starts Tuesday.
  19. I've said before that I'm more worried about our bullpen rather than our starters. I don't care which order the starters go but would NOT put Berrios in the number 3 position because that is the game for all the marbles if it goes that far. I guess if I were the manager, I'd go with Berrios first, Maeda second and Pineda third. However, in game one I wouldn't go too far with Berrios if he is off and bring in Rich Hill. I'm guessing that Odo will not be 100% so count on long relief from him as well which might not be so bad. However, we won't win unless the bullpen gets straight- especially whoever closes.
  20. Well we are in again but it looks like we will play the Yankees again. The Yankees are getting healthy and will be dangerous and they have our number. Maybe we can get lucky and Toronto will sweep them this week but I doubt it. Hopefully we can have the home field edge to at least get last licks but I was hopeful that we won't have to meet them in round one.
  21. Cruz is the league's MVP this year. It might have been Judge but he's out. Trout is the best player but not in my definition of most valuable.
  22. This division is already the best in baseball from top to bottom. With the free fall of the Yankees, there could be 4 teams to make the playoffs if the Tigers can get back to winning. We will have to do lots of work to continue to be the top team.
  23. Rosario is too good a hitter to just get rid of for nothing. Perhaps he can be traded in the off-season for what we may need (closer, starter, catcher) but to just let him walk would be foolish. As far as the prospects, without actually giving them major league exposure, I would be suspect of them equalling his performance. Why they don't bring these guys up- even for 1 game of a double-header is a mystery to me. But what do I know. With yesterday's lineup, I didn't think the Twins could score more than a run or 2 and look what happened.
  24. Looks like we did nothing. Bradley to Reds. Marte to Miami. Lynn not traded. Chirinos to Mets. Maybe we are better off???
  25. Marte and Hader are the class of what is left. Bradley is possible if they no longer want to use Rogers. Lynn might go to the Yankees but would be a good addition. I wish we knew if and when Buxton and Garver were coming back. Donaldson might come back on Labor Day. Buxton however, stays hurt and it may be time to move on from him. There was even a rumor of Bogarts coming to us. DO NOT trade for Gallo. He's exactly like Sano and we don't need any more of those. Yaztremski would be interesting. Where are our prospects? Why aren't they being played at all? Are they that bad? The "not ready" is baloney. Let's get going. The time is NOW. And home field should not be the excuse because there are no fans anyway. Only getting last licks is the advantage. Damn- They should have never let Schoop go as I had said before.
