  1. I see Duran and Ober in the Twins future. We'll see about Balazovic.
  2. My favorite all time Twin
  3. Well they won't be coming to NC but maybe in the future. I'll have to follow them through league news and the milb site. I'm sure there will be a shuttle service between the Saints and the Twins as COVID is sure to affect both teams at some point.
  4. I'm looking for a higher average from Buxton and about 30 steals. I don't think he'll hit that many home runs and hope he can play 130-35 games. I'm worried about Pineda. He was great last September but he has never had that good a streak. I would be surprised if Sano hits higher than .250 but he could hit 45 home runs if he doesn't get benched. My bigger X-factors would be Garver, Rogers and Cruz as of right now. Garver and Rogers have to bounce back and Cruz has to keep chugging.
  5. We can guess all we want but, until we see the ball in games, we won't know. Sure Garver can't be expected to hit 30 homers and Polanco isn't more than a 15 homer guy in a normal season. You really can't compare anything to 2019 which was an anomaly for the team. Looks like Paxton is back with Seattle, the Yanks signed Jay Bruce- smart move, Arrieta to the Cubs (who knows if he can bounce back) and Matt Harvey gets another shot (why not). I think Hill has also been signed. Nothing on Odo or Homer Bailey. More to come this week.
  6. I haven't seen the minor league setup but am now hoping that St Paul will get to play in Durham so I can see some future Twins. I'm not sure what the Twins are doing by signing players like Garlick. He doesn't seem to be of major league caliber and should not have taken a player's spot in the first place. As for Hamilton, he has stuff but hasn't had success with it. Maybe he'll get through though teams have wanted him in the recent past. Bird made a splash at first then faded fast. Maybe he can find his swing again. Meloncin is a great signing for the Pods but they still may not have enough to catch LA.
  7. I'm a bit concerned about privacy as they ask a lot during registration but hope to give it a try.
  8. I'm surprised that noone signed Kintzler before. He doesn't strike out everyone but he is a proven reliever with save experience. A good signing by the Phils. KC and the Angels are my surprise picks in the AL to move up and contend. The Royals need for their young, talented staff to come through. Not signing Odo would be a mistake if the Twins pass on him. At least see if he'll take a deal with incentives. If healthy, he will win. I hope we sign him but, if not, at least get another starter if Hill hasn't signed yet. I'd love Paxton but he's out of our price range.
  9. Dobnack should be the 5th starter but let's see what Ober can do. I'm not high on Robles but hope he can revert back to pre-2020. I think we are ok with Colombe and Rogers sharing closing duties switching between the 8th and 9th innings depending on who comes up. Hopefully we will have several one-sided games to give these guys a break. I like Thielbar but think 2020 was a (good) fluke for him. Now let's get spring training started (or at least scheduled right).
  10. I'd trade Polanco and Lewis and maybe one other prospect for Gonsolin and Lux in a heartbeat. I wouldn't touch Price who has a bad history in the post-season and costs way too much. The Dodgers are no longer high on May but his lack of strikeouts with his stuff has to be a concern. Throw him in and we'll throw in another prospect (but not Kiriloff or Laurich).
  11. Price will likely be traded- maybe to the Yankees. Bauer is one guy I never cared for at all. He is a good pitcher who had a great year last season and has capitalized. However, I don't think he'll be nearly as good this year. Plus he seems to be a head case with his own beliefs and may run into difficulties with teammates and/or management. However, the Dodgers are definitely favorites to win it all.
  12. Wade wasn't going anywhere with the Twins but Anderson does nothing for me. The White Sox are a better team right now but, if we add Paxton or Odo, we are right with them.
  13. Don't know much about Tortuga, whom everyone doesn't like, but this guy seems to have some potential for a minor helper. Not enough big league innings to say if he'd be any good but he's still young.
  14. So now the Twins have lost Rosario and Schoop among others in the past 2 years. Both are serviceable players who have not yet been adequately replaced. We'll see about Kiriloff who I think will do well. Foltnywitz would be a gamble but was good in 2018. An Arenado trade would have been great but the front office won't give up Lewis and Sano for him. Hopefully Eddie won't come back to haunt us.
  15. You do not trade someone who has hit .300 at every level - period. Would the Twins have ever traded Tony Oliva? Just the thought of trading Arraez is stupid at this point.
  16. It will be interesting to see what Avila does as he joins another former Twins catcher to go to the Nats. The other (Suzuki) had very good success. We'll see. I hope Jeffers can do the job.
  17. I never could understand why Hall Of Fame candidates are on the ballot for so long. If they don't make it after 3 years on the ballot, they should be gone. After all, they don't get any better. I would still put Bonds and Clemens and even Sosa in the Hall. I also would have voted for Helton and Sheffield. How they can leave Helton off with his stats is a mystery to me. But I would set minimum standards for automatic entry into the Hall and dump much of the writer's voting if I were in charge. However many are held out because of their character which has increased in importance in recent years. That's why Visquel is out.
  18. I am not a fan of Lewis so I'll take Kiriloff but I'm willing to give Lewis a shot. However, I would trade Lewis for an established star that I can control for at least 2 years or pitcher like Castillo
  19. While he wasn't my first choice, it's a good signing but I wish they would have gotten him for 2 years. I'm not at all high on Lewis nor do I like the idea of Arreaz moving around so much but so be it. We don't need his offense though he won't strike out like Sano or others. His defense is almost as good as landing a 5th starter as he will help the pitchers a lot.
  20. In NC there is also a problem with hockey telecasts. I have DirecTV and sometimes get a break in the over-charges they have. You gotta keep calling. I generally follow my teams until the second half of the season then can subscribe to the Extra Innings package and get all Twins games except vs Baltimore and Washington (we have both MASN channels). However, this year- without leaving the house much due to COVID (yes, it will continue into June at least then return in the fall), I will probably pay for the full season for all teams (didn't know you could do just 1 team but the full season is only about $150). But radio (not available that I know) would bring me back to the days of sneaking a transistor under my pillow as a kid.
  21. I can't understand why everyone seems to be giving up on Cruz. He was the ONLY Twin to get more than 1 hit in the playoffs and the only one to get an extra base hit. So much for the second half slump. Over 162 (or whatever) games, he can be rested enough to be fresher in the last half. I don't know his stats in the last half of the '19 season but he did ok in the loss to the Yankees. We need pitching more than anything and that should be the focus. If the NL decides to have the DH, Cruz may become too expensive but that will come later.
  22. Arraez should be a lock at 2B. I would not count on Thielbar or Stashak as bullpen locks. Thielbar had his good season and Stashak is a question mark. Polanco is a lock somewhere but it could be at SS or maybe DH. Kirilloff should be a lock but the team won't play him at first to save a year of control. Hopefully Dhuran can help at SP or we can re-sign Odorizzi (and Hill if still available). Pitching is most important. The more I look at Simmons, the more I like the possibility. And am also hoping for Cruz. With hockey starting this week, I'm excited. Let's get going.
  23. In Lynn's defense, he never had a Spring Training when we had him and only rarely got into a decent pitching rhythm when on our team. The Mets clearly got the best of the Lindor trade but time will tell after 2-3 years. Don't count the Royals out as they have some good young pitchers. They aren't ready to challenge the Twins or White Sox but could make some noise. Detroit's chances hinge on whether they can resign Schoop and/or Cron (who may be hurt) and whether Hinch can attract some players as he is the best manager in the Central. We are lucky right now to be in perhaps the easiest division.
  24. I can't really consider most prospects to be on this list. My feeling about prospects has always been that, if they are valuable, they should be up in the majors. Of course, there are some who are of value and should not be traded so could be considered. My list would be 1- Maeda 2- Berrios 3- Buxton 4-Donaldson 5- Arreaz 6- Kirilloff (the lone minor leaguer in the top 10) 7- Duffy 8- Kepler (not really as valuable as some have him) 9- Alcala 10- Rogers (our only proven closer). Garver would be just outside this list as would Larnach and Dhuran. I would have included Cruz at #3 and Odorizzi at #6 and back everyone else up if they were on the team. Just my opinion.
  25. If I were to choose 3 players, I would choose Maeda, Garver and Rogers. Maeda was great in 2020 but now the league knows more about him so it is imperative that he maintains his high level of success. It may help that the West and East teams have not seen him. Garver was a bust last year and needs to bounce back to decency to settle the catching position. Rogers was less than what we need at the closer position and, if we don't get Hand or Colombe, will be counted on to bounce back. Right behind them would be Sano (if he is still here) and Donaldson to stay healthy.
