  1. Being in a minor league city, the word we got was the minors were starting late because of the COVID pandemic which was going to cause major league teams to call up players and also to keep minor league players safe. Also, the callups were not supposed to count against the major league teams (whatever that means). I don't know what a minor leaguer has to prove before getting the callup. First year minor leaguers may have to learn to be away from home and adjust to playing almost every night. Otherwise, who knows why one player gets the call and another doesn't.
  2. Regardless of Baldelli's decisions, the players need to make the plays. Arraez' throw was the worst I have ever seen on a routine play for a third baseman. Even my little league third baseman makes better throws than that.
  3. When teams are hot, they find ways to win. When teams are not, they find ways to lose. That's about all you can say about that game. I'll bet both Blankenhorn and Arraez make those plays 24 out of every 25 times. However, the Twins are cold right now so both blow the play. At least the offense finally came alive. Let's hope things turn around quickly. What I will never agree with is letting a relief pitcher not pitch a second inning after shutting out a team in their first (only) inning. Both Dobnack and Duffy did that today then were gone. Doesn't make sense to me and never will.
  4. Like I said before, let's see where things are on Memorial Day. Trouble is, we may be paying tribute to the dead Twins chances. Every team is going to go through slumps and, for now, the COVID thing. However, right now it doesn't even look like we have anything on the farm that could help. Too bad Lewis is gone for the year. Maybe he could help. Maybe we could trade for Baddoo except he is something like 2 for 30 after the hot start. If I were Baldelli, I would fine anyone who does not move a runner along and anyone who strikes out with men on base. Light a fire under some butts to get things going.
  5. The season will continue to be affected by COVID ragardless of vaccinations. The closeness of players, etc and no mask wearing in dugouts can still spread the disease which is rising in numbers right now- albeit mostly among younger people who have not yet been vaccinated. We will be eventually finished with this (mostly) but not in 2021. And then comes the boosters...... Hey. With the way we've been playing, maybe this will be a welcome break.
  6. As I said in another thread, things get overblown either way at the start of any season. I expect things to settle down to normal or close to it soon. Even the mighty (?) Yankees can't hit and can't win ballgames right now. Let's see where things are closer to Memorial Day. And let's see who is still on this team (and running it (?)).
  7. The entire bullpen, from long relief to the closer, is a big mess right now. We can't even expect Berrios and Maeda to win games if they blow all leads or allow the opposition to extend their lead. Cave and Sano are a mess though at least Sano will hit a bomber once in a week. This division winner is quickly turning into an also-ran. However, it's a long season and I expect them to straighten things out (at least I hope). Things are always overblown either way at the start of the season. This team is like the Yankees right now. They aren't hitting either though their bullpen has been just a bit better and they've had some injury problems..
  8. great to see Rodon get that no-no. He pitched at NC State so I got to see him a few times. He's had health issues but can be very good if he stays healthy.
  9. Things are not going well so far and the losses are against teams that we should be beating (though the Red Sox are hot right now). As far as a batting order, I'd bat Arraez leadoff followed by Polanco, Buxton, Cruz in the cleanup spot with Donaldson fifth. After that it becomes a crapshoot since Sano is not hitting anything. However, I guess you have to bat Kepler sixth, Sano seventh followed by the catcher and Simmonds Against lefties, maybe hit Garlick for Kepler if the lefty is a tough one. Let's hope this funk doesn't continue much longer cause tougher teams are coming.
  10. If i were a fan who came from miles away to see the game and it got cancelled at the last minute, I would be very angry. As it happened, all Minnesota games in all sports were cancelled yesterday. And at least 1 player (Aaron Hicks) did not play for his team. But is this going to happen in every city every time someone gets killed? I don't think that most fans would like this at all. I know that Yankee fans are screaming at Hicks for not playing. A friend of mine who lives in St Paul says that the police in Brooklyn Center have a bad reputation because of some of the population who came from somewhere else (Liberia) to live there.. I just don't know. I hope this country gets it's act straightened out. This just cannot go on.
  11. We have a few good hitters at the start and very good starters. I can't understand continuously going to Colombe but think he will do better if he is used more infrequently. I never liked a closer who pitches to the bat like he does. Rogers and Robles can do the job in the right situation. Robles should have been given a second inning yesterday (IMHO). Most pitchers are ahead of most hitters and things always look great when you start fast or lousy when you start slow. Now we face a hot hitting Boston team so we'll se where it goes. Sano is a waste right now but has no trade value until he starts hitting. Polanco will straighten himself out. I'd rather play Garver more regularly than Jeffers at this early stage.
  12. Blame Rogers if you may. Blame the manager for batting Polanco leadoff and pinch hitting Austudillo and not bunting if you may. The fact is that we left 13 men on base and you don't win ballgames leaving 13 men on base- period.
  13. If I was Rogers and this team was weaker, I might want a trade. Is Rocco afraid to use him in the 9th? He has been the best reliever so far. It doesn't do much for his confidence in the manager. Fortunately this didn't blow up in Rocco's face.
  14. Good to see Garver swing the bat well. Some, like Austudillo are off to good starts but will come back to earth. The troubling thing is all those injuries, not only with us but all around the league. It's almost like asking "who's next?". Scary! I hope Dobnack straightens himself out.
  15. Some may be upset at Rocko yanking Berrios but a no hitter with many pitches thrown can hurt a pitcher more than help. So the question is if a pitcher has a no hitter through 7 innings and has thrown 100 pitches, do you keep him in or pull him? Remember that today's philosophy- for better or worse- is to not let the pitch count get too high. This isn't the 1960s anymore.
  16. KC has good offense while Detroit has some pitchers that will make big noise in the next 2-3 years. Good to see Sano go opposite field and lay off the 2 strike curves breaking away. If we can keep the overall strikeouts down, the offense will be great. Nice to see Kepler off to a good offensive start. Surprised they are going with Shoe vs Dobnack but we'll see how the long run plays out. GO TWINS.
  17. Gotta love baseball and everyone on this list. There were (and always are) several reasons for the Twins losing the game. You could even say that, if Maeda would have had an easier third, he'd have pitched into the 7th and maybe it would have been easier on everyone. Let's move on and go get-em today and move forward. GO TWINS.
  18. I picked the Yanks, Twins and Angels with the White Sox and Astros as wild cards and the White Sox to go to the World Series. In the NL, I picked the Phillies, Brewers and Dodgers with the Padres and Braves to make the wild card and the Dodgers to get to the series. The Dodgers will beat the White Sox in the series. The Twins will win their first series vs the Angels but lose to the White Sox in the next series. At least it's an improvement.
  19. Against National League teams I would put Sano at 3B and play Cruz at 1B. Against American League teams, I'm fine with Arraez at third and Cave or Garlick in the outfield. If Josh goes on the IL, it makes the most sense to bring up either Kiriloff or Rooker.
  20. I blame the catcher on the ball Colombe threw to second. It's the catcher's job to yell out "first base" on that type of play. Still, Colombe should have known better. If he takes the out, we win the game. But he didn't. And out 2 best contact hitters couldn't make contact against the best reliever in the game. Oh well, it's only 1 game.
  21. The game yesterday was not what the Twins can do. The defense let us down, they didn't hit well with men in scoring position and Colombe was awful. HOWEVER, the worst play and the play that cost us the game was the failure of THE CATCHER to yell out "first base" on the slow roller that Colombe threw to second base in the 9th inning. If he throws to first, we win the game- period. I still like Rogers in the 9th and no one else but that may not happen. We'll see. It's only 1 game. Oh, and the Donaldson signing may wind up as the worst in Twins history if this keeps up.
  22. I always make predictions on April Fools Day because you have to be a fool to try to make predictions. So here goes. The Twins will finish first by 5 games with a 95-67 record. The Yanks and Angels will win the other divisions with the White Sox and Astros in the Wild Card. The Twins will win the series against the Angels but lose to the White Sox who will go on to play (and lose) in the World Series vs the Dodgers. The Phillies, Brewers and Dodgers will win their divisions with the Braves and Padres as wild card teams. Individuals stats for the Twins include: Berrios-16-9, Dobnack 12-7, Happ 12-10, Maeda- 19-7, Pineda- 14-10, Shoe- 8-9, Rogers 26 saves, Colome- 22 saves, Robles- 11 saves, Duffy- 41 holds, Garver-.274, 22 HR, 70 RBI, Jeffers-.256, 11 HR, 36 RBI, Austudillo- .241, 4 hr, 18 rbi, Arraez- .292, 4 HR, 93 runs scored, Donaldson- .260, 26 HR, 69 RBI, Polanco- .266, 11 HR, 48 RBI, Sano- .257, 36 HR, 91 RBI, Simmons- .248, 5 HR, 40 RBI, Buxton- .283, 24 HR, 81 RBI, Cave- .241, 7 HR, 27 RBI, Kepler- .240, 25 HR, 71 RBI, Cruz- .283, 33 HR, 87 RBI, Garlick- .265, 9 HR, 30 RBI, Kirilloff- .278, 7 HR, 29 RBI Kepler (as much as I love him) will lose his starting position during the season. So there you have it. If you throw any food at me, make it lemon merengue pie. Thanks
  23. Celestino has been very impressive to me and could be a big surprise.
  24. Baseball being the business that it is makes it difficult to justify the Twins keeping Kiriloff in the majors at the start. The entire control rule is stupid to begin with. So it will be Cave and either Rooker or Broxton to start. What some are saying about Kiriloff sounds like when I lived in NY and every CF was the next coming of Mantle. I hope he will be a solid ballplayer but it's a big reach to think he will be like Yelich. And Cave improved greatly on defense last year and even won a couple of games at the beginning of the season. Either way, we will miss Eddie's offense for at least this year.
  25. If we can get him for 6 years at 100 million, I would jump at the chance. The same with Buxton though Bux may cost a bit more 120 million. A more realistic figure may be 120 mil for him and 140 for Bux. Forget the "ace" talk. Berrios is our ace or co-ace with Maeda. He is worth every penny. How many pitchers out there are actually better than Berrios? Maybe a dozen and none of them are usually available or would sign with us. Just my opinion.
