  1. With the offense we have behind him, I expect Bailey to win 12-14 games this year for us. He is a serviceable pitcher who knows how to get hitters out.
  2. I like this signing. I'd like a Harvey signing as well. However, this is the difference between a winning team and a rebuilding team. If we were rebuilding, guys like Thorpe and Dobnak would be the starters. However, we are a winner and you have to try to trust a more experienced pitcher who has had success to get the job done. We have had top pitching prospects before (most recently Gonsalves) who have never made it. Thus we have to take the chance that a guy like chacin can bounce back. There really is no big cost here- at this point.
  3. If his command is good, he should be a starter. In baseball today, anything goes. So whatever works should be used. Start a soft tosser and bring in a hard thrower. Start a lefty and bring in a righty. Anything is possible and has been done before. He, and others, also will need high drama situations to get them ready for any post-season experience when every pitch is high drama.
  4. While I can agree that Berrios and especially Buxton need to move ahead in their careers and Buxton needs to stay on the field, I feel it is more important that players like Garver, Arraez and Rogers come close to what they did in 2019. They each had breakout seasons that they never had before and need to come close to that in 2020- especially Garver. A recession is expected but hopefully not a big one.
  5. How can you possibly think Seager is any better than Sano? It would be stupid to trade for him. Donaldson had a great year but is overpaid and could regress but might be worth a shot. But don't bet the farm that we will spend the money to get him.
  6. Ok. Let's now sign Hellickson, Teheran and a lefty starter and Betances for the pen. Don't trade Cave because we need a backup plan for Buxton and his injuries. I would have loved Bumgarner but figured he would stay in the NL. Ryu is the last hope for a solid lefty but he may go elsewhere. The Indians weren't going to be dumb enough to trade Kluber to a Central team. The Phillies keep signing high priced free agents and haven't won anything yet. I'll bet we win more games than they do. The Dodgers and Yankees also spend tons of money but recently haven't won the World Series. As far as coming to Minnesota, I wouldn't know about that though we have friends there are they love it. Personally, I would not live in that extreme cold but if I were a ballplayer it might not matter. Give me 10 million and I'll be on the next plane.
  7. While I would love to have Bumgarner, I was never expecting it to happen. I'd say Rich Hill would be a nice lefty compliment though he is up there in age. I don't like Keichel at all. Ryu is good but injury prone. Teheran, Percello and Wacha would be my other choices from this list but they are all righties. Let's hope that we already have an ace in Berrios who could have a very big 2020. However, we also need to have a healthy Buxton and a good year from Sano. I for one, like Rosario though I don't know what he was trying to do against the Yankees. He was swinging wildly.
  8. The Twins need to see who returns from their starters first. What is wrong with Dyson? He was damaged goods but can be an effective reliever. Gallo is an all or nothing guy that isn't worth much so I can see Texas moving him or Rosario (if they get him) to DH. Oakland and Arizona seem to be the best possible places after Texas. However, I would not trade him. We don't even know how our offense will look next year and it cannot equal this year. So Eddie had a slightly less year while others had a better year. I see both going in opposite directions- Eddie improving while others (like Garver) slipping. I just didn't like Eddie's approach against the Yankees since it looked like he was swinging wildly. Maybe he was feeling too much pressure.
  9. All pitchers mentioned could help but I don't think the tigers will trade Boyd and especially not to the Twins. Maybe we can get both from Colorado for Sano (though we would have to give up another player) who could hit 60 homers in the thin air.
  10. Castro would be the logical choice but the other free agent catchers can all hit in case Garver falters offensively. Castro makes the pitchers better so I hope they can keep him. I wouldn't trade unless we don't give up much. We may need to trade for pitching.
  11. I am not sold on Lewis just yet. The only 3B I would shoot for is Bryant or maybe Escobar. I agree with others that pitching- especially starting pitching- is our biggest concern. I always thought that Sano was a decent, if not even good, 3B. The stats pointed out are only for this season. What about over his career? How about getting good pitching and telling them not to let hitters hit to 3B (ha,ha). Better yet, how about trading our team for the Yankees then playing them in the playoffs. Maybe we'll finally win.
  12. If the Twins really need pitching, then signing Cole would be a mistake as he would gobble up most of what we have to spend. I'd rather have 3, 15 game winners than one 18 game winner and 2, 8-10 game winners. They need to re-sign Odorizzi and Gibson and look at some mid-priced starters and relievers. The scouting is where we need to make the best decisions on which starters will work at Target field and win 15 games with the lineup we should have. I don't know if there is anyone in our minor league system that will help here and am not sold on a guy like Dobnick. Don't expect 300 homers again but maybe 240 or so and get fewer strikeouts though I think we reduced those this year.
  13. I would think that Cleveland will still be the favorite in the division by a hair next year. The Twins will be second choice with the White Sox third. Lots depends on what the roster will look like come April and I suspect there will be 5-7 new players. After all the talk of prospects, Arraez comes almost out of nowhere as does Littell. In the post season, We simply did not hit and getting bases loaded with no outs and not scoring in Game 3 was the story of the series. Then the Yankees score with 2 outs and we're cooked. Thankfully our division is weak at this point but we need better pitching (or at least healthy pitching) and to stay away from the Yankees to go further.
  14. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. We simply did not hit. My biggest concern was the lineup. Arraez should have batted leadoff and Kepler down in the lineup. As far as Odorizzi, I would have used him in Game 1 or 2 but he had to pitch somewhere anyway so maybe the strategy of waiting til Target field was a wise move. The lack of use of our 3 best relievers was puzzling as well. Finally, we should have had a bodyguard on Pineda to stop him from taking something that would get him suspended.
  15. You can't say they are making calls to favor the Yanks. They have gotten healthy while we have gotten stupid (Pineda) and injured. The hotter and healthier team wins but making poor pitches to a guy who hadn't played in a month (Encarnacion) in game 1 and starting a rookie with 3 games of experience (game 2) is not a formula for winning- no matter how good or bad we hit. Now bat Arraz leadoff and let's get this party started tonight.
  16. My take is that the rotation for this series was messed up from the get-go. Berrios and Odorizzi should have started games 1 and 2. I also believe that, as bad as he may have been, Perez should have been on the roster. There is no substitute for experience. Also, depending on how the first 2 games would have gone would determine who starts game 3. While I hope we can win tonight and maybe even tomorrow if Berrios can pitch on short rest, I don't see us winning a game 5 if it gets that far. I also did not believe that our bullpen was better than the Yankees bullpen going in though both closers were close to equal. I don't blame Rocco with his decisions though it looks bad with what he has chosen. I would probably have picked May in game 1 and who knows in game 2 as noone was used to that situation (maybe Perez to face Didi). I hope we can get the lead tonight and Odo can hold down the fort. GO TWINS!
  17. Is Baldelli's name "Baldy" or Baldybean"? I like Gonzo, Caveman and The Doof plus Lefty piece (but I'm a lefty). I guess "DOOF is my favorite because a guy has to have guts to put that on his uni. Great that Kepler honored his dad when he could have put "Kosher Kid" on instead.
  18. Our offense is on fire but our pitching is also great right now. The offense will slow down- especially when we reach the post-season. However, you can never have enough pitching. I don't believe in Gonsalves and think he should be our biggest chip for Will Smith or Doolittle (whom we need). Then we have to be careful that we don't lose both Gibby and Odorizzi though neither is a #1. I'm not sold on Gordon either but some guys who are hot now (like Arraez) may not sustain it. What bothers me is that Rochester has no pitcher ready for the majors and, after seeing them last weekend, they do not look very good. At least the next few months will be interesting.
  19. May and Romero (along with Mejia) can be very good starters for 5 innings but then they break down. This puts loads of pressure on the bullpen. Thus, they can all be used either as short starters or long (middle) relievers. My biggest problem is the manager taking a relief pitcher out after pitching a solid inning. You use up your bullpen that way and they eventually become tired and ineffective. That has happened to us over the past years. I like Astudillo as a super sub type guy who can lead off for us.
  20. I don't see any real downside. Yes, people are comparing him to Morrison who was a bust (perhaps because of injury). We don't have much power on this team so his 18-23 home runs and (hopefully) .250+ batting average would be welcome. Maybe he could be trade bait. I'd now like to see the Twins get Brantley, Torreys (the Yanks let him go) and a couple of starters. Plus give Reed a shot at closing or use Rogers or Moya. We still have major question marks with Sano and Buxton so signing Cron isn't a bad move.
  21. I think Adams would be the same as Morrison and would rather keep morrison if he is healthy. I hope Mauer returns for 1 more year. He deserves an end of career tour and average wise was better than most that we have. Escobar would be nice as would Moustakas. I wonder if the Yankees will be giving up on Greg Bird who could be had cheap in a trade. There are many 30+ something free agents out there. The front office had better do their homework if they try to sign any. They had better be healthy. We don't need Iglesias though his defense can't hurt. Spend the money elsewhere- like pitching.
  22. Addison Russell on the Cubs might be available in trade and he would top my wish list if the Twins' minor league depth in pitching would be of interest. Russell is suspended pending wife beating charges. I don't think anyone will touch him.
  23. The infield a mess? Are you kidding? That's the best part of this team. We need starters (2) that we can count on. We need relievers (2) that we can count on. We need an outfielder or two who can hit the damn ball. If anything, we have too many infielders but most of them are decent. Not great (but who is) but decent. I expect Sano to bounce back with 25-30 homers. I think Buxton can catch anything near him and throw anyone out. But can he hit- even with all that speed. The other outfielders are mediocre at best and you need offense from your outfielders. We need a DH (unless Mauer comes back). I think they should try Moya as the closer. Or maybe even Mejia. Gonsalves? Not for me- and I'm a lefty.
  24. I give the front office a C-. I do not fault them for the deals - though I thought they should have kept Pressley and Escobar (and maybe Lynn)- but I don't believe we have received what we could have in return. I see other teams that have traded less for more than we received. Just my opinion.
  25. Joe has been a fine player for us. He was great early in his career and is good today. Unless he is blocking someone from playing up here, he should be brought back for another year or two IF he wants to play. Personally, I hope he stays with the Twins or goes to the Yankees if he stays in baseball.
