  1. I hope Arraez continues to hit as he has throughout his career. I liked Schoop and hated to see him go. We seem in the best shape at second with several who can play that position. Just don't hand everything over to Arraez just yet. Let him proove he can do it over time.
  2. I hate to say it but i was not for signing Donaldson and still am not sold that this was the right thing to do. I would have rather them spend the money on 1 or 2 top pitchers. That being said, I would not worry about him getting hurt but would immediately move Sano over if he had to miss several games.
  3. This is a key year for Eddie and the Twins. If guys come back to last year's offense (Garver), Eddie could be traded. If some young guys (Kiriloff) and Cave do well, he could be let go. I like Eddie and thin he really shows he cares. But somebody may have to go as salaries begin to jump. Management likes him and you don't need the best defense in left field- just be adequate. So we'll see.
  4. Buxton is a great center fielder who hits well but is inconsistent. You don't know what offense you will get but when you get it, it should be great. Staying healthy is the key
  5. I love Kepler but his durability to stay as our right fielder will be tied to his ability to hit lefties. He seems to have learned how and I hope that will continue. I don't see him as a leadoff man but he does have better protection there than batting 6th or 7th.
  6. It's always fun to believe what might happen. I can see Arraez hitting about .280 and Buxton (if he even plays) hitting .225 (always a slow starter) and maybe Rosario with 6-7 home runs. Bailey at 4-0 seems a big stretch but Maeda could be 4-1. No way the Yankees are leading the East early with all those injuries and the Dodgers may be 22-5 but that's just me. I have picked the Cubs and Yankees to meet in the WS for now. My guess is the season will start on May 1 with a 148 game schedule. That makes the most sense to me. Early games may have no fans til June 1. Let's just hope this Covid-19 is a one time thing and that no different strain comes up later.
  7. Thanks for the info. I always look at the draft as a crapshoot after the first 3 rounds. Baseball is one of the very few sports where players seemingly need to go through 2-4 years in the minors before getting their chance in the majors. That leaves players to having a very good year that could be followed by a not so good year or maybe vice-versa. Even high rated prospects can drop off the table in a year or two or the reverse can happen. Kiriloff looks ready to play in the majors. I'm not sold on Lewis.
  8. Thanks for the report. While I am not familiar with most of these names, it will be interesting to see how many get to Minn in 2021 and 2022.
  9. Let's just hope that he doesn't get caught up in the home run craziness like Rosario and that he keeps his nice swing. He could be a lifetime .300 hitter- a la Pete Rose and Rod Carew.
  10. With the offense we have behind him, I expect Bailey to win 12-14 games this year for us. He is a serviceable pitcher who knows how to get hitters out.
  11. I like this signing. I'd like a Harvey signing as well. However, this is the difference between a winning team and a rebuilding team. If we were rebuilding, guys like Thorpe and Dobnak would be the starters. However, we are a winner and you have to try to trust a more experienced pitcher who has had success to get the job done. We have had top pitching prospects before (most recently Gonsalves) who have never made it. Thus we have to take the chance that a guy like chacin can bounce back. There really is no big cost here- at this point.
  12. If his command is good, he should be a starter. In baseball today, anything goes. So whatever works should be used. Start a soft tosser and bring in a hard thrower. Start a lefty and bring in a righty. Anything is possible and has been done before. He, and others, also will need high drama situations to get them ready for any post-season experience when every pitch is high drama.
  13. While I can agree that Berrios and especially Buxton need to move ahead in their careers and Buxton needs to stay on the field, I feel it is more important that players like Garver, Arraez and Rogers come close to what they did in 2019. They each had breakout seasons that they never had before and need to come close to that in 2020- especially Garver. A recession is expected but hopefully not a big one.
  14. How can you possibly think Seager is any better than Sano? It would be stupid to trade for him. Donaldson had a great year but is overpaid and could regress but might be worth a shot. But don't bet the farm that we will spend the money to get him.
  15. Ok. Let's now sign Hellickson, Teheran and a lefty starter and Betances for the pen. Don't trade Cave because we need a backup plan for Buxton and his injuries. I would have loved Bumgarner but figured he would stay in the NL. Ryu is the last hope for a solid lefty but he may go elsewhere. The Indians weren't going to be dumb enough to trade Kluber to a Central team. The Phillies keep signing high priced free agents and haven't won anything yet. I'll bet we win more games than they do. The Dodgers and Yankees also spend tons of money but recently haven't won the World Series. As far as coming to Minnesota, I wouldn't know about that though we have friends there are they love it. Personally, I would not live in that extreme cold but if I were a ballplayer it might not matter. Give me 10 million and I'll be on the next plane.
  16. While I would love to have Bumgarner, I was never expecting it to happen. I'd say Rich Hill would be a nice lefty compliment though he is up there in age. I don't like Keichel at all. Ryu is good but injury prone. Teheran, Percello and Wacha would be my other choices from this list but they are all righties. Let's hope that we already have an ace in Berrios who could have a very big 2020. However, we also need to have a healthy Buxton and a good year from Sano. I for one, like Rosario though I don't know what he was trying to do against the Yankees. He was swinging wildly.
  17. The Twins need to see who returns from their starters first. What is wrong with Dyson? He was damaged goods but can be an effective reliever. Gallo is an all or nothing guy that isn't worth much so I can see Texas moving him or Rosario (if they get him) to DH. Oakland and Arizona seem to be the best possible places after Texas. However, I would not trade him. We don't even know how our offense will look next year and it cannot equal this year. So Eddie had a slightly less year while others had a better year. I see both going in opposite directions- Eddie improving while others (like Garver) slipping. I just didn't like Eddie's approach against the Yankees since it looked like he was swinging wildly. Maybe he was feeling too much pressure.
  18. All pitchers mentioned could help but I don't think the tigers will trade Boyd and especially not to the Twins. Maybe we can get both from Colorado for Sano (though we would have to give up another player) who could hit 60 homers in the thin air.
  19. Castro would be the logical choice but the other free agent catchers can all hit in case Garver falters offensively. Castro makes the pitchers better so I hope they can keep him. I wouldn't trade unless we don't give up much. We may need to trade for pitching.
  20. I am not sold on Lewis just yet. The only 3B I would shoot for is Bryant or maybe Escobar. I agree with others that pitching- especially starting pitching- is our biggest concern. I always thought that Sano was a decent, if not even good, 3B. The stats pointed out are only for this season. What about over his career? How about getting good pitching and telling them not to let hitters hit to 3B (ha,ha). Better yet, how about trading our team for the Yankees then playing them in the playoffs. Maybe we'll finally win.
  21. If the Twins really need pitching, then signing Cole would be a mistake as he would gobble up most of what we have to spend. I'd rather have 3, 15 game winners than one 18 game winner and 2, 8-10 game winners. They need to re-sign Odorizzi and Gibson and look at some mid-priced starters and relievers. The scouting is where we need to make the best decisions on which starters will work at Target field and win 15 games with the lineup we should have. I don't know if there is anyone in our minor league system that will help here and am not sold on a guy like Dobnick. Don't expect 300 homers again but maybe 240 or so and get fewer strikeouts though I think we reduced those this year.
  22. I would think that Cleveland will still be the favorite in the division by a hair next year. The Twins will be second choice with the White Sox third. Lots depends on what the roster will look like come April and I suspect there will be 5-7 new players. After all the talk of prospects, Arraez comes almost out of nowhere as does Littell. In the post season, We simply did not hit and getting bases loaded with no outs and not scoring in Game 3 was the story of the series. Then the Yankees score with 2 outs and we're cooked. Thankfully our division is weak at this point but we need better pitching (or at least healthy pitching) and to stay away from the Yankees to go further.
  23. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. We simply did not hit. My biggest concern was the lineup. Arraez should have batted leadoff and Kepler down in the lineup. As far as Odorizzi, I would have used him in Game 1 or 2 but he had to pitch somewhere anyway so maybe the strategy of waiting til Target field was a wise move. The lack of use of our 3 best relievers was puzzling as well. Finally, we should have had a bodyguard on Pineda to stop him from taking something that would get him suspended.
  24. You can't say they are making calls to favor the Yanks. They have gotten healthy while we have gotten stupid (Pineda) and injured. The hotter and healthier team wins but making poor pitches to a guy who hadn't played in a month (Encarnacion) in game 1 and starting a rookie with 3 games of experience (game 2) is not a formula for winning- no matter how good or bad we hit. Now bat Arraz leadoff and let's get this party started tonight.
