  1. 1- 15 seconds between pitches with noone on base. 20 seconds with a man on 2- Have a designated runner (only 1 player who cannot bat during the game) that can be used once an inning. 3- Allow managers to change their lineup in the ninth inning (only) if they desire. Example- If the 7,8 and 9 hitters are do up, the manager can choose to start with the #3 hitter then go on from there. 4- Allow catchers to block the plate on throws home. 5- Put the DH in both leagues. 6- Stop the nonsense of position players pitching in blowouts. The last bullpen pitcher needs the work and experience. 7- Change the balk rule (actually eliminate it) to allow pitchers to do anything.
  2. Dobnack should have been out of the 5th inning with no runs and maybe could have given up only 1 or 2 runs in the 7th but the Twins weren't going to win this game with no hitting. It may have been a closer game which may have changed some strategy. The time to trade Sano has passed. We might have gotten something while he was hitting but now we will get nothing. We'll be sellers at the deadline but I hope the core can remain. This team is not all that horrible.
  3. Though everyone gets super excited about speed of pitches, I would be more concerned about command and movement. Speed for a starter can only lead to arm problems. I'd be more concerned that he can put the ball where he wants to consistently and that his pitches move.
  4. A nice start after a minor league stint. Let's hope he can keep it going. As for Shoe, I'm not a big fan but he can give us 3-4 good innings of long relief when needed. Hey, we took a flyer that he could return to a decent form and he has pitched ok for 3-4 innings before imploding in each start. He's not going to be a top starter anyway. As for Happ, he's done what was expected- 3-4 good starts and 2-3 not so good. A 10-10 season at best is about all we could have expected. Maeda and Berrios are bigger disappointments at this point based on what we expected.
  5. Funny article. Thanks. But the Twins are cursed because they started going super long ball in 2019 and forgot what has been winning for them up til then. Plus they have lost some key components in the past 2 years and their replacements have not lived up to snuff except for Maeda who has slipped somewhat this year (probably back to a more normal pace for him). I guess we all somewhat over-rated the team because of what happened last year and the fact that we are fans of the team and we play in a relatively weak division.
  6. Older folks follow most rules more than younger people do. just look at who wears masks when they are supposed to vs not, etc., etc. As for the Mercedes incident, he should be fined by his team for not obeying the sign and shout from his coach and manager. Otherwise, anything goes. So what is worse, the fact that someone hits a 3-0 pitch for a homer off a position player, the fact that someone tries to beat out a bunt in the ninth inning of a no-hitter, the fact that someone steal a base when his team is winning a blowout or something else? Play the game and stop complaining. And I'm an old person (by comparison) and have played ball all my life.
  7. Sano has been much better during the past few games and capped it off with his big night. So NOW is the time to trade him. We won't get more value than right now and, if we wait, we may only wind up with a bag of (used) baseballs. As for Duffy throwing at Mercedes intentionally, ANY major league pitcher who throws a pitch behind a batter is throwing at him intentionally. Their control cannot be that bad- even for just 1 pitch. But Duffy was standing up for his team and that (unfortunately) is a part of baseball. As far as him hitting the home run, too bad, so sad. That's his job- to smack the ball- no matter who is pitching. It would have been worse had he bunted. That would have been bush.
  8. Hard to say but right now it depends on what teams would be looking for. Look, we are only less than 2 months from being a division winner. Are you going to break up the team? And we are only 8 games out of a wild card though we have to pass too many teams to get there. I would say that Kepler (to the Yankees or Mets), Rogers and Donaldson and Cruz are the ones with the highest value who are likely to get traded and would bring back decent returns. You could even throw Colume in the mix since he has experience as a closer. But I'm not quite ready to break up the team looking at next year.
  9. Right now our biggest trade chip might be Kepler. The Yankees may be looking for a center fielder if Hicks needs surgery and they also need a lefty hitter with power. The question is- what can we get from them? That will determine if Kepler gets traded. Otherwise, all free agents after the season are in play and Cruz is definitely in play for the best return if traded to a playoff team needing a DH. I don't know if Garver is a free agent after this season but, if he is not, I would never trade him. Simmonds can maybe be signed for 3 years fairly cheap and could be an important piece going forward as you gotta have a good shortstop. Keep the 3 main starters together if you can. Don't trade Pineda as he has been consistently good for us.
  10. Guys with command issues generally will not make it in the majors. Cano seems to be the best bet to try. there doesn't seem to be much available around the league but this disaster of a season is a team effort- not just the bullpen blowup.
  11. I agree that Greene should have been signed. He is a proven closer who could maybe have helped. But I also believe that Alcala should be given more of a role, that Dobnack should be brought up to start and have Shoemaker pitch long relief, that Sano should be put on waivers and, if anyone claims him, maybe we can trade him to them for something-anything. I don't think he would be claimed at this point. Rogers should be the closer but we hardly have a lead in the ninth anymore. We have 3 weeks til Memorial Day when we can then play taps on the season. It doesn't look good- especially with Bux and Arraez out- but stranger things have happened. Keep toying with the lineup and move Donaldson into the cleanup spot. After all, that's why we signed him- isn't it?
  12. OMG. Now the minor league bullpens are stinking it up
  13. I did see a play on reply that he should have challenged but didn't but can't remember which it was.
  14. Well they have now driven nail #1 (of 3) into the coffin of this season by losing 3 of 4 to a team that is no better than a .500 team and while at home. At this rate, nails #2 and 3 will be driven into the coffin by Memorial Day- just 3 weeks away. Some want to fast forward to 2022 but lots of changes will have to be made and Cruz will be gone. Right now things look bleak and the farm doesn't appear to have much help- especially in the pitching department. I still hope they can turn things around but I'm getting more pessimistic every day. Yes, you can blame the bullpen because that is how it looks but the offense isn't much better. If Turtle leads this team in offensive categories, we are in trouble (sorry Turtle).
  15. Since I am a fan of Rogers, I'd deal for a righty first. All four seem good but are they just hot right now? I don't see why this team doesn't give Alcala a shot at closing. Yesterday's game was lost due to a lack of hitting in the clutch. Maybe trade for a clutch hitter??? I'm not quite ready to gut this team but it is disappointing so far. And the injuries don't help but other teams also have injuries.
  16. I wish they would stop the BS about exit velocity. Much of that comes from the pitcher anyway. A sports group that I zoom with was talking about how boring baseball has become and all the wasted stats that cause many good hitters to swing for the fences, strike out way more than they need to, and fail to do the little things anymore by trying to hit over a shift. We also exchanged ideas about how to make baseball exciting- pitch clock, move the mound back, have a designated runner and eliminate the shift among other ideas tossed around. Lets keep up the good offense.
  17. It has long been believed that those who do well in AA ball will do well in the majors. not sure why. Maybe the AA players are more hungry and not as many hanging on. AAA players are more for depth and rehab. I'm amazed that a team would keep a player over 30 in the minors anymore- especially after the minors have been shrunk.
  18. The Twins have to win 15 of the next 20-22 games to be considered a serious contender this season. If they don't, it could be difficult for them to make the playoffs.
  19. I will never figure out this WAR stat or even how they figure it but it's great to see Bux doing well. Now if he only can stay healthy. His defense has been great as well but we know that. In order for him to win MVP, the Twins will have to win or come close to winning the Division. That could still happen and would become more realistic if they can win 15 of the next 20-22 games.
  20. Nice to see the bats break out but home runs are not the answer. They need to be better hitters and home runs can only lead to more strikeouts. let's see what happens in the games that are close. Also nice that Happ is in a good groove right now. The bullpen could not possibly blow this one- even if Austudillo was pitching....or could they?
  21. I chose the Royals as the team that could surprise this year in the AL (even though I picked the Angels to win the West). They have some very good young players and pitchers who, if they all come together, could make a run. While I don't expect them to win the division, winning early in the season gives them the belief that they can go on. And Hunter Dozier hasn't begun to hit just yet. It would not surprise me if they finished third in the Central. The Tigers are also a team of the future as they have the best young pitchers in the division and in their minor leagues. I expect them to be contenders within 2 years if their management makes the right decisions. They already have the best manager in the division..
  22. I read they were toying with Colombe's delivery and/or grip. Could that be a major part of his problem? He certainly has stunk this year so far. Why mess with what has been successful in the past? Maeda certainly is nothing like we saw last year. Hopefully he can regain some of that form. Much of the offense (?) is toast except for a few sparks and the defense, which has always been a strength, has been awful. These are things that happen when a team goes South. I'm surprised that, with the losing and then Baldelli forgetting about the mound visit rule, that he wasn't fired. Something has to be done to shake this team up. Usually it's the manager that is let go first. I guess we'll see.
  23. Austudillo uninspiring??? Who are you watching? He's among our top hitters which isn't saying much. The scary thing is not only how poorly this team is playing but the fact that only 10% of teams in history that have started this bad after 20 games have bounced back to make the playoffs. You might say that they are in a weak division with only the White sox to beat, however it doesn't look like a wild card team will come from the central at this point. I only wish they still had Rosario though May would also have helped. Let's see what comes this week but we have to win 4 at least and what are the odds of that happening?
  24. Though I am not a fan of "the shoe", he pitched well enough to win today. I'm almost ready to give up on Garver but we don't have much else. He looks hopeless at the plate in most instances. Maybe he should concentrate on hitting the other way most of the time and look for those pitches. Maybe when the others get healthy, Austudillo (God forbid) should catch. At least he is hitting the ball. Kiriloff will get going soon. The talent is there. It's just a matter of time. But the team is starting to run out of time unless they can turn this around. If we can't beat the Pirates........
  25. Happ is certainly capable of pitching almost as good as he did last night. He won't win 20 games but he is a decent veteran. I don't like Ausudillo and was even surprised to see him make the team. But he is playing well enough to hang around for awhile, he is versatile and boy, can he pitch. Cave is a favorite of mine though he really isn't more than a fill-in. Nice to see him contribute.
