  1. When you are losing, you find new ways to lose and vice-versa. Despite a good period just before the All-Star game, the Twins reverted back to losing to a seemingly inferior team. Maeda struggled with command but only gave up 1 key hit- to someone we let go. Then Rogers gives up a game tying hit- to someone we let go. Then the weird hit ending the game. Taking Sano out made no sense IMHO because he was leading off an inning. Yuck!
  2. When you are a contending team, you go with experience but we are not a contending team right now so we need to evaluate some other prospects to see who can help going forward. The trouble is that we have let go some people that maybe we should have kept and those who we have are not doing the job or have not been coached or evaluated properly. While I still do not believe we are as bad as our record shows, the team management has some hard decisions moving forward. Probably only 1 or 2 of those mentioned in this article will ever succeed at the ML level. If we can pick those out, it will certainly benefit us later on.
  3. I would stay away from Fabian. Wilson seems like the best player of those listed. Williams plays close to home and has been very good when ECU plays better schools. Norby is also a good player out of Pirate Nation. It's so hard to evaluate players where metal bats are used. I leave it to the experts and hope we can get 3-4 future major leaguers in any draft.
  4. Weirdo stats that may not make sense. Pressley had a high side and potential that Houston wanted. I don't think many here were happy with that deal at the time. Alcala had not yet had much experience. I don't know what everyone wants from him but I think he still has an upside that can help. He won't be a closer that saves 30 games a season but could obtain 20+ holds when needed. And if the changeup make his other 2 pitches better then look out.
  5. Kaat was my favorite pitcher and is now my favorite announcer. He has a great pace and knowledge of the game. Good to see Maeda put in a good effort. Though I didn't think he would duplicate 2020, I didn't think he would struggle so much this year. And the relievers did well.
  6. I guess Buxton would have taken this spot had he been healthy but Cruz also deserves this. I still have hope that we can sign him for next year rather than trade him at the deadline.
  7. While I really like Max though I have been touting trading him to the Yankees who desperately need a lefty hitter and Max can take advantage of the short porch in Yankee Stadium, I do hope he stays with the Twins and plays about 120 games a season against right handed pitching. He could hit .260 with 25 home runs and 75 RBI if he can do that though that may be his ceiling. He's also a good defender. Part of the problem is we don't know who else we have. I am not a fan of Larnach though he's just a rookie and wonder why he is batting so high in the lineup. If the Twins do trade him, I would hope we can get something decent for him.
  8. I would trade Donaldson if we can get a couple of players who will help soon- and at least one pitcher. I would not trade, but would rather sign, both Simmons and Cruz before the deadline. Cruz is still a monster and Simmons is the glue to the infield. I would rather not trade Pineda since he has been good and will eat innings. However, we may have to if he is healthy since we may not be able to sign him. Look, in Berrios, Maeda and Pineda we have 3 decent starters. It would be nice to have a Scherzer type as a top dog but can we get someone like that since Berrios may not be quite like that? I still could see trading Kepler if he has value.
  9. Both about equal. And I thought Robles wasn't bad either. I would not trade either Berrios or Rogers.
  10. It's not just the minors. Major leaguers are constantly hitting the IL though I don't know if the numbers are up from previous years. And batting averages are way down. I almost thought we were going to have a batting champion like Pete Runnels (I think) who won a batting title batting .298 or maybe was the only .300 hitter in the league (.302?) when he won (oh, that really dates me). Ok. I looked it up. It was 1968 and it was Yaz who won the batting title with a .301 average. He was the only .300 hitter in the AL that year. Oliva was in the top 10 but hit less than .300.
  11. He's probably at least 2 years away because of slumps and missed time. However, he seems to be able to handle the tough times and that is important in a prospect. I'm not high on Lewis at all so we'll see where this guy winds up for the rest of this year and next.
  12. How about this package. Twins trade Simmons, Pineda and Kepler to the Yankees for Devi Garcia, Gleber Torres (or Miguel Andujar) and a minor leaguer or significant cash. The Yankees need a pitcher who can keep them in games and a left handed hitter. If I were the Twins GM I would extend Buxton, sign Cruz for 2022 now and never, never trade for Jackie Bradley Jr. We don't need him- ever. I would also not trade Donaldson at this time. Being sellers does not mean gutting the team. Most teams who are sellers don't compete for years- if ever. I know we will see what we can get for Cruz but I would not trade him (and sign him instead before the deadline) if a solid deal isn't there by July 20. I also might keep Shoemaker. i know he's been pretty bad but he hasn't pitched in several years, seems ok for long relief and has had to regain his footing. And probably nobody would want him. Happ won't get us anything but is not in our future plans. I'd also like to keep Simmons for defense but he's likely to go.
  13. Seems like none of our top prospects are in AAA or are injured. I guess that means that immediate help is not available. Since someone like Arraez is not listed as a prospect, I don't see why those on the team like Kiriloff are still listed. I doubt they would be sent back down. I was surprised by yesterday's lineup which moved Arraez away from the leadoff spot and keeps Larnach high in the lineup. To me it makes no sense.
  14. Guys and gals- VOTE! VOTE! VOTE! for Cruz for DH in the All-Star game. Time is running out. He's the best and only real DH that should be there. I know Ohtani is popular but he's not a DH. Good win last night. Happ was a bit wild which cost him a possible win but the bullpen held the tough Reds at bay then we come back before winning it.
  15. I have to take Allison though several may never have seen him play. Bostock was a very good hitter with limited power. Mack, Hisle and Rosario are close. Sorry but I don't know much about Stewart's time with us. I must have been sleeping.
  16. A good win and sweep. This is the way it should have been from the beginning. The first home run off Maeda was a good pitch. Gallo will hit homers at times but he's not a good hitter. A lot like Sano. Guys and Girls-- We gotta push heavily for Cruz to be the DH. I know Ohtani is the crowd pleaser but Cruz is a real DH. Vote! Vote! Vote!
  17. Because we expected so much, this feels close to the worst staff ever. Statistics wise it is among the 5 worst right now but let's see how the rest of the season goes. The relievers, after Colome, haven't been terrible but have been inconsistent. And Colome has been better lately. Subtract Shoe and Dobnack and the starters have been disappointing for what we thought we had- even Happ was ok for his first 5 starts. The offense, or lack of it, also has to be part of the blame for this poor season. I just hope management doesn't gut the core of the team because of one bad season. The core is still good- if it ever stays healthy- another issue.
  18. Ober should have started the 5th inning. Not pitching a pitcher because he hasn't pitched in very many games is dumb. If he hadn't thrown more than 75 pitches in a game then maybe, only maybe, wait until his next start but I agree with those who say he should have pitched one more inning.
  19. Whoa! This was ONE GAME. We were all talking about how great Littel was doing and then he gave up 4 runs without getting anyone out yesterday. Let's see how this guy does over time.
  20. Tampa has a brass that knows how to evaluate talent. And their minor league team in Durham (near me) wins the league almost every year. That is really saying something. Plus the big spenders in the East spend much time on the disabled list.
  21. I would almost be willing to bet that, if Buxton does get traded, that he stays injury free for 3 straight years. And who is this Pesch character. It sounds like he cannot hit major league pitching so why would we trade for him? I'd love to see him go to the Yankees where there are no walls to crash into. But, for the Twins sake, I hope they can keep him (and Berrios) or, if necessary, trade him to the National League- but next year at the deadline if we happen to have a team like this year (doubtful).
  22. Good to see Kiriloff go deep with his wrist issues and Maeda gave us about what was expected. The defense could have saved a run and the relievers were shaky at times but the offense didn't produce enough to win. Solo shots were nice but not enough. We tried and hopefully Happ can give us 6 good innings tonight.
  23. You don't break up an entire core of the team just because of one bad year/start. I could see trading Kepler and maybe Polanco out of this group but none of the others.
  24. Relievers can be good for one year or two and not so good the next year. But Littell was young and could have been protected. The sample size for 2020 was small. Also, the article never mentioned his pitch speed and bats missed which are important. Right now he, and the Giants, are playing over their heads. While it would be nice for both to continue, let's see where they are in mid-August. Hey, the Yankees gave up on Tauchman and he is flourishing with the Giants while the Yanks are starving for a left handed bat.
  25. I'm not sure why they changed his slider grip this Spring. Also, which batters were swinging at it? Major leaguers or minor leaguers. Dobnack's story to the bigs is a nice one but maybe it is not a long lasting one. I have hopes that he can recover a decent ability to pitch here (but not against the Yankees). We have him cheap for 4 more years if he lasts that long. If not, we haven't lost too much. Certainly the rest of this year and next year will tell the tale.
