Review of “The Franchise” by La Velle E. Neal III
BigJoeGun posted a blog entry in Twins Nation Podcast
Just finished this book. It’s a pretty good deep dive into the history of the franchise from the time they moved to Minnesota to now. The only complaints I have about the book is there were some factual errors, typos the editor didn’t catch and information that was repeated that I feel may have been to make the book longer than it needed to be. If you’re interested, you can purchase the book here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0D21W7KMK/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?ie=UTF8&dib_tag=se&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1PknmVpZ6GRltlcTVCB7YotltCjURjxK0SaH6vcn_p0.aCCtDNTwahXGeFWjgkzrvgkZ_PEC7glQlYCaTNKz-A8&qid=1725994267&sr=8-1 -

Hi again everyone. I hope you all are well. I just finished reading Herb Carneal’s book titled “Hi Everybody!” Here are my thoughts: This book is about one of, if not the man, I wanted to be growing up, “The Voice of the Minnesota Twins” on the radio. This was a good book, I just wish he had told more behind the scenes stories rather than talking about individual games that we can read about in other publications. I wish I had read this when it actually came out instead of now since so much has changed since then. All in all a decent book and one that a Minnesota Twins fan, a fan of baseball or a Minnesota sports fan in general would probably enjoy.. 3 out of 5 stars. You can purchase it on Amazon here https://www.amazon.com/Hi-Everybody-Herb-Carneal/dp/0931714699/ref=mp_s_a_1_fkmr2_1?crid=1V0FQZGT79RLO&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.GLJy1R2kyEYN-dgzzYBVlxfkuJsXgmLWwo3yGecdoKfebjcF7l0CSwGX5gdkB8oCQUfVo24fuMw_4M9QwfDqWVUJuBb6hBSnUNj5jFAyI3c.31V7n38QSVySyvUhbC8Ex2reM62lwgmpOR0JWDC1wlU&dib_tag=se&keywords=hello+everybody+herb+corneal&qid=1713757689&sprefix=hello+everybody+herb+carneal%2Caps%2C98&sr=8-1-fkmr2

Review of “Tony Oliva: The Life and Times of a Minnesota Twins Legend”
BigJoeGun posted a blog entry in Twins Nation Podcast
This book written by Thom Henninge tells the story of the great Tony Oliva. Tony O. has a fascinating life story from growing up in Cuba to coming to the USA to pursue his dream of playing baseball. This book really delves into all the things that this man has endured to make his dream happen. Unfortunately that dream came to an end sooner than he would have liked and was published before he received a long overdue honor of getting into the Hall of Fame. A must read for any Twins or just baseball fan in general. If you’re interested, you can buy it here: https://www.amazon.com/Tony-Oliva-Times-Minnesota-Legend/dp/0816694893/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?crid=3NJN9UFYV977Q&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.idLCl4cEvKUucSeMqouMWvVCqQsuTI1A8avNx1X9WzFNJ64VkU-laCMTlYZ_ZaVskJSf3iVAe4UCvhGBWTmpJKbvwx4nb69UBv_N6lHfbc2f265t91BsFPbZAQ-qVchmdf_iMUkMzqgY_k17KZEOtyxvjGjFsgOAWLPXyH-lLTVNsmhC10_QkMCBWc3XyGRMz1BYmz89gW3K9W4hdJKUig.Zl-q0F2r0PF24R8yyP_WVmOusdttFXj-9tUkV-NOyvk&dib_tag=se&keywords=tony+oliva&qid=1712012873&sprefix=tony+oliva%2Caps%2C111&sr=8-1 -

I recommend this book for any baseball history lover. I listened to the audio version and I’d say that’s the best way to go because you get to hear the actual voices of these players from eras gone by. The stories are fantastic. Hi everyone, Sorry I haven’t posted in a very long time. Everyone on here does such a good job covering the team I’ve been struggling with figuring out what could I possibly add that would be unique to the site. I haven’t found anyone on here who reviews books so that’s something I’m going to start doing. If there is someone on here who already does this I’m sorry for stealing your idea. The first book I’m going to review is “Harmon Killebrew: Ultimate Slugger” by Steve Aschburner. Here’s my review: I thought this book was great! This is a great biography of the greatest slugger in Washington Senators/Minnesota Twins history. I thought the story of his life and career was really well done by this author. I especially loved the stories about Harmon off the field since I already knew about his playing career exploits. It made me really jealous of my wife who got to meet Harmon in real life before he passed away. Highly recommended. You can buy the book from Amazon here on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Harmon-Killebrew-Ultimate-Steve-Aschburner/dp/1600787029/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=3LJKIPBLX1FWA&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.1IWTgxRUrrDZSnHTyrIZNcu6C4cRlqcPI7E89o47yMHjCSanbmhj_emo84vsAVaNnhbWhJQ7O8Rhs0cqz5xlbsz6UQu4TI-dRKM6BzjJXTm8LCEhSpRbGsTjAt6_wMb5Q2tygs3oYP4fbN3PQXiMqABkUKPY5zaFdBz9Yyl6znvfZue8NpXQw0j0FwFHaYcqs3GMJSdv92_DC47NcoIMqg.FkQJ3fTkStl80fMIl2GR61DOqC5_mwMa-MYmBmHVNxA&dib_tag=se&keywords=harmon+killebrew&qid=1710444362&sprefix=%2Caps%2C332&sr=8-2

Twins take series, win Edouard Julien’s MLB debut
BigJoeGun posted a blog entry in Twins Nation Podcast
Sonny Gray tossed 5 scoreless innings as the Twins beat the White Sox 3-1 Wednesday to take the three game series 2-1 and cap off a 4-2 homestand. Gray now has a 0.53 ERA through three starts this season, It appears that he also only went 5 innings today because he is battling an upper respiratory virus. He left with a lead that was never relinquished, earning himself a win. Kind of sweet justice for him after not getting the win in his previous, even better, start because the bullpen couldn’t hold that lead. The Twins won their third series out of four behind another sharp performance from a thriving rotation that ranks second in the major leagues in ERA at 2.41, Top prospect Edouard Julien, called up to replace Joey Gallo on the active roster, made his big league debut going 0 for 2 with a walk. Not all was rosy for the Twins this day however. Utility infielder Kyle Farmer, starting at shortstop for Carlos Correa who needed another day off with a sore back, was hit in the face by a pitch from White Sox pitcher Lucas Giolito. Farmer is headed for oral surgery to realign four teeth and repair a major laceration around his jaw. Also, outfielder/DH Byron Buxton gave everyone a scare when he collided with White Sox second baseman Lenyn Sosa and lay on the infield dirt in pain for several minutes before walking off under his own power. The win improves the Twins record to 8-4 as they head to the Bronx to start a four game series at the House of Horrors known as Yankee Stadium to face the Bronx Bombers. Player’s birthday profile: Let’s look back at a player from Twins/Senators franchise history. Today’s player is Jack (John) “Black Jack” Wilson. Wilson was born on this day in 1912 in Salem, Oregon. He played all or part of nine seasons in for the Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Athletics, Washington Senators, and Detroit Tigers. Wilson was a good hitting pitcher in his major league career, posting a .199 batting average with 34 runs, 3 home runs and 49 RBI in 281 games pitched. Wilson served as a player-manager for the Salem Senators in 1947 and 1948. Wilson died on April 19, 1995 in Edmonds Washington. -

The Twins came away victorious tonight 3-2 vs. the Chicago White Sox in their first home night game of the 2023 season. The win came on an error on what was supposed to just be a sacrifice bunt by Michael A. Taylor. Instead, the throw from the pitcher hit Taylor on the helmet and went into right field allowing pinch runner Willi Castro to score on the play. Taylor was given credit for a hit but no RBI as the run scored because of the error.. Pablo Lopez, who struggled in the first inning, was otherwise fantastic in his home debut going 7 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and striking out ten on 98 pitches. He retired the last 23 hitters he faced. The pitch count is really impressive when you take into account that 31 of those were in the first inning. The Twins are now 7-4 with the series rubber match coming up tomorrow against the White Sox. The win comes on Kenta Maeda’s 35th birthday. The Twins right hander, who missed pitching on his birthday by a day, was born on this date in 1988 in Tadaoka, Osaka Japan. He became the youngest pitcher in Japanese baseball history to achieve the pitching Triple Crown in the same year. He won the Sawamura Award for the second time in 2015. Maeda was selected out of PL Gakuen Senior High School by the Hiroshima Toyo Carp of Japan's 2006 NPB Draft (NPB). He played in Japan through the 2015 season. On January 7, 2016, Maeda signed an eight-year, $25 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers that included $10 million per year in incentives. On February 10, 2020, the Dodgers traded Maeda, Jaír Camargo and cash considerations to the Minnesota Twins for Brusdar Graterol, Luke Raley and the 67th draft pick in the 2020 MLB draft. In the 2020 season, his first with the Twins, he was 6–1 with a 2.70 ERA.[He led the major leagues in WHIP (0.750) and finished as the runner-up for the 2020 American League Cy Young Award behind Shane Bieber. In the 2021 season, Maeda went 6–5 with a 4.66 ERA until a UCL year ended his season prematurely. On September 1, 2021, it was announced that Maeda had undergone Tommy John surgery and would miss the entire 2022 season. He is back this year and pitching pretty well so far. Maeda lives in Tokyo with his wife, Saho, daughter and son in the offseason. A fan of the reality television show Terrace House since its beginning, Maeda personally asked to be a guest commentator and appeared in episode 45 of the Opening New Doors season. I hope you enjoyed this read. Come back for more tomorrow.

Happy off day to you all! Are off days ever happy for us? I guess if they are struggling they are. Our guys are still in first place at 47-38 despite, as Aaron Gleeman of The Athletic and Gleeman and the Geek puts it, "their best efforts to try give it away." Obviously the part of this team that appears to need the most attention is the bullpen. It was no more obvious than this past week with them losing three games in walk-off fashion including yesterday's heartbreaker vs. the White Sox. The good news, if you want to call it that, they appear to be in the worst division in baseball and just when it appears they may lose the division lead, the Guardians and White Sox go ahead and go into a spiral of their own and the Twins are able to expand the lead. They currently sit at 4 1/2 games ahead of Cleveland in the division and 5 1/2 ahead of the White Sox after taking 2 of 3 vs. Chicago. On this week's Twins Nation Podcast, my cohost Chris and I discuss the bullpen struggles, the upcoming trade deadline, the upcoming schedule and the pending return of Miguel Sano and just what the heck will they do with him when he's eligible to return. Please consider giving it a listen at the link below or on any place you find podcasts. https://www.podpage.com/twins-nation/walk-it-off-and-put-your-sox-away/
