What numbers would like to see for Albers next year?

So far 2-0 with 0.00 Era 0.40 Whip and .105 opp ave.

In his combined minor league career (not including independent ball in which he was 3-0) he's 25-10 with a 2.86 Era and a 1.18 Whip.

Realistically I'd be more than happy with 14-10 with a 3.22 Era and a whip of 1.24

What numbers would work for you?

A 3.22 ERA!!! As much as I would love that, lets be realistic here. I would like to see an ERA just under 4.5 from him. That would be a solid first year contribution. Anything from 4 to 4.5 is going to fluctuate based on luck so if he can sit anywhere in there I'd be pretty happy.

Realistically...

You keep on using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I would be happy if he passes the Pavano test: 4.00-4.25 ERA, 200 IP.

I don't really care what his WHIP or anything at that point is. Just give us 200 IP and keep us in more ball games then not. (i.e. be a nice, cheap #4)

Personally, I just want him to get through this year before worrying about next. Two exciting starts, but we've seen this before. Way too early to know whether we actually have something here or it's just beginner's luck/lack of familiarity. Let's see what happens when teams start facing him for the 2nd or 3rd time.

I think he can get to the numbers I suggested if he has strong defense in the infield and outfield. If he doesn't I agree it could get bad for him. Pitch to contact only works with strong defense, getting ahead in the count and changing speeds a lot.

I hope he doesn't regress too far from his minor league career numbers, but like I said I'd be more than happy if he posted the numbers I listed. If he did even better and matched his minor league numbers I'd be ecstatic.

By the way I asked what numbers would make you happy, not how you could find something else to bitch about on TD or put a negative spin on a positive story.

Dr. Jim not to attack you, but you couldn't see Albers coming up at all from the posts I remember, never mind giving the Twins the 2 best starts of their season.

The thing is, the only chance he has to match his minor league numbers is if he gets that K rate up to at least 7.0 per 9 in the majors, frankly, I am not sure he has the "Stuff" to do it, which is why a sub 3.50 ERA is pretty unlikely.

I still hope he can be what Diamond was last year.

The funny thing about Albers is that despite his ridiculously slow fastball, his minors success wasn't purely PTC-based - he posted a 7.9 K/9 at Rochester this year.

I don't think he'll be able to replicate that in the majors (SSS but he's at 2.1 so far), although I would love to be proven wrong. So I would be satisfied with say 4.25 ERA, 6.0 K/9, 175 IP, 17 quality starts. Replacement level for some teams, middle of the rotation for the Twins. All that is assuming Albers even makes the big league squad out of spring training.

Sorry about the negativity, it's a fun story and would be thrilling if he can keep up the great outings.

It's hard to think of a Twins starter whose 2014 performance would be harder to predict at the moment than Albers. Maybe Deduno.

32-0 0.00 ERA 287 1/3 IP. Gardy yanks him with 2 outs to go in the last start of the season.

I'd be surprised if Albers is even part of the team next year. I think he's a good story right now, but I'm clearly not the only one who thinks MLB hitters will eventually catch up to that 85 mph heater. I wouldn't hate to be wrong on that - but we'll see. My prediction for next year:

1.) Free Agent signing (a front line guy this time please Terry)

2.) The return of either Correia or Pelphry (one - not both)

3.) Gibson (he must step up)

4.) Duduno (he's earned it)

5.) Worley/Hendricks/Defries (one of these guys will step up or they'll rotate in/out AAA)

* Meyer/May hopefully will be at AAA and doing well

What I'd dream of: Albers as a number legit number 2 or even 3

What I'd realistically like to see....Albers as a number 4/5 type starter.

What I expect to see: Albers bopping between Rochester and MN to cover for injuries and bad performances.

It's quite a fair attack. I am quite happy for him but I am stunned by his performance so far. Absolutely stunned.

If he is good enough to make it through the rest of the year and be a part of the opening day rotation next year I would be equally stunned. I am quite willing to be that stunned.

Psh. 45 starts or bust. We could go to a 3 1/2 man rotation. First in baseball.

I think if he's pitching regularly for the Twins next year, it more than likely means we failed again this offseason in acquiring any halfway decent pitchers. I'm glad he had 2 good games, but you're talking the ultimate small sample size here, with some spectacular defensive plays behind him. I'd love to be wrong, but I think we're just looking at a Scott Diamond 2.0, where people are excited that a Twins pitcher hasn't been total ass and are getting their hopes up way too high.

I think it's pretty much a given that he's the next Sandy Koufax.

Pffft, Koufax allowed a run.

And hopefully not turn into what Diamond was this year.

I'm not a predictor and I won't even try. I just want to see how he finishes up the season, then we'll see.

The most realistic post here...

we have 5 spots in the rotation, we can really only have one #4 and one #5, but it sure seems some like some have no issues with minimizing expectations of pitchers saying, it's not so bad cause he'll be an ok #4 or #5. We shouldn't be okay with saying that about 3, 4 or even 5 of our expected starters next year.

It's nice to be thinking of a pitcher who might see opposing teams for as many as 3 times.
