Can you even imagine an infield of Arias, Houston, and Culpepper for six or seven years starting no later than ‘28?  Those three are all potential all stars - and not unreasonably so.  Not to mention two stud young lefty starters in Tolle and Rojas.

What were Falvey and ownership thinking?  Probably the same delusional thoughts Shelton and TP are thinking today.

 

 

Arias wasn't even a top 100 prospect last year and Tolle was a top 16.  Now I liked Tolle.     There is value in having some leaders on your team showing the young players how to be professionals.  The team is getting value from Ryan but yes we haven't seen a prospect return per se.  The Twins sound like they wanted MLB talent last year and Duran was who they wanted.  I am glad that trade did not go through LOL.

Arias was a top fifty prospect on fangraphs before the trade deadline last year.

Gomez, Morris, and Nance are good.  Rogers has provided some decent consistency.  Funderburk is up and down. The last month the bullpen has performed so much better.  The back end is still questionable.  Right now Adams and Sands sub 95 mph fastball are not good enough.   I actually think Anderson has some ability.  

Ryan is asking for 7 year $210 million contract.

Arias is overall #3 and #7 top prospect on Baseball America and MLB, respectively.  He’s 20 and just demolished AA and was promoted to AAA this week.

Tolle is 24.  He has a 3.31 ERA and a WHIP of 1.15 averaging over a strikeout per inning in his rookie season.

Whom do you honestly think we can get better than those two for a starting to age out, can’t pitch in the 2nd half, wants a huge deal we can’t afford starter? Please, let all of us know a better deal than that.

Coming into last year Arias was not viewed as a high prospect to start the season.  His value increased drastically in the middle and end of last year and this year.  Good on Arias but multiple individuals claimed the return for Ryan was light.  Looking in hindsight at players that have outperformed this year isn't realistic.

He was 37 on fangraphs at the start of 2025.... That seems pretty high.

Source, please. I saw this made up contract a few days ago with no actual source. It's attributed to Dan Hayes of the Athletic, but there aren't any linked articles and I can't find any article when searching for it. This appears to be more likely a Twins Daily made up rumor being treated as fact and A.I. models seem to be hallucinating.

The time to make major trade deadline deals is when your team has a legitimate shot at a winning it all.  Not when your team might sneak into the playoffs.  At this point the Twins should look at their strengths and trade from them to fill weaknesses (catching for pitching).  They should not be trading any top prospects for expiring contracts.  

Any time you are in the playoffs you can win it all.

Its coming from 2 things - 1 yes Hayes which gives some credence.  2 is this near the expected value of a contract.

Ye olde “Hindsight is 20/20” excuse. The better GMs and franchises somehow figure out how to beat that lame way of thinking.  Falvey and the Twins are not in that category.

Regardless, a top 50 prospect and a very promising left handed, on the cusp starter was plenty for Ryan last deadline anyway.  

We couldn’t trade Ryan straight up right now for either Tolle or Arias, let alone both.

I'm not saying the Twins should be huge buyers (nobody really is saying that). But I do feel obligated to say that the Twins are 3.5 games out of a 1st round bye and have the 6th easiest remaining SOS.

For me, because of that fact, it feels incredibly silly to trade away any pieces that makes the 2026 team worse. 

Are we a great team? Nope. But we ARE in an incredibly weak league and a very weak division. And like I said, we are 3.5 games out of getting a first round bye.

The Twins fanbase was killed all ready,  trading Ryan would have been difficult for most to handle.  I would know I was one of the few stating this was the best option and was actually stating the Trades the Twins did was good for the longterm.  I would have been ok with the trade.    However you had many thinking it was a light return.  I can't change that.   Most hated Bradley last year.   We can't quite say the Twins do a horrible job at picking out talent.   Rojas is definitely looking intriguing and I have like Abel more than most on this site.
