With the drastically changed defensive alignment and a few guys actually hitting, I've talked myself into the idea that this team might actually be mediocre instead of bad.

Progress!

So Tigers staked Skubal to a 4-0 lead on Schittler. Balls are flying outta the Bronx bandbox tonight and it's only 86 degrees there tonight. It's supposed to be 105 on Saturday there.. some kind of playing conditions for a day game.

Balls are flying out in Baltimore too.  The White Sox have an 8-1 and chased the O's pitcher in the 3rd inning.

Skubal just gave up a blast too. I pity any pitcher throwing in the Mid Atlantic or East Coast this weekend.. DC Baltimore Philly NY hell even Boston Chicago Cinci Detroit.

We need to see if Fedko is even with the team.   We don't need the Outman role, they should be using everyone on the roster.

Outman had a known very good glove; this is not - let us see - little league.

Had Fedko impressed in his early chances, things might be differentj, but even at that , I would rather have Kreidler at Short Stop and Fedko in Center..

Thankfully "who is the backup CF" is not the biggest question in Twins lineup and roster construction because Buxton has been relatively healthy - but seeing Kreidler in that spot is a reminder of how fascinatingly shifty that role has been, even in half a season.

It seems that the current evaluation is they're better with Gray at SS, Clemens at 2B, and Kreidler in CF than with Kreidler at SS, Gray at 2B, and some combo of Clemens and Martin in CF/RF...?
And/or maybe this is how they prioritize OF defense, based on Ryan's fly-ball tendencies?

First I am not necessarily advocating for Fedko, but he hasn't really been given a chance.  He started one game then a week later two games in three days.  So I am not sure you can say he has really been given a chance.  But we don't need a defensive replacement and pinch runner role that they had Outman in.  We need 13 position players that can play,  not one that you won't even give an AB to in a week.

And putting Kreidler at CF and Gray at SS weakens the defense overall.  Shelton or the analytics staff who advise him seem to have a fascination with Gray at SS that I do not understand.

This lineup is begging for Kaelen Culpepper to make his MLB debut soon.

So are we 🙏

I do not understand continuing to play Gray - like, we have so many outfielders. And yes, obviously I have this take - but is Kreidler’s glove not better in the infield?

Kreidler in CF is out of necessity since Buxton is out.  You could have Fedko play CF, but Kreidler's bat is currently playing.  When Culpepper is called up, Gray should see the unemployment line and Kreidler should be the backup SS/OF.

The Twins are not sold on Kreidler, I am not a big believer as you are but I don't mind him in a utility role.  But how did Gray beat him out in spring training.

Martin or Fedko in CF is better than Gray at SS.  Keep Kreidler at SS and leave Gray on the bench.  I would not bet the house that Kreidler stays and Gray is the one gone if and when Culpepper is called up.  The Twins have shown a preference to have Gray at short whether Buxton is in the lineup or not.

Unfortunately, that is the obsession with Gray being a LH bat.  At the beginning of the season, we had too many LH bats.  Now it seems like we don't have enough and Shelton is convinced that we need that extra LH bat in the lineup.

But then he says they emphasize defense and so they move Keaschall for better defense but insert Gray at SS.  There is still no plan for this organization.  More every day I want Zoll gone so we could get some direction towards being better than a .500 team.
