Twins outspent by Pirates?

There have been a lot of events over the past two years that make me feel like we’ve hit rock bottom; we aren’t quite there yet. Pohlads exploring new lows for Twins Territory.

The Pirates should be pushing the chips in. They're only going to get so many years with Skenes in the rotation.

Let’s be realistic,  the pirates are being forced by the league to spend more, trying to take advantage of Skenes next 2 years before they have to trade him.  Acting like this is a bad thing just seems wierd. I am glad the Pirates should have a competitive team. $ for $ I take the Bell deal over the O’Hearn deal.

Disagree. OHearn projects for 4 WAR for $29M. Bell projects for 0.5 WAR for $7M. Pirates get the better deal and the better player.

Yep. Another Falvey-esque move on display. Does not understand value. does not understand "budget." We can only hope against hope that Bell turns into Bader/Santana instead of Margot/Gallo

Turning into Bader or Santana would be wonderful.

However... if Bell has a great year... they will need to repeat the process next year and hope that the next player who is Josh Bell like can the next Bader or Santana and on and on it goes. 

The best possible outcome for a resurgent Josh Bell is that you might be able to trade him at the deadline for a Mendez type talent.

That's the best possible outcome as longer term solutions are delayed going on 8 years now since Joe Mauer retired in 2018.

I am not in the least defending the current direction but as I recall, when Santana and Bader were signed, the majority of this board said they were terrible signings and had similar criticism of the FO.

What this team needs is a legitimate, long term first baseman. One who can hit, hit for power and play respectable defense. As we don't have any potential solutions in the minors, we're going to have to trade for one eventually. This year to year one year signings of has been is getting kind of old....

Oh yeah, I was dead set against the Santana signing; absolutely hated it. Bader was fine, and I looked back to when he was signed for my comments on the matter. I never expected Bader to be as good (or healthy) as he was.

Anything can happen, and you're not going to get me to actively root against players being successful, but dumpster diving looking for value isn't going to be successful often enough to justify it. That's my point.
