Ya, up to 15 million per team? Maybe this will be "extra" money Falvey can spend?

Maybe, but how the ‘up to’ part works is unclear to me.

Would this agreement do anything for Bally beyond this year?  I was really hoping Bally would be a thing of the past by next spring, and the Twins could get on an non-blacked out streaming option.

Probably not. I assume this is a band aid fix to get them back on Comcast/Xfinity for the rest of this season.

Extra $20 a month sucks but at least the first 3 months are free.

Yeah I was just coming back to correct this because I didn’t see the “Ultimate TV package” at first. It’s a 3 month promotion then it’ll be more expensive for the T Wolves and Wild seasons.

Talk about a kick to the crotch.

What? This gets the Twins through the regular season then they will hopefully figure out to tell Bally Sports to pound sand next season.

I'll wager a beer of your choice they're on BSN next year.

Deal?

Deal. Write that down! For the Skor North podcast listeners. If they crawl back to them once again, MLB is in big trouble.

I hope they are on Bally's but without any exclusivity.  Being on Bally's is ideal for fans who want to keep their current provider.   In some or most cases that will likely mean an additional fee for regional sports.  You have to believe there will be substantially change next year.  The league is not going to just punt.  Either MLB will take greater control, or we could see the Twins / Wolves / Wild and Lynx form an entity to distribute their product.

For this region it does make sense to bundle all of the sports teams together under one network. I can’t imagine people will be happy about paying for a stand alone Twins app, stand alone Wild app, etc etc. Just give us as many options as possible to watch them.

This Comcast decision anchors the potential streaming price at $20/month. That's probably the best way to do it; pay $20/month for the Twins either on cable or standalone on streaming. I can't imagine why anyone would keep cable if those are the options but some people seem to like endless terrible reality TV shows and  pharmaceutical advertisements.

That's the point.  The teams could form a united effort to provide coverage to all of the sports team on a single provider like the YES network.  It's the ultimate control over their product.

I hope that’s the direction they go. Form a new channel called Minnesota Sports Network or whatever. Then offer it as a standalone app for $300 a year, and negotiate deals with all of the streaming services like YouTube TV, Hulu, DirecTV, Comcast, etc. Make it ridiculously easy to get their content no matter what provider you have.

While they have not done much to inspire confidence in their marketing department, wider distribution is just not that tough given the available options.  Lots of details to workout for sure.  This is not something you put together in 90 days.  That would explain the interim solution.  Now they need to make the most of this opportunity significantly increase accessibility to their product.  That exposure is the key to increasing fan participation and ultimately increasing revenue.

That sounds like what they are trying to do with the Venu streaming service that might launch soon. Personally, I'd rather just pay $120 for MLB.tv and watch the Twins there. I'm not that interested in sports other than baseball. That said, $360 a year for all MN sports is a LOT better than $1500/year for cable TV.

I just saw this MLB New Offer

It appears fans we can get out of market games for $6/month.  Wow!   That's going to have a huge impact on the viability of RSNs.   I have been of the mindset that the new model will be wide distribution where they rely on increasing advertising revenue.  It looks like that's where they are headed.
