My dad in the Pacific Theater.

My Dad was still Stateside when the war ended. He was in the Army-Air Corps training to be a bombardier. One of my uncles was a CB in the Navy. Was somewhere in the Pacific.

who do you want to remember that fought in a war to protect the America FREE?

Memorial Day honors all those who died while wearing our uniform. Bless them all.

Grandad was a mule skinner (took care of mules and horses carting artillery) in France during WWI, Dad chased Rommel during WWII, through North Africa and landed with Eisenhower in Sicily and then Italy,  As well, the pilots, navigators, and EWOs in our squadron, shot down over Laos/Vietnam and all the Vietnam vets with whom I now mentor younger vets in a court alternative program.

Not to change the topic from your great post, but you are near Lake Como? Ever go to that DQ on Lexington?

My grandpa was on the boat on the way over to the Philippines for the Japanese mainland invasion force build up when the war ended.  He was a 6' tall medic, so there's a strong possibility that I wouldn't exist if they had to invade.

Walking distance. My wife says I should change my address to theirs.

It’s the oldest DQ in Minnesota … lol. I used to live not far from there, east on Nebraska Ave, but closer to Lake Phalen. But that was almost 30 yrs ago

I also saw that you live near Como Park….. as a kid we made several trips from Iowa to the old Met to watch the Twins and every time we went we would also go to Como Park to see the gorilla at Como Park Zoo! Great memories!

My father had a similar timeline; he was a reconnaissance pilot in a P-38 slated to go to the Pacific. War ended, hence my family exists. His best friend was shot down and killed in Europe.

My dad was also in the AAC. He would have been deployed for the invasion. Tens of thousands more lives would have been lost had that invasion taken place. He was a lucky man. And, by extension, so am I.

My pop was in the Navy at the tail end of the Korean "Conflict". He was a firefighter on the aircraft carrier USS Bennington, which later on was used to recover the unmanned Apollo 4 capsule in 1967. May God bless all who served, and who serve.

We can't have 27 active on the roster though.

Can’t send down Kepler, right?  If they did would the Twins risk the chance of losing him?

My other grandpa was in Korea as well.  He was in the Army, but he doesn't talk about it so I unfortunately don't know much about his time there.
