Lots of time to make that decision.  Good problem to have.

I do think he'll get a Pineda-type contract (his first one with us) from someone. Just not sure it should be us.

As you say, that's a a November decision.

I was in the same room once with Prince, a few feet away. He was REALLY TINY!

I once tiptoed through the tulips with Tim.

Oddly he wasn't at all Tiny

I'll admit, I wasn't thrilled with the Gallo signing, but I'm warming to it. The guy HAS to be in the lineup. He can really thump it when he gets a hold of one. He can change a game with that power.

Wow, Stroman chased early. They bring in Rucker. Boom boom boom.

This is one of those...liberating games. I feel free, like it's okay now to walk away for awhile, because the team is so far ahead, they can't blow it that fast. Same thing really when they're behind by 8, too...

But I like this much better.

Whoops.

Now, I will say this: Varland may in some ways resemble Max Scherzer, but the latter doesn't tend to sail his heater up in the zone. Scherzer almost always works the lower half.

When I heard the Twins signed Gallo my reaction was somewhere between WTF? and Are they nuts? I sit corrected.

I think it's the happiest crow we Twins fans have eaten in quite some time. May turn out to be one of the best signings we've made with this FO

Yeah, but then he’ll strike out several games in a row and you’ll reverse your sitting 🙂

This. I don’t know why more don’t talk about this. I’ve been really impressed by his play at first so far this year and for as big guy, he can cover quite a bit in the OF

I hope he gets some Gold Glove love this season, if Arraez was a finalist Gallo should be even more so.

In the case of LAD, I'm fine if we lose this series, but win the second one against them.

After last season, I think winning 1/3 in LA this week would be a good result.

I would give him a Pineda like deal... why not. You can then move forward and plan as if he is not going to be there... and if he is great. He's clearly an above average SP when he's healthy and I would venture to say we haven't really seen him fully healthy yet.

You're the one who brought up dead people.

In response to you bringing up short people

Thats the problem.  We haven't seen him fully healthy.  Beginning  to look like never will.

If he continues to hit at roughly his career averages before the Yankees like he is now then I think it's a great signing. I just don't think Gallo can be one of your 2 thru 5 hitters. I actually like him at leadoff because he generally takes decent ABs and gets on base at a decent clip and then will go through stretches of pounding the ball into the seats. I think in that world it's good for him to get a lot of ABs so he can roll the dice a lot of times to make the most amount of hard contact. If you have a better option at leadoffs I like him at like the 7th spot where it's fine when he goes through his cold stretches. He gets on base even with his lack of contact more than other bottom the order players and so then the power is just gravy.

I think it really helps that he's a plus defender at 2 different positions and has that versatility.

But why not just give him a Pineda deal and have him in the mix to try. I would venture it's still a better likelihood than the majority of prospects. There's basically no downside and only upside. It's not going to cost a lot.
