Apparently the game happening some other day. I assume it is weather related,

Which is sad. We had 'em right where we wanted 'em! So trash talk to your hearts' content!

Also, you suddenly have the night free. Go play music, pick wild flowers, fold origami, watch a movie, read a book!

And we'll expect a full report...

I don't get exactly how games are called and why this one was called so early. Weather projections currently show clear skies in Chicago from 8pm to midnight. I hate 7 inning games.

Home team gets to decide on delays or postponements before first pitch. In this case, I bet Chicago wanted a day off after they played 13 innings yesterday, just like the Twins wanted Saturday off after the Friday bullpen game.

I don't know the Chicago weather today, but I wouldn't mind if the league took over the power to delay or postpone due to weather (or delegated it to the umpires, who have the power to delay once the game is underway).

Also, the Monday July 19 doubleheader would seem to favor the White Sox. They have an off day that week on Thursday July 22 while the Twins do not, and in fact the Twins already have a doubleheader a few days earlier (Friday July 16 in Detroit).

Also, it seems like it is hard to sweep a doubleheader? So a team like the White Sox, who just need to salvage some head-to-head splits to keep the Twins at bay, may not mind exchanging a single game for a doubleheader.

I agree with this.  I feel like MLB should install a room in their offices with a direct link to the meteorological equipment at all 30 parks.  Hire a couple of guys to monitor it, and give them the authority to delay or postpone.

Wnat's the punch line?

52. 26 from Chicago and 26 from Minnesota.

How many little leaguers does it take to play a 7 inning game?

I’d take that bet. Probably has a lot to do with the grounds crew and their assessment of the condition of the field. By the way it’s raining, supposed to rain til around 10:00

College World Series finals, game 1.

Even though Vandy got gifted the final birth because the NCAA declared the NC State game a no-contest because of CIVID protocol, they are a worthy participant.

Little League is 6 innings

Yes, thank you, and 7 inning MLB games is/are still...... Little League.

Forgive me for speaking metaphorically.

Are you near the stadium? Just curious, I don't see anything on radar over the stadium right now. There's some precipitation to the west but the "futurecast" has it largely breaking up by the time it gets near the stadium. ~50% chance of precip.

Here's a current webcam shot from the Field Museum, just a few miles NE:

I looked at the radar on the Weather Channel app

To be made up as a double header on 7/19, apparently.

Yes, today, the rain was brought, with easily to have foreseen consequences....

The whole week could be in peril ... supposed to rain/t-storm the next couple of days ...

I'm not sure what forecast you were looking at, but clear skies is not part of it ... we had a thunderstorm roll through around 3 this afternoon, with continuing rain off and on since then ... it's currently cloudy and wet outside with more t-storms on the horizon. As I just posted above, the whole week is in question.

Lol ... okay ... so ... not only is the Field Museum NE of the stadium, that view is looking north and the stadium is west and south of there  ... notice the clouds moving in? Yeah ... those gray ones on the left (from the west)? It's crappy here.

You mean it’s not a conspiracy?

I should get out my phone, stand out on my balcony and start taking pics for proof! Too late now as it's completely dark out

I thought as much, and I’m no where near Chicago. Home teams need to keep control of whether the game should be played or not. MLB making those decisions from New York? What could possibly go wrong.

Well Reusse column this morning may have to be reprinted in the Chicago Tribune! He didn’t pull any punches.

Exactly what Reusse said; he speaks truth in his column. Baseball is a mess right now and there is a vacuum of leadership. I thought Peter Ueberoth or Bud Selig were bad but the current situation is dire. The rainouts called in Minneapolis Saturday and today in Chicago are egregious examples.

I don’t think it’s a conspiracy, and I have no doubt the weather is kind of crappy there as it has been here, but I am guessing they may have attempted to play in these conditions on other days, just like the Twins on Saturday. It’s natural for biases to come into play. I doubt LaRussa or any manager or front office just defers the decision entirely to some weather watcher.

And the league wouldn’t have to do it centrally from New York either — they could contract with local weather services in each city. Give them the drainage parameters of each field and a weather station at the ballpark, if there isn’t one already. That would still be local and more objective than a team manager or FO.

We had some pretty horrific weather over the weekend with a lot a lot of rain and flooding ... the ground is pretty saturated, not to mention the rain we got on top of that today and were predicted to get. Yes, there were some breaks in the rain ... but the photo you posted, you can clearly see the start of gray clouds moving in from the west ... that one snip didn't tell the whole story by a long shot. I live here ... and the weather was awful all weekend. And given the time the game was called, I wasn't in the least surprised. However, it's not projected to be much better through the week, they might have been smart by trying to fit the game in today. We'll see.

The way they sit players for "rest" and call games off like this.... is total disregard for the fans that come to see them. Plus when a team just gives up and has someone like Astudillo pitch. Total disregard for the product. The NBA does it all the time, too.

So the whole "phantom rain" pp'd game from Falvine on Saturday - the one where it didn't rain and the Twins ppd it so that Maeda could pitch in the Sox series - didn't need to be postponed after all. Hope the Twins front office has some special make-up nifty gifties for the fans that went on Saturday, especially the kids.

I read that Reusse article from yesterday, that was really rotten.
