Game Thread "The Odyssey 2*" Twins at White Sox 7:10pm cdt 5/12/2021

Opening scene: Old man (played by Nelson Cruz) with an oar on his shoulder shuffling down the road.

 

Twins fan catches his forelorn eye, waves and says, "is that a fan on your shoulder, or are you just happy to see me?" and an expressionof great relief crosses the oldman's face...

 

Summary (i am too lazy and the game approaches) Odysseus (Cruz) is on the run from the law due to slaughtering all his wife's suitors, has to take care of hia family in hiding and still make good on his promice to expand poseidon's realm, whne he hears some of his band survived their travels butare caught by crazy dangers. Join us as Cruz teaches Sano how to check his swing, Kepler how to beat the shift, saves Astudillo from vultures, and brings Buxton back from the realm of Hades.

Boy, it isn't hard to see why the White Sox are so far ahead of us when you look at the 2 lineups. And that doesn't even count the differences in the two bullpens. Oh well, at least it's good to see Kepler playing CF and Garlick in the lineup instead of Cave even if I'd rather see Larnach in there somewhere.

Lefty on the mound tonight, which is 100% the reason why Garlick is even on this roster. He needs to start these games or be waived because he’s just taking up a roster spot at that point.

I hear you and Garlick is actually hitting against LH pitching. I also realize that there isn't really any other place to play Larnach unless we sit Arraez or one of Polanco, Donaldson or Simmons and move Arraez into the infield.  Still, we need to evaluate Larnach as an every day player so I'd like to see him play against LH pitching some times. This may not be the right game but but I would like to see Larnach in the lineup against a LH starter on days when we rest Polanco, Simmons, Donaldson or Arraez.  Let's get him to the top of the list of players that we shoehorn into the lineup for the next 2-3 weeks so we have a good handle on where he is when Kirilloff hopefully comes back. That's important information in making playing time decisions between these guys down the road.

Speaking of which, any word on when Kirilloff will return?

Good lord, the Twins continue to embarrass themselves. I keep thinking "today's the day" but it just never comes. They look awful, every single night and we're already at it again.

Wow, game already over? I'm in LA so it's only 5:30. I have dinner plans later, thank God, so I can only watch the first couple of innings. Or the way this is going, the first inning or two.

I hate to say it, but we're all thinking it:

Twins won't get another baserunner past 1st base until the 6th inning, by then it'll be 7-1.

Another 9-3 loss more likely than not. We should all probably stop watching now.

The first three guys didn’t hit the ball hard.  The next three did, so I guess two runs is about right. I don’t know if the Twins will score three in nine innings.

At least Polanco is starting to look like his old self at the plate. Average up to .252 with some more pop the last week. Of those that are flailing at the plate, I have the most confidence in him to return to his prior self.

And Yessss! Sano strikes out. We'd all like to see him get back to himself but this is so hard to watch. He is just clueless up there. Does anyone think there's any chance he would agree to go down to AAA and rebuild his swing? Is there a hitting coach he trusts somewhere we can hire to work with him? This is not working.
