Larnach is probably due for a tune up and confidence boost in St. Paul for a couple weeks. Hopefully Gordon gets ample playing time now to decide whether to keep him or not for 2022 and beyond.

Okay, does anyone know who got on the plane to NY in place of Thorpe? It is possible that the Twins will take a couple of fresh arms from St. Paul. They do have one 40-man roster spot open, correct?

Their game just ended in extra innings, so it's hard to say who it will be.

Yes one open spot. They should have a few extras on the plane anyways since they have a taxi squad up to 5 players.

Andrew Albers and Kyle Barraclough have been called up, Thorpe to IL and Garcia optioned. They will need to open a 40 man spot, but that won’t be hard.

Well, not the two I would've called up but at least they haven't pitched for a few days. Barraclough hasn't pitched since Saturday. Albers threw 8 shutout innings on Sunday. Both shoudl be able to provide innings this weekend when we are going to need them.  It will be interesting to see if they give Albers a start.

Not very exciting but both have been pitching pretty well at AAA.

Too bad Strotman last threw on Tuesday.  Since he's already on the 40-man, it would have been a great opportunity to get his feet wet.

We really don’t need to see Albers again, but…….

i suppose once Albers  pitches, he’ll be designated for assignment, but I’d like to see someone else.

Interestingly, not one AWFUL team wanted to take a chance on him....

I would rather see Hamilton, Vasquez, Mason, Moran or Cano. Albers would give them some length maybe.

Mason they advanced to AAA to see if they need to add him or not. He's been struggling a bit (shades of the late Tom Hackimer who was in a similar situation). I now fully expect that Vasquez will also get a shot. He's only 27!

 

I doubt Cano will get a call this season. He won't even be eligible for the Rule 5. I wonder if he will pitch in the Fall league, or play winter ball somewhere.

Barraclough was drafted by the Twins waaaaay back in 2011, but didn't sign.

I believe the taxi squads were disbanded once the minor leagues started.

Teams are able to use them. Much like last year they do not have to disclose who are on them. Also AAA rosters were expanded to 28, and the taxi squad is considered part of their roister so a AAA roster can be as high as 33 players.

Why am I not surprised no one picked up a guy who can barely throw 90 and whose secondary's aren't that great.  He doesn't K a lot of guys and has a WHIP of 2 in MLB play.  Well the Twins have him for as long as they want him now because no one is taking this guy in Rule V either.  Yeah no big deal to take a flyer but the upside play is so low it hardly seems worth the trouble.

I was wondering why the Saints always seemed to have 30+ players active on the roster all season. Used to be that it was tighter rosters for the minors so everyone played more often...few bench players.

Sano was put on the paternity list, and Edgar Garcia was called back up again. I've lost count of the number of relievers on the team now.

Actually, since 2021 is his 7th pro season, Burrows will be eligible for minor league free agency after the season (assuming he is not placed back on a 40-man roster by then).

If Maeda is placed on the IL as sounds likely, who gets brought up to take his spot in the rotation?

 

Not to dampen speculation, but i saw Dobnak started a rehab assignment, so he may eventually take a spot, although he probably needs to be stretched out...

Sano has taken Maeda’s spot, coming off his paternity leave. They’ll need another starter unless the commit to giving Gant more starts.

Jorge Alcala activated, Ian Gibault called up. Kyle Barraclough and Edgar Garcia optioned.

Also just breaking byron Buxton will be activated and start tonigh. No corresponding move yet.

Garver has a back strain, perhaps it could just be a 10 day issue. Tortuga seems to be in line to back up Jeffers since Rortvedt wasn't called upon.
