twins4121 Provisional Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Word is the Twins have expressed interest in both infielders... Out of the two which would you prefer?
whydidnt Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 They are both horrible. Very depressing that this is the best they are willing to do. At least Inge is a decent fielder, but really, why bother with these rejects?
beckmt Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 None of the above, Why hold back prospects/suspects if 2013 is going to be a see what we have year.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Since I have vowed not to post negative thoughts on this site for a month, I'll just post that I would love it if the Twins got better through FA this year. That would be cool.

Rosterman Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Would you be wiling to have these guys replace anyone of the current 40-man roster? That is the decision to be made...now. Yes, you could slide out a few of the pitchers (DeVries, Wood, Roeincke) or deep-six Butera, or maybe give up on Benson. But suddenly the cart is full, the only space is on the runner underneath. Plouffe would be no worse or better than Inge at the moment. Betancourt or Carroll, one is the other. Unless the Twins free up space and trade, say, Swarzak or forget about the Rule 5 guy, their roster is currently set (sorry minor league invite guys). Everyone is hoping someone opens the season on the 60-day disabled list.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Hey! These are some guys! .......
Shane Wahl Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I swear if they sign either one of them . . . . If I had to choose, I would choose Inge for a variety of reasons. But this is just so idiotic if they sign either one of them.

Gogogadgetmark Provisional Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Inge because he could be our emergency catcher instead of having Butera on the roster
glunn Community Moderator Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 I agree with the majority here -- the Twins should avoid these guys so that they have more room to develop prospects.
bdhenders Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Inge because he could be our emergency catcher instead of having Butera on the roster Great point! I vote for Inge. We're going to need stellar defense to make these pitchers look average. I don't want to cut into Plouffe's playing time until he proves he can't do it, though. So, Inge as a late inning replacement and 3rd catcher would be better than Butera. TR did say he wants competition for Plouffe, so I could see this happening. I don't think we have any young 3rd baseman in the system that could be brought up. Does anyone have suggestions?
Benchwarmerjim Verified Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 the last time Inge was a catcher was 2008. Its like saying a team should sign Michael Cuddyer because he is a great option to be a backup 3B
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 Word is the Twins have expressed interest in both infielders... Out of the two which would you prefer? Wait, when did Chone Figgins go off the market??
jokin Old-Timey Member Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 +1 Bret Boone, Tony Batista and Brian Buscher are also available and Ryan knows those guys pretty well too... Why aren't we at least, at a minimum, talking about Kelly Johnson? Eric Chavez signed for $3M, which means Johnson should be available for less than that number, right?
Oldgoat_MN Verified Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Kelly Johnson did have an OBP of over .300 in 2012. That sets him apart on this list.
lee_the_twins_fan Provisional Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Really??? Why are we even considering either one? I guess Inge would be the better defender at 3B - better than Plouffe, but I think we use Carroll *as the 3B backup. If we need to sign either one, we offer only a minor league contract with an offer to Spring Training. Make it a competition.
lee_the_twins_fan Provisional Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 I'd rather see Ray Olmedo get a shot to compete with Plouffe for 3B.
old nurse Verified Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 +1 Bret Boone, Tony Batista and Brian Buscher are also available and Ryan knows those guys pretty well too... Gardenhire knows Phil Mankowski. Maybe Mankowski has got something left. Gardenhire has been around so long maybe he can dig up Traynor to play third.
nicksaviking Community Moderator Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Neither interest me unless were talking about managerial candidates once Gardenhire gets fired for losing with the pre-Kelly Leake Bad News Bears. Than I'd give Inge an interview.
drjim Provisional Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 If Inge could still serve as emergency catcher, the Twins could probably do worse than him as a bench player. Still a very solid defensive 3B (and can play other positions in a pinch) and provides a little RH pop which has value at Target Field.
twinsnorth49 Old-Timey Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-sick007.gif......do I have to choose?
Top Gun Provisional Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 BORING! I would sign Marcum. Why even bother if you can't sign one good pitcher?
Rosterman Verified Member Posted January 7, 2013 Posted January 7, 2013 Hey, we can add Orlando Hudson, Jason Bartlett and Chone Figgins. 2B/SS/CF....right up the middle taken care of. Bring in Kyle Lohse as the #1 starter. Have Delmon Young as DH and bench bat. Man, we're getting a team together...let's play us some real baseball!
lecroy24fan Verified Member Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Adam Kennedy so we could get the (rally) monkey off our backs and into the World Series!
johnnydakota Verified Member Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 Adam Kennedy so we could get the (rally) monkey off our backs and into the World Series! Freddy Sanchez? Kennedy hasnt been hurt enough .
bdhenders Verified Member Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 What's option 3? Are there any other options that you haters would suggest? Is there anyone in the minors you can think of? I'm just wondering what TR will do to find "competition for Plouffe", which he has said he wants to have. Will we just end up with Jamey Carroll as the only competition?
