I take it he didn't get to pitch the bottom of the 9th as he took a 1-0 loss... and didn't allow more than 3 baserunners? Oe was it rain shortened? Or are you considering the Twins' lead off hitter the #1 leadoff hitter, and it was Mussina's perfect game? Or the leadoff hitter fot taken out. Or maybe it was rain shortened? Um... i give up.
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Author Posted August 4, 2020 You can see why people are high on Alcala...if he can figure out where his fastball is going he will be good. Also, feels like we are down 10-0, not 4-0...COME ON BATS
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Twins gonna learn pretty quick that you can't face major league teams with minor league pitchers and expect to win, no matter how good your offense is. What has Lewis Thorpe ever done to make anyone believe he's nothing more than a mop-up guy at best?what offense?

Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Author Posted August 4, 2020 How to shut down the Twins offense 101: 1. Throw a soft tossing lefty2. ???3. Profit
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Cool!I take it he didn't get to pitch the bottom of the 9th as he took a 1-0 loss... Lost 2-0 ... almost took a perfect game into the 8th
sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Buxton! This has been a test of your Buzton Baserunning Alert System. If there had been actual baserunning, this further information would be forthcoming.

What has Lewis Thorpe ever done to make anyone believe he's nothing more than a mop-up guy at best?Agreed. I've never been a huge Thorpe fan, although I know many have/still are. He doesn't have a great fastball and his offspeed stuff doesn't really have swing and miss in it. Even if you are facing a poor offensive team, it doesn't matter. They're still MLB hitters.

sampleSizeOfOne Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Lost 2-0 ... almost took a perfect game into the 8thCool. Sorry i wasn't paying so good attention. I just remember that Jeter was #2 and i think he lead off...
LVTwinsfan Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 As long as our score stays at zero, we cannot blame our pitching
Mill1634 Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Author Posted August 4, 2020 Alcala with a much better 6th inning...this guy is a future weapon in the bullpen
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Alcala looked much better out there the second inning. He has what it takes to blow hitters away, just needs time to work on his command. I have faith he will be a key part of the bullpen at some point, likely not 2020 though.
bighat Verified Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Silver lining is certainly Alcala - might be the lead item on the hometown blogs unfortunately. Soft-tossing lefties really give this team trouble. It's crazy, seems like it's been that way for the past two seasons.
DocBauer Old-Timey Member Posted August 4, 2020 Posted August 4, 2020 Thorpe has better stuff than that. We've seen it in the minors and we've seen glimpses of it in the majors. I don't know, looked to me he was aiming everything and pitching nervous. Very impressed by Alacala though. Bad walk and bad WP, but otherwise threw some nasty stuff and settled down. Kid's got a future!
