Would you attend a game right now?

Agree, 100%. People themselves are more most able and best suited to determine their OWN level of risk, with COVID exposure or anything else in life.  Assess your own situation, and take the appropriate precautions and measures to do the right thing for yourself and others.  And yes, I have yet to know a single person or anyone that knows anyone that has had it.

It's time to move on

Four people in my family have it right now. A cousin and her husband (I suppose their kids probably have it too then) and my grandma and her boyfriend(?). Known the guy my whole life and still don't know what to call him, always feels weird to call a grown man a boyfriend. Life partner, I guess?

And those are all four confirmed tests, not just exposures/expected cases. Anyway, you and KFEY93 can no longer say you are yet to know anyone that knows anyone who's had it.

Moderator note:

I want to caution everyone here to be careful about being publicly blasé about COVID-19. If you have assessed your own risk level to be low, great. Want to go to a game? Great. Don’t know anyone or have family who have/had it? Greatest yet. But your comment ‘Time to move on’ is thoughtless when there could be people here who have lost loved ones from this so please be more thoughtful.

I would probably go if they sat fans in every other row at the aisle. Not quite comfortable with people sitting next to or behind me.

I think with a mask and others masked I would be comfortable. That seems to be something that works

I don’t think most fans would go if they had to wear a mask.

An awful lot of people won’t wear one for 20 minutes at the grocery store. Getting them to wear one for 3 hours? Good luck.

I would go if the stadium was at 50% capacity or lower. Notably we do the Twinspass, so we have general admission/standing room tickets anyway, so if we do sit down it's not next to people.

For what it's worth, I have had (limited as far as time, but close proximity) contact with multiple persons who tested positive for Covid-19 and I didn't get Covid. I also know a few people who have had it.

Okay?  No doubt about it, if we expand it out to my third cousin's former roommate's best friend, we're going to connect sooner or later.

Not sure if that really changes anything I commented on but thanks for the response.  For sure, if you're a high risk individual or are near one, you should be taking precautions.  Or if you're just uncomfortable with that level of risk, I would act accordingly.

To the OP, as many others have stated as well, I would go to a game right now, without question.  Not trying to pick a fight with anyone, just offering my opinion.

I would if they were limited it to 50%. But how do they sell seating. Cab't be general seating. I would bring my own food, distance myself from otehrs, have my own seat sanitizer. It can be done. Just would limit interaction in any way. Arrive early, eiethr leave early or late. Biggest issues are shared surfaces (railings) and food and sanitation. Wearing a mask. Not rubbing eyes or mouth is difficult for long periods of time.

I think you are right but why do you think that is?  I am baffled by that. It seems like such a simple fix. I was quarantined in Europe for 2 months and everyone wore a mask. We could have most things open, like stadiums, with just a minor inconvenience.

First, "Covid is serious, wearing masks keeps OTHERS safe even if not specifically YOU the wearer and these are not scare tactics."

My question is, have you sat in the upper deck in left field during a day game that is hot out? I find it hard to believe people would or even be able to keep their masks on sitting there for 3 hours in the direct sun.(of course I am not even in the slightest way suggesting they should EVER take off their mask)

I would not pay any price to sit in the direct sun with a mask on to watch a MLB baseball game. I would choose to be in my air condition home watching the game on my TV (of course with my mask on)

It’s why this was an interesting question. We all assess our risk factors differently depending on age or experience and what expectation we have for the protocols imposed and/or practiced. Even though I’m older, and take COVID seriously, wear my mask, distance, wash/sanitize my hands, etc., I miss baseball that much, that it would get serious weight into going to a game. That said, I would keep my mask on, and if it became too difficult to do so, or it became too crowded, or too many others not following protocols, I’d probably leave and learn an expensive lesson that next time maybe I should just watch from home. Until we are actually faced with that decision, though, not sure what I’d actually do. It all depends. But getting to a game on public transportation in this era of COVID, is an even bigger factor for me. Day game, I bike, easy decision; night game? Trains post-game are very crowded. Guess I could drive, but that seems so silly to pay hefty parking fees when I’m 2.5 miles away. (I live in near South Chicago, btw, and am referring to attending games here, when and if they are played.)

One of my best friends lives in Chicago. He has been telling me Chicago has been much more strict on wearing masks than the western suburbs of Mpls. Most places I go less than 50% are wearing masks.

His wife is in the medical field and says there have been a few people coming into the doctor with heat stroke/exhaustion because they have been out in the direct sunlight for too long with masks that don't breathe very well. (he didn't tell me what "too long" meant, I asked)

She said if you are out in direct sunlight to make sure you are getting enough liquids and if you feel dizzy or lightheaded you probably should either get out of the sun and do something to cool your body down (even if that means removing your mask) making sure to continue social distancing.

The first few years of Target field I had season tickets in the first row in upper left field. and on many occasions seen people pass out from the heat. I can only imagine it would be worse if you have people wearing masks and sipping beers from a straw.

Yeah, being out for too long in direct sunlight isn’t a good thing, either way, but more so with masks on. And yeah, keep hydrated, either way!

Chicago has been fairly strict, but then, being in a dense urban area, we have also been hit fairly heavily. You can’t even go into stores without them. But then, as I was grocery shopping last week (I go once a week, no more), once inside, people remove them and evade employees. I get needing to take them off when sitting outside and in the hot sun for three hours, but less than an hour in an air conditioned store not in the sun? Hmmm ... I usually just get in and get out as quickly as I can, shopping early on weekday mornings, when fewer people are there. I’m actually less worried for myself in all of this, but take precautions for others around me. Going to a game, I’d be the same ... unless and until it becomes either too uncomfortable or too compromising for me. Again, weighing the risks ... I also live in a condo building and have very elderly neighbors to either side of me, plus we have fairly strict in-building rules, so I’m just getting used to the routine at this point.

Don't disagree with you, but until WAY more people believe wearing a mask is helpful and not just something the elites are telling people to do, it is going to be super hard to have herd peer pressure to get the others to follow suit. People might not like that statement or will disagree with the next but it is going to be super hard to convince the anti-mask wearers to follow suit until the media and others are consistent with the message.

Stay healthy and hopefully the people that live in your building do as well.

No way would I goto a game right now. Cheap tickets and 25% capacity would be tempting but you'd still run into lots of people in the concourses that a) don't have masks on B) don't even try to social distance. And part of the charm of going to a game at Target Field is having a beer or two and sampling the food. If you couldn't stay away from people, I would not go.

Until our fearless leaders promote and start wearing a mask, the people that follow them won't wear a mask.

No. I went to a winery on Saturday......no one followed the distancing rules that were set up. I can't imagine anyone would at a MLB game either.

At some  point, I'll have to get out and do more things, because life. But I'm not currently at a point where I am going to put myself into that position for 3 hours......

Why would you wear a mask in your home?

I was told by the owners of the site "wearing masks keeps OTHERS safe" and that is "TD's position and it is not up for debate"

So I didn't want to be told that I was suggesting not wearing a mask is a choice.

Our leaders who are truly fearless do wear masks. It's the leaders who don't wear masks because they are fearful of what their supporters would think that have me worried.
