I think you are right but why do you think that is? I am baffled by that. It seems like such a simple fix. I was quarantined in Europe for 2 months and everyone wore a mask. We could have most things open, like stadiums, with just a minor inconvenience.
-
I think with a mask and others masked I would be comfortable. That seems to be something that works

I think most of you have no idea how many real people with families make do on a similar amount of money. Minimum wage of $8 an hour gives you 320 a week. No benefits. Before I feel sorry for able young men pursuing a dream of riches and glory, we need to fix a system where a full time working parent can't support their family. I put myself through university making less than this. Most of these guys are that age. How much SHOULD they expect to make?
-
Arraez is certainly not a surprise or some out of nowhere success. He has been the best pure hitter in the Twins Minor League system since he hit .348 in 2014. In his last 3 stops he hit .347 at Cedar Rapids, .320 at Fort Meyers and .342 at Pensacola. What we are seeing is who he is and has been. Still though, this year is all about who has options. Now that the Twins have depth, they will have more of these "good" problems .. more than 25 players who could be on the roster. But I bet he will get significant time at Target field this season.

I believe you win when you have guys that are better than the other team. Particularly when they are vastly superior. Sano is one of those guys who can do things other people can't. Buxton is another. They are just better athletes than the rest of the league. This almost makes their stats meaningless because they are the definition of outliers. At any moment they can do something ridiculous. ( see - Buxton throw Tuesday) I think it is time for Sano to be back with his guys on the team and working with these coaches in this winning atmosphere. His time has come.
-
Considering the flak received by the FO for not making changes, this is quite a roster. Eight guys who have never played for the Twins and another 6 that were late second half additions. Only 11 of these guys were on the opening day roster last year. Of the 8 new guys, I think Cruz, Pineda, Cron and Gonzales will be among the best players. Perez, Parker and Schoop could be solid and Harper is the feel good story guy. I think with Buxton leading the way this will be a very fun team to follow.

Such a strange situation. . The Geek says we have too many relievers and it would hurt to cut one. Gleeman says we must sign another relief guy so thereby cutting two of our favs. What a conundrum

Twins Payroll Really is Resource Allocation
wagwan replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Simple stats, but the Twins are actually very close to the median payroll of $108 million. What we have here is the teams that will be in the playoffs again,Red Sox, Yankees, Dodgers and Cubs spending almost twice as much as the rest of the league. So median is what to look at. The Twins are right in the middle so they can expect to compete for that 2nd wild card if things break right and have a 1 game playoff season.- 80 replies

I agree with the LEN 3 description. I think he goes to fewer Twins games then most regular fans. I don't live in the Twin Cities so I don't listen to local radio, but he only seems to write a couple times a week. Mike produced more stuff in his time with the Twins than anyone and I have been reading the paper since 1961.

yeah based on the early season struggles of Rooker and Morrison I'd say it's time to renew Mauer's contract.

Will Congress Screw Minor League Players Today?
wagwan commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Guess what we get to do today Brooks.... we get to play baseball" - The Rookie It's not a job. It's baseball. They are young men in their 20's living their dream. "Career minor league" guys stop at 30. Then they move on. Should there be more money? I guess. But I'm a teacher. Should I get more money? Sure. But I know that there isn't more money to be had. Nobody is getting rich running a minor league team. If more people paid to watch minor league baseball the players would get more money. Most sports are that way. I wrestled in college. Nobody pays to watch amateur wrestling. When I was 21 I would have loved to spend the summer playing ball. These guys get a uniform, having fans in the stand and enough money for a kid. Sounds like paradise to me. -
Will Congress Screw Minor League Players Today?
wagwan commented on Steven Buhr's blog entry in SD Buhr/Jim Crikket
Although I believe that minor league ballplayers should get more money, they are being paid minimum wage. $1200 a month is about $7.50 an hour. They at least have a shot at a big payoff. Meanwhile many people in the U.S. will be making that salary for many years to come and trying to support a family too. I will save my angst for them and hope congress will help those people by raising the minimum wage. And since the first 10 rounds of the draft receive a bonus to sign, at least 25% of the players have got something already to fall back on. -
I don't think you can have 4 starters and 12 relief pitchers on a 25 man roster. You must mean 8 or 9 relief guys.Or 12 pitchers in total

Why The Twins May Opt For Short-Term SP Commitment
wagwan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
7 years 175 million is less than Mauer's contract , and his is 8 years old. There is more money to be had by the Twins especially if they win. 23 mill a year for Mauer is 23% of a Hundred mill team payroll. 25 mill for a year for Darvish is only 18% of a 135 million payroll. The money will come back to the team easily if they make a big statement AND if they win. I have been back and forth on this but right now I think they should go for it. Darvish will have at least three great years in him. Why not try to win? -
Why The Twins May Opt For Short-Term SP Commitment
wagwan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
But it is so much more than a business. It is a social contract with a community. -
Although there are a few days left until this gets decided, it doesn't look like there will many decisions to make. If you assume that the Twins are adding a starter(Darvish), and they are done adding relief pitchers, twenty four spots are pretty set. I went back and looked at last year's opening day roster and I think 2018 matches up very favorably. Seven pitchers and two bench players will be different, and I contend they are to a man an upgrade.Let's take a look; 2018 2017 Darvish (or other) Santana Santana Santiago Berrios Hughes Meija Meija Gibson Gibson Rodney Kintzler Reed Belisle Duke Breslow Hildendberger Tonkin Rogers Rogers Pressly Pressly Hughes? (only open spot) Duffey Haley Castro Castro Mauer Mauer Dozier Dozier Polanco Polanco Sano Sano Rosario Rosario Buxton Buxton Kepler Kepler Grossman Grossman Escobar Escobar Garver Gimenez Adrianza D. Santana Granite Not bad upgrades in one year. Makes me feel pretty good about this season

One Year In, Rebuilt Twins Front Office Is Crushing It
wagwan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
To repeat what has been said several times...the Twins have the money to do both extend their young stars AND make a splash in the free agent market. I'm betting they do both too. A bat, a starter a reliever and extensions . It's a good time to be a Twins Fan. -
