Such an excellent post.  I have something to add:

If anyone wants to buy a subscription to the Washington Post it costs $39 dollars for a year. With that you can get entry to the most accurate statistics on police violence. By any standard the Washington Post is a liberal media outlet so it doesn't support any conservative agenda. According to the statistics compiled by the Washington Post (which began in 2015) number has dropped.

I have an honest question. Does anyone know how many unarmed people the police killed last year?
I know the number. Has anyone actually bothered to find the data? It cost me a $39 dollar subscription to the Washington Post.

 

Why these numbers are not readily available? I wonder why when I search the internet for this information it is so damn hard to find?   This is information that EVERYONE should know

There were 41 unarmed people killed by the police last year. We can't assume none of them were a threat, nor can we assume no cops were charged.  Out of all of those 41 unarmed people killed by police 10 were African Americans.

 

This is data compiled by the Washington Post.  They have been compiling data since 2015 (after the Michael Brown killing).  Since that time the number of unarmed African Americans killed by police has been cut in half.

Sad but true and yet not quite genocide.  89 cops were killed in the line of duty.  I wonder what the race of the offenders were.  There seems to be no access to that data and there should be

As I already explained, you're just engaging in "whataboutism" which isn't worth responding to. Every time someone explains to you why you're wrong, you shift the goal posts and say "but what about ..." 

 

I think you've posted enough that everyone understands where you're coming from.

Would you defend the SS who were killed during WWII? Or speak about how their lives matter and their rights? Police are not a minority group, you’re not born police. You’re not a son or daughter of 400 years of systemic racism if you’re a police officer. Your obtuse nature in this is sad and is based on racism or just plain ignorance?

Yes, I think the rest of us would like to discuss George Floyd and how to improve our country's racial inequality. I think it would be best if everyone refrains from posts trying to derail the thread from that direction.

That seems crazy to think it could become possible, and though I don't know how I actually stand on that idea, I'd be really curious to see how it played out should the city give it a try. Man, that would open up a lot of money to invest in improving the lives of low income families.

To say to me that I would defend SS?  Look at the people I have spoken for in my last two links and there is a whole lot more where that comes from.

 

And oh by the way, I say go after the white people first when people are out after curfew.  Trying to paint me as a racist because you don't like that I want the violence to die down??

The entire protest is based on police brutality and yet after 10 pages no one actually put up the numbers.  I did and somehow that doesn't fit in to the conversation?

Yeah, that was awful. I mean I can acknowledge that it was a year ago, but it's also hard to see what has changed for him except now a year later he's an NFL QB which surely qualifies him as a "Elite white people". I'd like to think he has new role models as teammates who can help him truly understand the meaning of poor decision, but it's not like the University of Georgia, in particular the football team, wouldn't have been able to do the same.

WTH?! Craig has spoken plenty of times. He does not need me to stand up for him, but he speaks quite clearly, often cites intriguing or interesting articles, and pushes the narrative. Challenging for high-level discourse should be something we all strive for rather than working toward consistently divisive language and attacking a fellow poster.

I see both the Minneapolis Public School District and the Minneapolis Park Board are severing ties to the MPD.

University of Minnesota did almost immediately after the incident. I can find many things to be upset at my alma mater about, but that is one thing done well.

perhaps... hopefully with the chief losing his job. He's been on the job for 3 years. One would think there would be some culture change right now given that he took over because of the shooting of Justine Dammond... 

 

As it was Chauvin, with his 17 or 18 excessive force accusations was supposedly training 2 of the other guys charged in this case. I'm not sure what to think about that if said lawyer's claim is true, but the buck stops at the top. I know there's a complication there with the union, but they don't determine things like that.

There's a lot of confusion with the police union. I know that the city refused to pay for combat training but the union paid for it instead.

 

I won't exempt the chief but they're dealing with a bucket of bull**** in the union, which is quite awful.

 

Unions are supposed to protect their own. Unfortunately, in the police union's case, they've also found a way to dictate policy toward civilians and have steadfastly protected their worst people.

It's something we should all be against.
