Keith Law's top 100 prospects

I like others more than Klaw but he's not an idiot. He writing style absolutely rubs people the wrong way and he's decided that's what he wants. So be it. I don't even know where he writes at anymore so I can go on without him in my life.

I'm glad he's out there - he's a good voice on prospects - but he doesn't seem like a good guy in a field that generally seems pretty full of good guys.

The best part is that he has spent much of the last year complaining about how toxic social media is when he built his entire brand on being the snarky guy who would call people idiots for not agree with his opinions on prospects.

Except for BA (#45), other prospect rankings have Larnach in the 80s, which is a very small difference compared to, say, #120.

What I like about Law's rankings is that he doesn't succumb to group-think. It's not very illuminating to ready the same opinion in 3 different places.

Despite just missing the top 100, Law seems to be pretty high on Duran, after having previously seen him as a reliever.

I mean, if I had a follow-up piece to the original one that was drawing attention and ire, I might tease the follow-up rather than telling people off. But that's just me. What do I know?

As long as there's a follow-up then he was 100% justified in being a dismissive jerk to people that pay to read his work.

In his defense he's been doing both the prospect list and the list of those who just missed the cut for a decade or so, with a quick turnaround, if any readers don't know that it's on them. Besides let's not pretend that anything more than a small fraction of the twitter replies are valid criticism, rather just people complaining that their team's prospects got the shaft so why do they deserve replies? I'm not even the biggest Keith Law fan, but he is unusually open in engaging with people and even if you disagree with his methodology the guy isn't an idiot, he just grades people differently.

In outcomes for a player the lists miss all of the time.. In prdicting succes the results of these list past the top 20 are not very good.

Interestingly, Law has Larnach ranked seventh in the system. He cites his power the other way as a positive, but says he has a lumbering build limiting him to left field and an inability to pull the ball with authority.

That’s certainly an outlier view.

Yeah most places I read about Larnach stated he had the arm for right field.  I don't think any of them stated he was a great runner though so reading between the lines he likely wasn't going to be an elite defensive outfielder.  Typically you hide those types of guys in Left field.  So I can see how Law got there.  I don't know enough to know if pulling the ball is really an issue or not.

We are a bit spoiled with Kepler in right as he plays elite defense there and has some thump in the bat as well.  It is hard to find right fielders with all the skills he has.  Larnach can work in right but probably lacks range so best fit is likely left.

...maybe Law just doesn't like OSU.

I can get behind that, and it doesn't really matter which OSU we're talking about. Ohio State is the worst offender, but I also don't like the orange and black color scheme of the other OSU schools.

Very surprising to me why Larnach did not crack the top 100 considering making it all the way up to AA in his second season in the Twins organization and still put up great numbers

Madrigal didn't make Law's top 100 prospects. Maybe the problem isn't Larnach or Madrigal, maybe Law just doesn't like OSU.

The sisters at the Order of St. Ursalines will pray for his soul.

Law's system rankings came out today.

Twins: 15th

I think that sounds about right to me. I would obviously have us a tick or two higher but we don't have a ton of high end guys so we might be just out of the top 10. Still is a solid system and again I am biased but I think our system will outperform the analysts predictions.  Just need some of those guys in the 12 to 25 to up their game and I think we are top ten again.  I can see why he has us at 15 though.

Law has a low opinion of Larnach's future, so that's dragging down our ranking. I bet if he had Larnach ranked where other places had him ranked, we'd be up around 10th.

Agreed. There's a lot of hope and prayer guys in our system. I don't know about other systems but we seem to lack the really top end guys (the Buxton and Sano types). These things are always in motion. A big bounceback from Lewis, a healthy breakout season from Baddoo, Jeffers taking another step, and we can see the system jump the rankings again.

Yeah, I think the Law ranking reflects this. My guess is he'll be the low person as far as ranking the overall system, but only by a few slots. We should remember that he's not as excited about a number of our top guys compared to others: Lewis, Larnach, Balazovic, Duran, and Jeffers for sure.

We could really use some exciting breakout seasons, maybe especially from some IFA prospects like Urbina, Severino, Javier, Celestino, Rijo, Alcala, Rodriguez...much more hope than expectation however.

But yeah, there are so many hope and prayer guys in the system, so we're bound to have a few guys drawing the attention of the pundits.
