How about this idea for a trade

We need a starter for sure and could use a 3rd baseman to move Sano over to 1st. What would we have to give up to get Robbie Ray and Edwardo Escobar to Minnesota. Love Eskie and Ray being a left hander would fit in well. What would we have to give up? Something like Larnach, Thorpe and Gordon get it done or is that light?

He's certainly be a great 3B solution if our 1B plan is to move Sano. He's only owed $14.8 million over the next 2 years. Extremely doubtful that AZ has any interest in moving him for prospects. They're clearly not rebuilding after inking Bumgarner to the $85 million deal.

AZ seems to go "counter to expectations" more on the win-now side, though, no? Even when selling, trading Greinke at least saved them $53 mil (the bulk of Bumgarner's contract). Trading Goldschmidt netted them two immediate MLB starters, at catcher and in the rotation. They traded a top ~100 prospect at the deadline this year too, for Gallen.

 

I can't see why they would deal Escobar now, coming off a great year with 2 years at $7 mil each left on his contract, unless we way overpaid (either in top prospects or in talent from our MLB roster).

 

Ray is an interesting target, although I wonder if we'll be a good match (see the Goldschmidt return -- they may want more of an immediate contributor in return than the Twins are willing to give up?).

There's an interesting argument that, by signing Bumgarner, they actually increased the market demand for Ray...so that could be a reason.

It seems like there's an awful lot guys we are assuming are available with no evidence. Price is available. The rest of them probably only if we want to overpay.

Outside the box thinking.  Like it.  But I'm going right back into the "box" and saying I want Matthew Boyd for Christmas for Wes Johnson.  Alcantara intrigues me.  It's going to have to be a guy with "upside" that they can develop into a #2ish starter.
