Rays would accept Miguel Sano, Byron Buxton and Jose Berrios for Snell as well but that doesn’t mean you do it. Why trade away Graterol in a package of top prospects when theres a good chance Graterol is better than Snell NEXT YEAR, let alone future years. There’s 2 sides to any trade and trades must be fair on both sides

I also think Balazovic is the better pitcher but I’m not high on Snell. He had one good season but is injury plagued with elbow surgeries and has struggled with the ERA in the other years. I think he’s good enough that I would offer one of the top prospects in all of baseball (Kirilloff) along with a high upside guys like Celestino, and a guy that will help their team cheap in Thorpe

I would like to see the twins check in with Boston about David Price.  Boston is looking to shed salary and stay under the luxury tax.  We could probably get them to cover part of the contract and we able to trade for him for little to nothing if we pickup a decent amount of the contract.

Price is owed $96M over the next 3 years.  Considering Price's age, Boston better be willing to pick up a good portion of that if the Twins should even think about it.

I'd think Price is about a $20MM dollar a year player in this market. That means Boston would have to eat a third of the deal for the Twins to send "cash or a PTBNL".....

Charlie Morton is signed to a two year/30 million dollar deal with an option for 2021. Nick Gordon and Rosario for Morton? Do the Rays want Rosario? Appears to be a fair deal on baseball trade values.

I would add that Price was basically a league average pitcher last year. The peripherals remained pretty good, but the results weren't there. Not sure if that's aging or what, but he wasn't the same guy last year. I'd be hesitant to add someone like Price or Sale unless our analytics guys are zeroing in something easy to correct.

Once again, this trade doesn't make sense.  Dakota Hudson has a FIP nearly 5, doesn't strike anyone out and has a high WHIP.    This is all while facing a pitcher in the NL.   He wouldn't even get Rosario by himself and would need prospects included to get Rosario.

Maybe they think they can't win the east this year or get a WC spot after the yankees signed Cole? Rays have done stuff like this in the past. They have a bunch of young controllable star arms but not a lot of offense. Just speculating.

If the Rays backed down that easily, they would never have had the success they've had in that division. And even with the Yankees loading up, the division is still as weak as it's been in a while. And the wild card should be just as attainable as long as Boston, Cleveland, and Oakland don't add significant talent, which seems unlikely.

 

And if by "Rays have done stuff like this in the past" you mean trade a controllable top SP, that may not bode well for their trade partner -- the Rays did quite well in the Archer, Garza, and Price trades. They're certainly not exchanging Morton for spare parts and salary relief right now.

If they're trading him because they're waving the white flag, then they aren't going to want Rosario, as he only has 2 years of team control left.

People were talking about whether the Rays were trading Morton last year at the deadline, so I thought I'd throw it out there. The Rays were what, 15 games over .500 then? 

 

It'd be more of a salary dump than anything. I would trade them prospect position players for Morton if that's what they want.

I don't think Boyd is as good as last year showed but that's not that steep a price for him. I'd make that trade.

I think that's actually a very steep price for Boyd. He's 28 and just had his breakout year which was really first half heavy. He had an ERA well over 5 and a FIP to support it after July 1 and really got smashed by homers all season.

 

This suggests giving up our number 5 and 11 prospects. One being a highly regarded pure hitting outfielder and the other is a controllable pitcher who we may end up relying on in the rotation in the coming years. Littell is also a staple in the bullpen to start next year and looks like he has a great future. 

 

If you're giving up this much, it should be for a pitcher you're comfortable saying is better than Odorizzi for sure. Is Matthew Boyd that guy?
