I was worried we'd have a game like this. Zimmerman's ERA was low 3s in four August starts. Thought he was washed up, but no. Not today.

I haven't been much of a fan of Duffey for a few years now. But he's doing something differently. Disguising his pitches better, or maybe just having better command of both the fastball and curve, instead of just one. Whatever the reason, these batters are just guessing against him. That fastball taken for strike 3 says that Mercer was just befuddled.

I didn't mean you were incorrect about the timing.

 

As I understand it, if you add a guy to the 40-man, you have to add him to the active (25-man) roster at the same time. That would have meant sending someone down, and even though rosters expanded on Sept 1, that player could not return for 10 days. So the judgement seems to have been made to not go without one of the players they want, and plan to petition to add Brusdar if it comes to that.

 

I doubt they see Brusdar as crucial to the post-season hopes, at least not yet.

Eddie Rosario's not quite right, when on the run, is he? I thought for sure he'd catch that foul pop.

Is he hurting? I was at the Saturday and Sunday games and I was struck by how slowly and with bad jumps he went after balls. He was also playing unusually deep.

I stand in judgment of the Planet Fitness banner behind home plate. Or at least the spelling.

I know that editors ding me for including the extra 'e' in that word, but I have never understood how you get the soft 'g' sound without it. I feel like I need to pronounce it "Jud-guh-ment," spelled your way.

I don't think he's started a game since 2016, except for the technicality of being an Opener once or twice. I've watched him pitch since then for Rochester in Pawtucket, and believe me he wasn't befuddling any of those AAA hitters. Something has clicked for him.
