USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 MLB Rule 7.13 (2) Unless the catcher is in possession of the ball, the catcher cannot block the pathway of the runner as he is attempting to score. If, in the judgment of the Umpire, the catcher without possession of the ball blocks the pathway of the runner, the Umpire shall call or signal the runner safe. Notwithstanding the above, it shall not be considered a violation of this Rule 7.13 if the catcher blocks the pathway of the runner in order to field a throw, and the Umpire determines that the catcher could not have fielded the ball without blocking the pathway of the runner and that contact with the runner was unavoidable. You had that memorized??? USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 I'm not watching the game, so I just have to rely on you folks (gulp) to get a feel for the action. Was Sano's out at home close or clearly blocking? He was clearly out, but it was close, and a terrific throw right down the line past Sano, and a terrific catch by the catcher on a hop. Some of us feel the catcher may have been blocking the plate before he caught the ball. Paragraph two of the rule might come into play, though, as he was sort of moving to field the throw. USAFChief Twins Daily Contributor Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 Driving home today, I was stopped at a light and saw two hearses come through the intersection ahead of me. I thought that was a bit odd, but didn't think too much of it, until I saw, following the hearses, a somber guy walking a dog, and a couple dozen men trailing him. All were pretty clearly following the hearses. Well, I just had to know what was going on, so I followed them. When they got to the cemetary, I couldn't help myself...I went up to the guy walking the dog, and asked him was was going on. "Well, that's my wife in the first hearse." he said. "Oh, I'm terribly sorry. If you don't mind my asking, what happened?" "My dog bit her, and she died." "Oh that's too bad," I said. "And the second hearse?" "My mother in law," he said. "Same thing." I thought a bit, and asked "Can I borrow your dog?" "Get in line." Riverbrian, operation mindcrime, Blake and 3 others 6

Riverbrian Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 so... it’s a rule in name only? The only thing that could be questioned was if catcher James McCann... Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted August 20, 2019 Posted August 20, 2019 getting badly outmanaged...How so? Because the White Sox have scored five runs with seven baserunners? The squeeze was a nice play but the Sox have lucked into this lead. The Twins have outplayed them on the field by a considerable margin. Blake and SwainZag 2
