*Checks director* Abrams eh?

*Checks title* "Rise of the Skywalker"....awful lot like "Return of the Jedi"

I think I'll just watch Return of the Jedi and imagine better graphics.  You know, like Force Awakens.....

I prefer Johnson’s boldness over Abrams’ nostalgia but I have to give Abrams credit for adjusting on the fly. He deservedly caught hell for his portrayal of women in Star Trek. He adjusted by creating Rey.

I’m hoping he adjust yet again and tries to make a new film instead of regurgitating Lucas’ themes from the OT.

Rise of the Skywalker?  Does that refer to Kylo Rens inner Skywalker? Are there any other Skywalkers left?

And was that Snoke's laughter at the end?

I liked Johnson's movie much more.  I'm just bitter about Force Awakens.  Probably always will be.

I worry Abrams is going to be all nostalgia.... Give me a new group, don't live in the past. So much fan service.... It's what I liked about early GOT more than later. No sentimentality.

Wow, that sounds like I'm a cold guy....

It's not that, I just want a new story....

I will be very disappointed if it is Rey.....

My gut tells me the story will reveal how Palpatine was responsible for creating Anakin in his host mother with a certain plan in mind and that will pretty much sum up the title of the movie with some kind of shock and awe. I'm probably wrong, but what the heck.

Not a bad theory.

Actually, Lucas' original plan was for Anakin to be created by Palpatine (hence the "virginal birth") but was later discarded.

This is not an original idea.

I did not know that. I was only taking a guess. I don't think the original idea comment was necessary... it feels like an insult. But I know you are a very passionate Star Wars guy and I'll leave it at that.

Or think of it this way ... you had the same thought as Lucas ... gmta!

The more I think about this, the more I believe "The Rise of Skywalker" is not literal.

The beginning of the saga was about Palpatine's rise. I think this is a rise of good and the Skywalker name. Yes, Ben Solo will likely redeem himself but I think the theme is the rise of good after 40 years of (mostly) evil.

Anybody else see this yet? After reading the spoiler-free reviews (only 56% at Rotten Tomatoes), I was preparing myself for a letdown. But I thought it was excellent and am very happy with how Abrams ended the Skywalker saga.

I haven't seen it yet ... so please, if you are going to go the spoiler route, put a big ...

spoiler......

I both liked it and didn't like it. I liked it more than I didn't. But I know on future viewings the things that bothered me will bother me even more.....

Of the things beyond how much the nostalgia bugged me, the utterly useless knights of Ren (in all three movies) is the most disappointing, though probably not the most annoying. Why even introduce the idea of the knights if they are inept losers that do nothing and can't even keep track of people they are following in a city....

Saw it with the family today. Can't beat $6 per person with pizza and beer! I love the Star Wars universe. Now, I'm just wondering where they go from here.

I'd love to see a Darth Vader focused film. I'd love to see a Yoda trilogy. I'd love to see them build a new franchise. If there are any spin offs planned, they should do them soon. If they want to create a new story, they should space it out a few years to let the dust settle.
