Buxton and Romero shut down for the season

I know there were a lot of people who wanted to see Buxton shut down for the rest of the year and gain that extra year of service time.  Unfortunately, I think this is going to cause a major headache for the Twins front office.

Clearly Lavine knows they have one very upset player and agent on their hands.  It's moves like these that will come back to haunt the Twins if Buxton really turns it around.  If they try to sign him to an extension its gonna cost them a lot more.  The positive is that Buxton should be one motivated player.  The negative is that if I were him I would remember this for a long, long, long time...

This front office has not done a good job of ingratiating themselves with the clubhouse (unless your a Belisle type guy).  But hey, we got an extra year of service time from Buxton.  If that's supposed to be a good thing, how come it doesn't feel that way to me now after reading the article?

Any good will that existed between the F.O. and Buxton just got flushed down the toilet.

Penny wise and a pound foolish.

Maybe they don't want him to hit .150 again and trash his trade value even more, before they flip him in a package for an ace this off-season.

4 seasons: 1074 PA, .230/.285/.387, 79 OPS+, .298 wOBA, 84 wRC+, 31.7 K%

He had enough time to prove himself.  I'd rather see him be someone else's problem starting this off-season.

Most have failed to notice that Jake Cave has pretty much claimed the starting Center Field job. Cave's real production would seem to have more value than Buxton's potential production.

I agree but I'd rather see Cave play in LF or RF as he's a liability defensively in CF. He should be pushing Kepler for his job, or at least push Kepler to CF, where Max is decent.

The Twins should have just shut Buxton down after he went on the DL with the wrist injury recurrence. At that point it would have looked legitimate and could have been justified.

Many felt the same way about Hicks.

Not quite.  Buxton in a package can bring an ace.  Hicks was traded 1-1 for a AAA C.  Unless it was Ryan & Co.

I agree that Buxton is probably not happy with the situation. I doubt we’ll see a big rift over this. I didn’t get the sense from the article that there’s a huge storm brewing.

At this point, Byron still has to hit to get any arbitration bonus before even thinking of free agency. You could say that whatever extension the Twins offered in the off-season might be looking pretty good right now.

Does anyone know if Buxton will still have an option for 2019...could he start the season at Rochester?

Cave hasn't claimed anything other than a potential 4th OF spot. When his BAbip isn't a bloated .350 those awful K% an BB% numbers are going to do serious damage.

Buxton has barely touched what he was advertised to be, but saying Cave has claimed CF is reminiscent of the "trade Buxton we have Zach Granite," push last season....

I believe he does have an option left.
