Taylor Motter - Designated for assignment

At least Motter got some playing time before he was kicked to the curb.  Mejia is likely long relief if the bullpen is depleted after Santana pitches.

Mejia will likely be on this way back to Rochester.  He did not do enough to keep him here this time.  May only be here because the FO expects to trade a starter and do not want to wait 10 days to recall.

Well, I was hoping for some exciting trade news at the start of the day, but at least this represents a transaction of sorts. Losing Motter doesn't exactly make me sad. Next.

The question will always be - why did we have Taylor Motter on the MLB roster at all?  What was the purpose?  What did it accomplish?  How do the statistical wizards explain this?

There were no other options. Pick your poison between Motter or Petit.

Mejia stays. Does this mean they think they can trade Lynn before Saturday? That would be a good reason. Keep Mejia so he's here to start Saturday, don;t send him down to AAA where you have to wait 10 days to bring him back up to start.

I'm guessing they are trying to deal a pitcher or three....so keeping him make sense.

OTOH, they could just call up Romero or Gonsalves, and have an actual bench....

Mejia would probably be available in emergency relief now, and Addison Reed is almost ready to return, so that's my guess at the next transaction.

If they demoted Mejia now, about all they could do is call up Moya, Curtiss, or Duffey for a couple days, but the pen isn't too taxed at the moment anyway. (Busenitz and Astudillo are still ineligible for recall due to the 10 day rule themselves.)

I would take Petit +0.3 WAR vs -0.3 WAR (Motter), also 3080BA vs 147.  0.99 OPS vs 0.32OPS.  no contest.

I guess. They both have less than 30 ABs so the stats don't really indicate much. I'm surprised you're advocating a 33 year playing...

If a guy's name reminds you of applesauce, it's hard to imagine him being good at baseball.

It could be worse. It reminded one of our TV guys (Smalley?) of the Camp Granada song - "Hello Motter, hello father..."

My guess is Levine or Falvey heard it and started the DFA paperwork right then and there.

I'm surprised there was no announcement about the broadcast crew being shuffled around at the same time.

Kevin Andrew Saucier was a Major League Baseball pitcher from 1978 to 1982 for the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers. Nicknamed "Hot Sauce", Saucier, was an energetic pitcher who would often display his emotions while on the mound.

I am when Taylor Motter is the other choice.
