Let us see how everyone who is being snarky does, when they're outside when the on field temps are hitting something like 110 degrees.

Really????

I guess that's the definition of a not very good team -- no hitting when you get pitching, no pitching when you get hitting.

Oh, the Cubs were 11 for 22 w/RISP.

I played softball for two hours, on Memorial Day this year and it was almost 100 degrees.

Baseball was played for its first 75 or so years, entirely during the day, in the summer. These dudes are pro athletes, I can’t understand losing that many players due to heat illness.

With theTigers having already lost today, this makes the division as a whole 69 games under .500.

Okay, Hildenberger puts 9 guys on base while getting one out. WHY WHY WHY did the manager allow that to happen?

And the outfield? Maybe we needed to add Nick Gordon to play the infield so Adrianza or Escobar could be the fifth outfielder. Morrison out there, as well as the new guy IN CENTER of all places. If we needed an outfielder that bad, why not Granite. And if we need a catcher than bad, why do we still have Wilson.

Good luck to Felix Jorge for finding another organization - he can only hope!

When Belisle becomes the throwing hero of the game, we know something must be wrong!

And baseball was played for hundreds of years at minimal effort.

The increases in velocity by pitchers are just one example of the fundamental change in how sports are played.

Are you implying that prior to recent years, the players never ran at full speed or swung at full strength or threw as hard as they could?

If you were on that field I think you would understand that happening. The weather was totally brutal.

Speaking with the wife last night and complaining about 17 frustrating years following the Twins, she asked why they are so consistently non-competitive. I thought about all the reasons, tried to connect the one thing then and now that's stayed the same. It didn't take long to come up with.

It's the Pohlad's, and quite possibly the schlmiels they hire for the FO, and most obvious to those of us who dwell in their market--the fans--there is seldom if any attempt to match up the dollars to draw free agent interest from even one, let alone two or three, real major leaguers. Legitimate guys, guys who can turn it around. I'm thinking of Verlander, but then, even for the money, why would he come here. Were I Verlander, checking out Major League line-ups, I'd opt for Houston, too.

Nonsense. Plus, players today are usually in much better physical condition than the players of old. At least judging by body physique. Also, conditioning practices have improved immensely. Think about how many places, like St. Louis, used to have artificial turf. This isn’t the first time it’s been hot on June 30

Also, I don't think anyone is arguing that it isn't hot as all hell out there, but the fact is thats no excuse for our awful play. Plenty of other teams don't forget how to play baseball when its hot outside.

I’m not arguing that it was anything other than brutal. However, I don’t understand the loss of 3 players. Maybe the catcher I can understand. But Eddie and max too? This weather is far from an epic unusual occurrence in late June.

Not for nothing, but I did play a 4 1/2 round today with air temps in the 90s ;)

From the National Weather Service, as part of the excessive heat warning issued in Chicago today.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS...IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN

POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES. KNOW THE SIGNS AND

SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT

AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF

WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND

HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS

IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS.

The telecast yesterday showed a thermometer registering 108 F on the field. Add to that the humidity and I'm sure the heat index on the field was approaching 120 F. This IS an epic unusual occurrence at any time of the year. The term brutal probably understates the conditions.

If you still are unable to understand then I'm sorry, I guess you never will.
