Just because it's a game thread...what kind of people are we that live in a state where a guy can be:

Monday: Coaching girls golf in Sunny Park Rapids and sweating it out at 83 degrees

and

Tuesday: Coaching next to the Big Ice Cube in Warroad where a brisk wind out of the east makes it feel like 40 degrees

Some would say that we're stupid.  Some would say that we're hardy.

Since it's a Game Thread, my response?

Yes.

Yes.

My response is "wussy ancestors" that could have gone over the mountains, enjoyed the wealth in gold and left when things went South, decades later.

For me, the more appropriate question is am I more annoyed by how long it takes Molitor to come up with his lineups, or that it takes so long to come up with lineups that he does?  I mean, Morrison leading off?  Grossman?

Agreed.  Was thinking the same when he finally posted the lineups.  Takes a long time to come up with crazy.

Because I'm keeping track: 9th game off of first base duty for Mauer, 6 weeks into the season. Game 32.

For those of you giving Mauer bonus points for his defense, subtract roughly 1/3.

By the way, reports are in that the Martinez ball just landed.

Do we have confirmation on the ground?  I'm skeptical.

The ump just went out and said something to Martinez and grabbed his glove; that counts as a mound visit, right?

Yes, but I think they have some cheat code that grants them unlimited mound visits.

I like when pitchers have to bat, as both leagues use to do. Makes it much more "chess-like" and not just a big bat coming in.

Yes - pitchers are the pawns. All you can do is sacrifice them.

NL baseball is still stupid. Nothing like bailing out a pitcher because he gets to face the equivalent of a JV baseball player with the bases juiced.

Not only that, their pitchers hit home runs! Not fair, I tell you.

EDIT: (Uh, just saw that it's a different Martinez batting third. I plead distractions at work.)

Due to the change, in they don't have to bat or lay down a bunt, when needed.

Radio guys did it twice and they're supposedly paying attention.  I think you're good to go.  :)

A lot (or at least several) teams lately have been trying it to get power hitters out of a funk and to stop worrying about driving in all those runs and hitting the ball a mile.  The latest examples I can think of off the top of my head are Rizzo and Harper.

Harper got moved to lead off because teams were back to giving him the Chicago Cubs treatment. Just kept walking him every time he came up. So Nats decide to move him to lead off to get a free baserunner every couple of innings. Rizzo comp is dead on.

I thought it was strange that they were letting one guy bat twice in the lineup :jump:

I might question the big bat part. Have you seen the Twins' DHs this decade?
