What Happens to Hughes and Sanchez?

Sanchez was pulled off the bus to get the word. I figured it wouldn't take long. Lynn was dolled up in white uniform for photos in the cages. Japan wants Vargas, 3 mill is what I heard.

Vargas in Japan makes sense. He can crush 50 HRs a year there and try his luck at the MLB in the next year or 3.

That leaves Hughes fighting for a spot in the bullpen or being sent to Rochester (no other team will pick up his contract). He could retire too.

This is incorrect. Hughes can't be sent to Rochester without his consent, regardless of whether anyone would claim him on waivers. The choices for the Twins will be roster him, DL him, convince him to go to AAA, convince him to retire, or release him.

Pulled off the bus? Oh wow ... I know it’s a business and that’s how it goes, but that’s a harsh way to get bad news.

well, the Twins have to pick that contract up for this year and the next (Thanks TR)  They cannot DFA him, because even if he passes waivers, he has enough seniority to refuse assignment and become a FA with the Twins paying every single cent they owe him.

They are not going to do that.  Mop up pitchers in the pen have some value

better than makin the trip and being told while your away

I guess there’s a silver lining in everything ... even if a bit tarnished.

Geez, that sounds more violent than normal for the Twins. I hope they at least rolled to a stop first.

Japan or maybe Korea, I could see Vargas becoming another version of Eric Thames!

Agree.  We have options...the Angels have issues.  What do you do when the guy that you hung your franchise on isn't all that he was advertised to be?  Glad we avoided that train wreck.

to be clear, you have decided Ohtani is bad based on a couple spring training outings?

He's allowed to do that if he wants. After all, many Twins fans thought Park would be a dinger machine after his first couple of weeks in spring training.

I'm guessing that Pujols is whom gocgo was referencing. The Angels owe him $27M for this season. $28 M next year. $29M the year after that. $30 M the year after that. And $10M for a personal services contract after that. And the man barely made it through 2017. And some people around here complain about Mauer's contract?

Actually, I was referring to both.  Granted, Trout covers a lot of issues, but you have huge money invested in a guy that isn't producing anywhere near to what you are paying him for.  I'm sure they thought they sort of covered that with the Ohtani signing and got a frontline pitcher besides.  Now they are faced with the reality that Ohtani isn't ready to hit in the bigs (I've heard him referred to as a high school hitter which I think is overkill) and it's questionable whether he's ready to pitch in the bigs.  So, do you send him down to AAA?  What if he can't perform there (because he is getting hit around by AAA hitters)?  I guess my point is that if they have potentially two guys in their lineup that they basically have to play that really don't deserve to play.  If your hope is that Ohtani become a major league hitter, you have to let him hit.  Meanwhile, your paying Pujols a lot of money to hit.  Tough to sit him.  Scioscia is a great manager, but I don't envy him.

Ohtani is one issue...actually, two issues.  I think he is struggling with both his pitching and his hitting, but I think the pitching can be corrected.  What I've read is that the hitting isn't going to be corrected easily and you don't want to try to correct it in the Majors.  So, do you send him down to work on hitting and give up a pitcher?  Doesn't make sense.  The plan was to DH him on day's when he doesn't pitch, but he has "trouble with the curve" and is struggling with inside fastballs.  Right now, he's practically an automatic out and the pitchers and scouts know it....and then there is the Pujols issue.

I would use Ohtani as a pitcher only.....but that's just me. He will eventually be good, imo, but we'll see.

Absolutely agree, but that's just us!  Obviously, that wasn't his expectation and I doubt that it was their hope.  I guess the question for the Angels is how long of a leash you give a two way player when one of his skills isn't at the level that it has to be?  In other words, what if he could hit, but they discovered that his pitching wasn't at a MLB level or vice versa?  It really puts an organization in a bit of a pickle and that's part of why I think the Angels have issues.
