Has Twins going 4/48 with Cobb and 3/21 with Nicasio. I would be happy with that.

Very weird to see words "the Twins could be in the mix" under the names of Arrieta and Darvish. Let's hope they are.

 

Cobb wouldn't be my first choice, but I probably wouldn't hate it. Nicasio would be fine.

That's about 26 Million and I'm spending it. 

 

I'm giving Minor the chance to compete for a rotation spot. If it doesn't work out he can always return to the pen. I've seen Pomeranz, Peacock and others return to the rotation and produce extremely well... I believe it can happen again... all it takes is opportunity and this possibility makes Minor my Number 1 Free Agent Target. 

 

All of our young arms have options so they can serve as insurance/depth.

I'm also taking a flyer on that Miles Mikolas for 5 Million. With Numbers like that... I'm taking a chance. Win some Lose Some... Roll the Dice. I have no idea what the guy can do... Just rolling the dice because I'm hopeful that he is a miracle.

As much as I want the Twins to pull the trigger some day on a high priced pitcher, not sure I want them to go after Darvish, and definitely not Arreita who has fallen off a cliff.

 

Cobb would be a great signing, been advocating trading for him for years now.

 

I’d still look to trade some offensive pieces for the “true” front of the rotation type. But:

 

Santana

Berrios

Cobb

May/Gibson etc

Cobb makes sense. I still want them to make a trade for a starter (Gausman, Cole, Odorizzi? (is he fixable or does he just suck now?), Archer, DeGrom etc).

Interesting that MLBTR has the Twins as possible suitors for pretty much every pitcher in the top 50 list. Seems like a prediction for an active free agency period for Falvine

I do not want to see the Twins go for the high bucks - Arrieta and Darvish.  Some pitchers progress through their thirties and even forties - Spahn and Ryan - but most do not.  Sign for upside not a downward slide.

Cobb/Nicasio would get a B grade for an offseason. Controlling risk management is fairly strong vs going after Tanaka/Arrieta/Darvish but the upside is pretty limited. If the Twins plan on going anywhere in the playoffs then they need to pull off a big trade or get lucky with a pitching prospect significantly exceeding expectations.

But really I couldn't complain with the dollars spent although this seems like the safe route that the Ryan RO would have taken.

No chance they're signing Arietta or Darvish. But, I'm OK with that because they shouldn't.
