Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 These discussions just make me more and more depressed.
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 This betting site (predictit.org) still has Kavanaugh as better than even-money to be confirmed, but at the moment I visited the page, those odds appeared to be dropping by 9 cents (not yet reflected in the graph?).
ashbury Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 A nice (if lengthy) exposition on just how weasely the judge was in his testimony to the Senate: How We Know Kavanaugh is Lying
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 A nice (if lengthy) exposition on just how weasely the judge was in his testimony to the Senate: How We Know Kavanaugh is LyingHeck of a read. How many democrats were prosecutors? This article was exactly the impression I had when listening to the hearing. Nicely done by the author.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 That's an exceptional article.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 That article does a hell of a job of breaking down how he's obviously lying about his drinking in high school and college.

For Trump and his minions (the republican majority of the US Congress), only care about winning and putting a yes judge, like Kavanaugh, on the bench. And their minions, (the diehard Trump supporters), will keep their blinders on to reality (and with the exception of the uber-wealthy who support Trump for obvious reasons, those minions will be the people hurt the most, OVERALL, by Trump and the Republican agenda).
Doomtints Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 The GOP is throwing around a really big nutsaq now that they have Trump + a full on propaganda network on their side. These are some really sad times.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Author Posted October 2, 2018 Kavanaugh FBI report won't be public. Might as well just say they don't care what he did and vote him in now.
jimmer Verified Member Posted October 2, 2018 Posted October 2, 2018 Kavanaugh FBI report won't be public. Might as well just say they don't care what he did and vote him in now.thought the Republicans already said that.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted October 3, 2018 Author Posted October 3, 2018 thought the Republicans already said that.I guess some already did.... You give this man a robe and let him do whatever he damn well pleases!
LaBombo Verified Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Kavanaugh FBI report won't be public. Might as well just say they don't care what he did and vote him in now. Not that it will make one iota of difference to the regulars at this point, but the decision not to release it is bipartisan, at least according to CNN reporter/stick figure Elizabeth Landers' summary of Feinstein's remarks. If it's any consolation... at the very least, selected bits almost certainly WILL be made public via more "leaks", probably some from each party and exclusively the portions which they deem favorable to their cause.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 The report will almost certainly be leaked in one form or another, especially if the entire senate is given a copy.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 So apparently Flake gave a “throw the bums out” speech in New Hampshire, which as people may know, is regarded as a key presidential primary state. There’s really no other reason for him to be speaking there, except that he’s campaigning for president. First of all, what voters is he courting? He has no chance to be president in even the wildest scenario. Then, if he votes Yes to confirm Kavanaugh later this week, then what the hell did he even give this N.H. speech for? So I really think he’s giving this speech to steel himself to vote No and incur the wrath of McConnell, Graham and them. But maybe he votes yes, as these people never cease to amaze us in their thoughtlessness, either. Also, Democrats still need at least a couple more No votes from the R side, even if Flake votes no.

PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 If all the Dems hold the line, they only need one more in addition to Flake.
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Well, if Flake is looking to make a name.....this would be the time. Lob that grenade.
Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted October 3, 2018 Posted October 3, 2018 Well, if Flake is looking to make a name.....this would be the time. Lob that grenade.I so hope this happens if only because one of the small highlights of the past two years has been watching 5% of the GOP thwart the other 95%.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 A friend of mine was telling me that Collins and Flake are like abusive boyfriends. They keep saying the right things and you keep hoping for them to change but at the end of the day, they don't change. I think I'll actually donate money to whoever challenges Collins in two years.
Badsmerf Verified Member Posted October 4, 2018 Author Posted October 4, 2018 Collins will have a tough re-election. I don't think she survives voting with Trump so often. In other news, Bart.. I mean Brett Kavanaugh is the victim now. Say hello to your next supreme court justice... Following right along the path of Clarence Thomas.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2018 Posted October 4, 2018 I gotta say, I'm impressed with McDonnell's ability to push things that the vast majority of Americans really don't want. His seat is secure but hopefully the left can take back Congress soon.
gunnarthor Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Well, looks like he'll get on the Supreme Court. Bummer.
PseudoSABR Verified Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 Well, looks like he'll get on the Supreme Court. Bummer.Flake and Collins are still weighing their final vote, I think that they haven't verbally committed to him, when it would be easy to do that after this procedural vote is still significant. But I am not hopeful.
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 It's been both fascinating and discouraging to watch all these people from all walks of Kavanaugh's life coming out against him.

But I am not hopeful.Weighing their final vote? As in ... what will the party give them to go along with it?
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 And so it begins ... Flake to vote 'yes' ... so I think that leaves room for Collins to vote 'no' ...
TheLeviathan Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2018 Posted October 5, 2018 A lot of political capital was spent here and possibly was galvanizing to the right. I hope this doesn't turn out as a terrible political miscalculation.

But the Dem energy is huge and Kavanaugh turned off a lot of independents as well. So, we'll see ...
