TwinsCD Verified Member Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 Bullpen question: We need to acquire another SP. Period. Even with some talented kids getting close. There is a convincing argument to acquire a DH bat, who can hopefully fill in somewhere. The Twins have some BP arms like Rogers, Hildenberger, Busentiz and maybe Duffey and Pressly. Curtiss is close. Bard and Reed may be close. With a tiny bit of luck, Chargois and Jay will be ready soon, and Burdi by mid season maybe. There are a couple other interesting guys and a SP or two who could help.So how big do you go in the off season for BP help? What are we thinking as far as Trevor May is concerned if he can come back at full strength? Starter or Pen? I think he's better off in the pen. I advocated a couple of years ago that he could be the middle guy in a 3-man rotation similar to what the Royals did in 2014 and 15 with their pen. As it is now, the Twins are going to need to find a closer unless they think that's Belisle's job long-term. I think you and I both know that's not terribly appetizing, even though Belisle has been decent since inheriting the role. Perhaps May could someday be a closer? Could Gee be a closer? Now, I'm saying this not knowing any contract situations and I'm not looking while the game is going on. But of the arms that we've seen throughout the season, this is who I would like to see in the pen next year: Belisle (if he's signed thru 18)Hildenberger (potential 7th inning guy in a 7-8-9 Royalsesque rotation)Rogers (I'm hot and cold with him but I think he'll get better)Busenitz (maybe he could be a closer sometime down the line with his heat?)May (depending on injury status) I'm not terribly interested in Pressly or Duffey coming back and there's not enough data on Curtiss or Moya as of yet.

May should be a starter for sure IMO. Danchat 1
spinowner Provisional Member Posted September 27, 2017 Posted September 27, 2017 I was thinking about 4 new big arms at a cost of 20 million plus Burdi and Chargois. This is not as far-fetched as some might think. I'm thinking there are a lot of free agent pitchers who'd rather watch the Twins' rising stars bat from the Twins' bullpen or dugout than from the pitcher's mound big dog and Riverbrian 2
