wavedog Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Do we practice bunting or just use real games for our practice. For a team that bunts so much we sure don't do it well
Hosken Bombo Disco Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Dick says Dozier left the game due to illness and is day-to-day....but aren't we all. h/t Vin Scully (or whoever)
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Not sure I see the logic behind bunting. Bunting with two strikes almost certainly is a Paul call. Adrianza is hitting almost .300.
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This is one reason why I am hoping for a new manager next year.
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This is one reason why I am hoping for a new manager next year.Yeah, bunting in that situation made sense... When Molitor was a rookie.
Blake Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I believe Bill James did a lot of numbers crunching and it turns out the sac bunt strategy isn't really all that effective when it comes to run probability. But, old school managers still believe in it. See here: http://www.billjamesonline.com/stats33/
Circus Boy Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Dick just said that Dozier left due to illness and is day to day. edit: I'm too slow apparently.I hear on TD that Dozier's not well and is day to day.
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I hear on TD that Dozier's not well and is day to day.Our CBU.

Aggies7 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I'm sure Taylor is thrilled to finally have a spotless outing
Craig Arko Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This mean Belisle closes today?
wavedog Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I hear on TD that Dozier's not well and is day to day. I really think he was just afraid he was going to be called on to bunt.
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I'm sure Taylor is thrilled to finally have a spotless outing Or at least a spotless inning. An inning doesn't become an outing until the next pitcher comes in, right?
glunn Community Moderator Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 I really think he was just afraid he was going to be called on to bunt.He is warming up.

yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Meet Twins closer, Matt Belisle. Angels and ministers of grace, defend us!
spinowner Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 Now it's raining at my house but not at the stadium.
IndianaTwin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Dozier had his 20th HR today on Aug. 6. On his way to 42 last year, he hit his 20th all the way back on ... Aug. 2. Let's see some more fun the next few weeks.
wavedog Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 That was a very nice play by Polanco
spinowner Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 Winnah! Now get the tarp rolled out pronto!
yarnivek1972 Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 Belisle might have the "unflapability" factor. But he has no track record as a consistent strike thrower. Not recently. His BB rate the last 4 years is almost 3. That's fine if you are getting 9 or 10 K per 9. Not so much at 6 or 7 K per 9.
PDX Twin Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 How about that. The Rangers "Twinned" the Twins.

Circus Boy Verified Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 This gets my vote as the funnest win of the year. I'd smoke a cigar, if I had a cigar and some matches.
spinowner Provisional Member Posted August 6, 2017 Author Posted August 6, 2017 Winnah! Now get the tarp rolled out pronto!Huh. We're getting hail and diagonal rain. Radar says downtown is in the path. Still no tarp.
Danchat Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2017 Posted August 6, 2017 When we signed Belisle I stated something along the lines of "he could end up closing", and now it's actually happening.
