Sickels top Twins prospect mid season update

Side note, it's amusing how quickly perceptions changed.  Notice the comments on how deep the system is. I think there's a lot of ceiling sitting in the lower minors (kind of like a few years ago when guys like Sano, Arcia, Kepler, and Rosario were our big prospects.

Paraphrasing his words:

This is not an updated list.  It is just a review of how the prospects in his preseason list are doing...  Nothing really much new

Stewart is starting to rock and roll. Brad Steil spoke highly of him the other day.

the system is deep in guys w/o high ceilings, people have been typing that for some time. Has that really changed? I don't see it.

The lower minors are filled with high upside guys. That's generally true of all systems and we have to wait a bit to see who breaks out but Lewis, Rooker, Enlow, Baddoo, Miranda, Javier, Kiriloff, Diaz are damn exciting and they have very high ceilings. Lewis and Kiriloff have already been ranked top 100 by some rankings and I'd bet most of those other guys get on those lists, too.

Yes

Me too on Low guys with High ceilings.  Lewis, Badoo, Rortveldt, Kiriloff, Palacios, Graterol, and Thorpe jump right to mind.

Edit to add: Diaz and Javier

I wouldn't get too excited until he improves his insanely low 5.0 K/9 rate.

I'll be excited for you.  I like life to be a rollercoaster of highs and lows, rather than a long, slightly uphill (both ways, through a blizzard) slog.  Sorry, that was a judgmental metaphor to use, and probably not how you see it at all!

He's still young, with a pedigree that rates up there with more recently drafted guys who have yet to enter the meat grinder.  Hope is a good thing.  Maybe the best thing...

I certainly don't have a problem with being optimistic. Maybe I shouldn't tell anyone not to get excited.

Me personally, I'm not going to get my hopes up for him. I'm high as hell on Gonsalves and others though.

Stewart has an ERA of 3.73, has more BB/9 than K/9 (that takes talent) and a WHIP over 1.500 in his 2nd trip through AA. News of his turning the corner are highly exaggerated.

I don't know if he'll be fine but the easy answer is we'll get to find out. Just keep throwing him out there and see what happens. I'm sure the coaches and the FO have things that they want him to work on. He's done a better job not walking people since he got back from the DL trip but I don't know if that's SSS or improved mechanics. Until his last start, his strike out numbers are still bad. But, like I said, let him keep pitching and work on it.

I think Palacios is legit.

He’s only 20, hitting .321/.362/.517 between Low-A and High-A, appears stronger and more physically mature than last year when he struggled in Low-A.

I don’t have a current report on his defense but pending that he’d have to be at least a B- with what I know right now. If he finishes strong in High-A, and depending on what the glove reports look like, he could certainly go higher.

I like that.

I'm also a little interested in the complete absence of Trey Cabbage from any of these reports. He was picked the round after Blankenhorn, but I understood that he was generally projected to go higher than Blankenhorn was before that draft. Where'd he go?

I guess I need to check out the adopt-a-prospect page, don't I?

Think he was a little hard on Rortvedt. Kid is very young and has really turned it on after a slow start.

I suppose it's true that most teams have talent and potential in the low levels. It's what they do when they start to hit high A that separates them. Still, I think drafts and signings have been pretty good the last couple of years.

Yeah, but then I'd need to update it and, well, I'm busy.

Maybe he's been sand bagging us this whole time.
