Just had to post this: Andrew Albers is making a spot start for the Mariners.

People on Braves Twitter are going ballistic. "He's making a major league start and they just got cash for him?!"

People are funny sometimes.

Might be true.

From reports I heard, there were concerns with his fielding as he has progressed. Probably something the Red Sox would have preferred to tighten up before promoting. He did have some good games offensively.

He was rushed, but it's not necessarily a bad thing. Kid has talent, the Red Sox have a clear need at his position, it is worth a shot. He may rise to the occasion.

1.074 OPS with fine defense so far for Devers.

Only 16 games, so we'll have to keep monitoring it, but so far doesn't looked rushed at all.

Not every prospect needs x amount of time in the minors.

Every single one is different.

I was just thinking about this back and forth. Devers has been awesome so far.

It is one reason I was not as offended with the Twins pushing the elite talent like Buxton, even though he flopped. You don't know.

And he won. 5 IP, 1 run (1st inning solo HR). Retired the last 8 batters he faced, but pulled at 77 pitches.

Since the start of July, here are Albers' AAA stats: 8 GS, 55.1 IP, 0.98 ERA, 6-0 W-L, 1.5 BB/9, 8.0 K/9.

(insert fabricated outrage that EVERY single ex-Twins player does better when they leave.... here)

I would only be impressed if he went more than 8 innings of shutout ball, like he did in his first couple of Twins starts.

Wow, watching the Padres polish off the Phillies, and San Diego put in a sub in left field that out Hrbeks Hrbek: Matt Szczur. If you allow names in hangman, that wins every time.

They pronounced it like Caesar.

Wonder if that's a name that got mangled at Ellis Island.

Curtis Granderson to the Dodgers.

The rich get richer.

Those little town blues pertain to LA as well, I guess ....

The way we mangle Caesar now, or how the Romans* pronounced it? :)

*(More like Kaiser, back in the day. Ask Chief to confirm.)

Aaron Judge broke an MLB record yesterday.... He's struck out in 36 consecutive games. I guess he's human after all... Since the AS break, his BA has dropped from .330 to .285, and he's only hit 7 HRs since the strikeout streak began.

Also, this may be the catch of the year by a little leaguer named Jack Regenye.

I saw that too! Kinda like Austin Jackson's catch over the Fenway wall a few weeks back.

Note that it was "junior league" (max age 15).  He's probably a little taller than most standard "little leaguers" (max age 12).  Still impressive, of course!

I was wondering what the difference was between Junior League WS and Little League WS. Thanks for clearing it up!

Watching the O's A's: was wondering about Tim Beckham and discovered he was #1 overall 2008. Rays gave him away much like the Twins gave away Hicks....tie-in, it was also the year the Twins drafted Hicks!

So, looking at 1st round 2008 the standout is Posey, 8th overall by SF and 3 WS championships later.

However, sorted by WAR, I found these results:

1. Posey 37

2. Lawrie 15

3. Lynn 14

4. Hosmer 13

5. Forsythe 12

6. Cole 11.7

7. Jason Castro 11.6

8. Chisenhall 9

...

15. Hicks 5

We got the catcher we needed, just not in the trade.

Here's to Castro, better than Beckham(who started the thread) at 5 WAR, Smoak, Cashner, Alonso, Crow, etc. He ain't chopped liver.

BTW, Castro was 10th overall that year by Houston, and Hicks was 14th.

Good night for pitching tonight - Rich Hill has no-hit the Pirates for 9 innings as of this writing, but the Dodgers haven't scored on their 8 hits. Hill is at 90-some pitches. Guessing he comes back out for the 10th.

Meanwhile Ervin and James Shields (?!) are in a pitchers' duel...

Wow, the Atlanta Braves are a joke.  They manage to take a lead in the 6th inning, so who do they bring in to protect the one run lead?  Jim f'n Johnson.  He pitches to four batters, doesn't record an out.

Atlanta is the worst.  (In case someone needed to tell you)

Coming into August, the Twins were 50-53, Braves were 48-56. Not exactly a whole lot of difference. At the point when the first announcement of Jaime Garcia between the Braves and Twins happened, the Braves had a better record, but they were 10 games farther out of a playoff spot.

Braves chose to bring up youth and put them in important spots for the rest of the year, immediately demoting Johnson from the closer role into no-leverage situations, and you see why.

I think Snitker and Molitor will both be seeking employment this offseason - at least it'd be surprising if they both weren't.

Remember when the Royals were red hot a month or so ago?

Now they're closing in on an MLB record in futility. They've been shut out for 4 consecutive games, and currently have a 43 inning scoreless streak going on. The 1968 Chicago Cubs and the 1906 Philadelphia Athletics hold the major league record at 48 innings.

The Mets, 14 games back of the WC, plan to start Matt Harvey Wednesday, on short rest.

Best medical staff in baseball.

Hard to imagine why Noah Syndergaard ever said a bad word about the handling of arms in that organization...

If you've been asleep at the wheel, you'd probably think the Astros still have a comfortable lead for best record in the AL. Well, Cleveland has been red hot lately, winning 14 games in a row. They're now 3 games back from Houston for the best record in the league.

Over this recent win streak, the team as a whole is hitting .324/.401/.582, and Jose Ramirez specifically is batting .431./453/1.039 with 7 HRs.

I don't feel like Cleveland's 16 (leading in Game 17) winning streak is getting much national media attention. Maybe it's because I no longer watch ESPN but it certainly feels like the 2002 A's streak or any streak of over 3 games by the Cubs, Yankees, or Red Sox got way more pub than this team.

I want to hate the Indians because they are in our division but I can't do it. They have been quite impressive the past two seasons.
