If the ball lands on the far side of the fence shouldn't it be a home run?

Yeah, OK, nice catch.  But Buxton makes it by hurdling the fence, keeps his feet, grabs a piece of gum from the bullpen, and jumps back into the field of play.

Yes and yes. :)

 

When MLB rules use the word "land" they mean that it touches the ground or other feature of the park. Rules like this would make no sense if landing in a fielder's glove counted:

"If a fly ball lands in the infield between home and first base, or home and third base, and then bounces to foul territory without touching a player or umpire and before passing first or third base, it is a foul ball"

 

(Guys also fall into dugouts and into the stands in foul territory every now and then.)

The Dodgers are making history this season... They've gone 43-7 (!!) over their last 50 games. Only the 1912 New York Giants have a streak that impressive.

I honestly hope they don't, just because I'm a big fan of Clayton Kershaw the player and the person, and Cody Bellinger is very possibly as good a person as Clayton. Easy guys to cheer for...

Mike Trout collected his 1000th hit yesterday.

He also turned 26

 

One player has 190 home runs and 150 stolen bases by his 26th birthday - Trout.

 

His OPS+ as he turns 26 is the highest of any RH hitter after their age 26 season (he's still technically in his age 25 season).

 

So many superlatives that can be tossed around, but it's just astounding that the greatest player in the game could also be the most underrated and underappreciated players in the game.

Trout is making a legitimate case for MVP even after missing 40 games earlier this season. He's on pace for his best season ever.... .343/.464/.710 and already accumulated 5.1 fWAR in 175+ less PA than Altuve and Judge. He's truly amazing.

Trout is making a legitimate case for MVP even after missing 40 games earlier this season. He's on pace for his best season ever.... .343/.464/.710 and already accumulated 5.1 fWAR in 175+ less PA than Altuve and Judge. He's truly amazing. 

 

It really is amazing how good he is. Like, all time great amazing.

Yeah, actually I agree. Not sure who I'll root for in the playoffs but it might be the Dodgers

No, no quite the opposite.

 

Delmon Young = 2nd greatest player of this generation!

 

I've mentally blocked all Delmon Young memories from my brain.... I didn't remember at all that he was actually pretty good for the Twins in 2010. Then the wheels completely fell off after that.

Cleveland's OF combined prior to the trade hit 37 HRs on the season. Bruce has 29 himself.

How are they still in so much financial trouble? Or is the owner really that cheap to take the $2.7 MM in cash savings over better prospects?
