So there's a runoff for Georgia's sixth (Ossoff seemingly falls just short of 50%*), not the best case scenario for Dems but still pretty bad for Trump.  This was Tom Price's district (he's a medical expert or something), and Newt Gingrich's (I'm not really sure how he's actually regarded; poorly?).

* At 48.6 (with 95% percent reporting), still better than Clinton , barely (reportedly 47ish).

Trump sounded a bit deranged in his robo-call for that election going  for the scare tactic -- be over run by illegal immigrants etc.

He of course made sure that he got some of the credit for causing a run-off.

Despite major outside money, FAKE media support and eleven Republican candidates, BIG "R" win with runoff in Georgia. Glad to be of help!

Missed opportunity I think. He can still win a runoff though. I'd be hesitant to assume all the votes going Republican will all go to Handel. Ossoff will get some of those votes by pure odds. And, will all the same voters show up to vote for her? I'd assume ossoff will hold on to his support, the bigger question is if Handel can accumulate double what she got the first time. I think that might be more difficult than ossoff picking up a couple percentages.

That is a tremendous turnout for an off-year first round special election. Given the fundamentals, I'd rate Handel the favorite, but Ossoff was close to getting 50% and I doubt the turnout will get that much higher in two months. The district's view of Trump might be totally different in 62 days.

So we are pissing off Canada and Mexico now.  "Trump's administration took its first steps to crack down on trade with Canada on Monday night when the Commerce Department announced a 20% tariff against Canadian softwood lumber. A war of words between Canadian and American leaders has followed.

Trump's decision to go after Canada first with tariffs was particularly surprising given his harsh criticism of Mexico on the campaign trail. Now Trump has upset Canada and suffered a trade defeat from Mexico."

Softwood lumber disputes between Canada and the US are like Rocky movies, I think this is like SLD V already.

Expecting Trump to do his homework on this I know would be asking too much, but what a complete waste of time of this is, not to mention the huge impact it will have on many families, as the fallout of these disutes always cost some their jobs. The same baseless claims, except now with increased ignorance to what is actually going on and extra greed involved.

I hope Justin does the same thing his father did and gives the old FU to Trump, then turns around and sells more wood to China. I hear straw houses are becoming more popular these days anyway.

He's also threatening some kind of action against Canada on Dairy.....like that's Wisconsin's problem, and not FL....

That mainly has to do with ultrafiltered milk, which is probably all US Dairy farmers care about and likely all that will get changed. Supply management pisses them off but it's not going to change no matter how much they jump up and down and stamp their feet. Unless it involves concessions to lumber of course.

He likes the tough bullying type who aren't afraid to get a little blood on their hands.  Does he have no awareness of Jackson's legacy and how he has been viewed in modern times?

"People don't realize, you know, the Civil War, if you think about it, why," the president said. "People don't ask that question, but why was there the Civil War?"

"Why could that one not have been worked out?" he continued.

Trump made the comments after going on a lengthy riff about President Andrew Jackson, a past president Trump believes was similar to himself in his populist views and bombastic campaigning.
"I mean, had Andrew Jackson been a little later, you wouldn't have had the Civil War," Trump said of the slave-owning president. "He was a very tough person, but he had a big heart. He was really angry that he saw what was happening with regard to the Civil War. He said 'there's no reason for this.”

Jackson, who was president from 1829 to 1837, died in 1845, 16 years before the outbreak of the Civil War.

Trumps Face the Nation interview was a disaster. Sounded like the reporter was talking to a preschooler with attention deficit disorder.

And, of course, Trump said Andrew Jackson was really angry about the civil war. Trump said that Andrew Jackson actually said there's no reason for the civil war'

Then, apparently, a 5th grader told him slave owner andrew jackson died 16 years before the civil war. Trump said he got the info from his pal Frederick Douglass who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more. :-)

The fact that the country hasn't fallen apart gives me a lot of faith into democracy(the people) actually.
Trump's power (as much as he hates it) is limited.

How the hell does a grown up say something that stupid?  We couldn't work it out?  Jackson, a slave owner, as the problem solver?  The only way Jackson solves the civil war is to make slavery legal through out the land.  Is that what Trump wanted?

I think he actually got the information from his good friend Pavarotti who he was face timing last week.

So Andrew Jackson had a really big heart. That's news to me (and probably anyone who has read more than a single paragraph about the legacy of Andrew Jackson).

well,he considers himself a modern day Jackson, so of course jackson had a really big heart. The biggest heart. Jackson was probably the least racist person in his time too, like trump is.

He probably loved the gays too....

When he was with the the Italian Prime Minister recently he said Pavarotti is a great friend of mine.  I should give him the benefit of the doubt and that he probably meant it in past tense, since the singer died ten years ago.  The more cynical side of me thinks he was just pulling names out of his &^*& and had no idea his "great friend" had long stopped singing.
