The order appears to run afoul of U.S. laws preventing discrimination based on religious beliefs. In an interview with David Brody of the Christian Broadcasting Network, Trump admitted he wanted to give priority to Christian refugees.

David Brody: "The refugee program that—or the refugee changes you’re looking to make, as it relates to persecuted Christians, do you see them as kind of a priority here?"

 

President Donald Trump: "Yes."

President Donald Trump: "They’ve been horribly treated. Do you know, if you were a Christian in Syria, it was impossible, very, very—at least very, very tough to get into the United States? If you were a Muslim, you could come in, but if you were a Christian, it was almost impossible. And the reason that was so unfair is that the—everybody was persecuted, in all fairness, but they were chopping off the heads of everybody, but more so the Christians. And I thought it was very, very unfair. So, we are going to help them."

Trump later walked back those comments, saying in a statement Sunday night that his immigration ban was not about religion. But one of Trump’s top advisers said the president explicitly ordered a Muslim ban.

 

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani ® said in an interview on Saturday that President Trump had previously asked him about legally implementing a "Muslim ban."

 

But Giuliani then disputed the notion that the president's sweeping executive order barring refugees and people from seven predominantly Muslim nations amounts to a ban on Muslims.

 

"I’ll tell you the whole history of it: When he first announced it, he said ‘Muslim ban,'" Giuliani said on Fox News.

 

"He called me up, he said, ‘Put a commission together, show me the right way to do it legally.’"

I have read a few articles that say that the facts do not really back this up, and Trump has not offered any proof.  I should probably give Trump the benefit of the doubt and assume the articles I read were fake  news.  

 

I am still annoyed he is treating his SCT pic like it is the finale of the Apprentice -- bringing two candidates to DC to build suspense, waiting until prime time etc... I wonder if he will release the two candidates into some sort of bio dome with a bunch of traps and have the last one breathing be his pick.

So, I had way too much time on my hands as I was getting my brain free from baseball research, and I reviewed some of the executive orders. Seriously, what in the actual hell?! Orders to de-fund agencies that never received funding in the first place. Orders to cut off representation to organizations that the United States has not participated in for years. CIA and DOD both saying that the order to re-institute torture was never once run by them for verbage or even approval/support. This is like the 8th grade student council president going rogue and writing a new set of rules for the council without consulting the student council adviser to find out proper wording and government structure.

Scalia died almost a year ago.  I know this is 20-20 hindsight, and they probably figured it was not as important because they thought Hilary would win, but I really wish they would have done more to force the issue of Obama appointing someone.  He had 11 months in office after Scalia died.  

 

I know McConnell was refusing to do anything, but it seems like that it was accepted a little too easily.  Again, probably because they thought it would not matter because Hilary would appoint someone, but did not exactly work out well.

One of my favorites was the wording of the order that "removed" the US from the TPP...which Congress had not approved yet. Political grand standing at its finest, and the country was never officially even IN the TPP.

Could be wrong, but I swear I read they get about 4 million a year or so in donations online.

 

4 million a week would be 200 million a year in online donations which seems kind of high to me.

Justices should be approved by supermajority.  It would enforce moderation among other things.

Or just let the people vote on SCOTUS, logistically it can be difficult, but not if you set term limits and have safeguards in place if someone retires or dies "early"
