Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 21, 2021 Posted July 21, 2021 There seems to be an ad or two that stretch the site horizontally on mobile that makes it unreadable. Or something in a post.

Or something in a post. Yeah, I started noticing that. If it keeps up, I'm going to address the problem, I haven't had the time yet with all the deadline stuff bouncing around and planning/updating on the fly.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 16, 2021 Posted August 16, 2021 Last couple days an ad has stretched the site wider than my phone's screen.... No idea which one. And it is intermittent.

I thought I had it resolved yesterday and it came right back, still trying to figure out how to prevent it. Mike Sixel 1
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted September 25, 2021 Posted September 25, 2021 @Brock Beauchamp just got this ad ... was at the bottom of a forum thread page ... a sound ad ... and no way to click it off ... grrr ... went away when I clicked 'go to topic listing'. Photo doesn't show it but was for an Amazon visa card, I think. Brock Beauchamp 1

TD does offer a subscription to those who want it … check this out here. You will see that ad free is in two of the choices VivaBomboRivera! 1

Please have a like. Unfortunately, I also missed, "Caretaking is subscribing to the site..." Misunderstood that term to mean that it was just a supplementary form of income to the ads. One or the other is an improvement. Subscriptions and no ads for all would be the ideal state of affairs, given the corruption in online advertising. However, that is a call for the people in charge of this sites books.

Without uniform user data privacy laws in major jurisdictions it's a devil of a choice to make. There is no going back to the days of internet advertising without scripts, trackers and cookies (how many people remember hit counts?). Now that I understand that "caretaking" = subscribing as an alternative to ads, I'm inclined to subscribe. See you at the ball park! Brock Beauchamp 1
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted April 21, 2022 Posted April 21, 2022 All day yesterday there was at least one ad that stretched the site horizontally on my mobile, making the site unusable.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 Lots of ads stretching out the width lately. Been really bad. Squirrel 1
Squirrel Community Moderator Posted August 3, 2022 Posted August 3, 2022 I concur. Even with gold caretaker status, I’m still seeing lots of ads, until/unless I refresh the screen I am on, then they go away and ‘back to normal’
Richie the Rally Goat Community Moderator Posted September 14, 2022 Posted September 14, 2022 Ads lately have been popping up faster than my phone/browser can handle. It glitched 7 times in the time it took me to write this post
SF Twins Fan Verified Member Posted September 17, 2022 Posted September 17, 2022 I know this comment doesn’t belong in this forum but my god have ads absolutely ruined this website. There are so many pop ups and and videos that play every time you scroll down. I have to exit some new ad 10 times just trying to read an article. I will get hollered at too, but I couldn't agree more. One of the hardest sites to read that I go on. Brock Beauchamp Site Manager Posted September 22, 2022 Author Posted September 22, 2022 Super cool that so many are HAPPY to deprive this site and its creators of their sole revenue source. Anybody who brings up specifics about ad blockers is getting warning points. Using a tech workaround to take away 100% of the revenue that literally dozens of people use to keep this site operational is ******, especially because WE OFFER AN AD-FREE VERSION. I'm so ****ing sick of freeloaders, especially ones who boast about how awesome they are for doing it. cHawk 1
whosafraidofluigirussolo Verified Member Posted December 13, 2022 Posted December 13, 2022 I'm not sure whether to call this ad a pop-up or maybe an "interstitial" - it's an ad for Brex, something credit-card-related. It "pops up" while an article is loaded, but fills the entire screen so it interrupts reading altogether, and takes a bit of time to do so. I just read a page and a half of comments on a single article and in the time it took me to do so, this ad took over the screen six or seven times. Absolutely get that ad revenue keeps the site going, but this rendered it basically unreadable today.

If anyone sees this happen (full screen ads), screen shot and PM me the screenshot. I have interstitial ads disabled because they’re so annoying; users should never see them.
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted January 31, 2023 Posted January 31, 2023 For some time now, when I go to a thread, it expands horizontally on my phone. I'm assuming an ad is too wide? Pretty much every time I open a thread. Android, chrome.

whosafraidofluigirussolo Verified Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 This morning I've had the issue where a page constantly shifts up and down as new ads (above the part I was reading) load at different sizes. I used to get this frequently on mobile (Safari/iOS) and rarely or never on desktop (Firefox or Chrome.) Then the issue went away, and today it's back. This time I'm seeing it on desktop.
Twinsgypsy Verified Member Posted February 13, 2024 Posted February 13, 2024 yes, a lot more ads these days
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted May 31, 2024 Posted May 31, 2024 Giant pop ups on my phone not allowing me to use the site without closing the ad
Mike Sixel Old-Timey Member Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 Pop up ads blocking the site again on my phone...
